Unless you’ve had your head seriously buried in the sand the last week you’ll know that a possible recession has loomed its ugly head. Arg, like living in London isn’t enough of a financial struggle as it is! Of course, this isn’t great news for the hospitality industry as people tighten the old purse strings and decide to go all budget (Primark, anyone?). Clubs and bars may notice a bit of a dip in profits over the next few months.
However, it’s not all doom and gloom. So house prices may be plummeting and petrol prices rising (hurrah! I don’t own a house or a car, get me to the pub!), but one of my favourite Soho party holes Zebrano at the Establishment has come up with an interesting – if a little risky – way of helping to ease the strain on the pockets of those who need it most... Now I sound like a charity advert!
Invitation to Treat launches tonight, in collaboration with the launch of a brand new tapas menu. The popular bar will remove the prices from all the tapas menus every Wednesday. When you’ve happily stuffed your face, no calculated bill will appear on your table. Oh no, instead YOU decide how much you pay. Yes, really. It’s all very Gordon Ramsay’s F Word!

All you’ll get is an empty tip tray so you decide how much you leave – whether it be £100 or just £1 – whatever you think it’s worth. Now, I’m hoping that people won’t be cheats or mean-spirited and just leave a quid when it’s clearly worth more, but maybe just before payday it will be a little too tempting!
I’ll be heading down there tonight to check out what the deal is – can they really trust us Londoners to be honest? Hmm...
At least Zebrano at the Establishment is doing something to ease our financial woes... Bring on the tapas!
