DJs Battle it Out

I kinda like the idea of being a DJ. Controlling the mood of the crowd with a scratch of a record (as you can tell, I know little about the reality of being a DJ!). Still, it’s a LITTLE harder than it looks. OK, it’s pretty tough to make it in clubland – especially to be recognised by your peers as being any good.
That’s why I’m so excited about the DMC UK DJ Championships (did you manage to make it past all those letters?) – this massive event will be recognising raw DJing talent in the forum of a good, old-fashioned head-to-head battle! It promises to be off the scale as past and present UK champions DJ Skully, DJ Asian Hawk, JFB and DJ Switch face off to win this year’s title. Joining them are Pandamonium, Loop Skywalker, Jeppa, Furious …

G-A-Y Waves Goodbye

This year I’ve written more blogs about clubs closing that, I swear, if I utter the words ‘end of an era’ again I’ll choke on my own tongue. Still, it IS the end of an era (ahem) for G-A-Y as one of the best known and loved club nights departs The Astoria.
Saturday 26th July will see gay and straight guys and gals alike shedding a few tears as the most camp of nights says its final goodbyes. G-A-Y is famed for pulling in huge headline acts – everyone from Kylie (and little sis Dannii) Girls Aloud and the Sugababes to Amy Winehouse and, well, Chesney Hawkes, have graced the Astoria …

Who is John's Mr Hollywood A-Gay?

London can breathe easy as our favourite Guy About Town John Gough returns to London after a luxurious holiday in Monaco - tanned and ready to go. In true John style he's done us proud this week, mixing it up at various upmarket London establishments, bumping into a host of A-listers and even going to lunch - again - with his mystery man Mr Hollywood A-Gay... Any luck guessing who it is yet? I'm smug to say I know, but all will be revealed soon. John, we missed you and we're glad you're back where you belong - London may be grey but it certainly kicks the ass of everywhere else (yes, even a yacht in Monaco!)...
I’m so happy to be …

Dr Earth’s Eco Clubbing

I have a confession to make. I’m not really into the whole recycling thing. Yeah, yeah, I know I SHOULD sort my rubbish out and I really do hope we can stop the awful onset of Global Warming (hello? Why is rain pouring out of the sky in the middle of July?), but I’ve always been a teensy tiny bit lazy.
And so I have decided to turn over a new leaf and go green. And lo and behold what is this I hear? A club night that’s totally 100% ecologically sound… What a COINCIDENCE (ok, not at all, but its good I’m making an effort, right?).
The aptly named Dr Earth launches the world’s first ecological nightclub tomorrow night called Surya, located in the heart of Kings Cross. …

Get Loaded on Festival Fever

Despite a recent spate of bad weather (the rain just continued to fall!), it hasn’t dampened anyone’s spirits for getting out there to enjoy the festivals (see Who Needs Glaston-muddy and Festival Season Hots Up). I went along on one of the coldest days of the O2 Wireless Festival on Sunday 6th July and I thought it was winter. Bless one of my girlfriends who determinedly didn’t throw a coat over her small summer dress, the rest of my mates opting for big waterproofs and heavy jumpers. Still, it rocked out big time and was worth a bit of discomfort. Of course, nice weather …
