Man (and woman’s) best friend. Our four-legged, furry pals have long been in the hearts of Londoners - the UK is famed for being a nation of animal lovers, after all. Whether you have a ‘look at me, I’m well ‘ard’ Rottweiler, a ‘I’m a caring, sharing type’ Golden Retriever or a ‘when will I be famous’ Chihuahua, chances are you can’t see a pooch without wanting to grab its chops and koochy koochy koo. Don’t do that, by the way, the pup will only be embarrassed in front of its dog mates!
However, it can be tough being a loving dog owner, as well we know. After all, there’s no swanning off down the pub with your mates on a whim - you’ve got to go home, feed the pooch before he rips up your favourite leather couch. So what’s a dog lover to do?
Well, contrary to popular belief, there are some London bars and pubs that will welcome our beloved four legged pals with open arms - just as long as you don’t go feeding them a pint. Academy in Holland Park, Betsey Trotwood in Farringdon, Black Lion in Hammersmith, The Crown in Islington, or Hampstead’s The Hill, you and your pup can pop in, have a drink and a bite to eat before heading on for a ‘walkies’ home.

However, if you’re more of a ‘cat’ person and dogs just aren’t your thing then I’m afraid that, for the time being at least, your kitty won’t be similarly catered for. But then, what self-respecting cat would be seen dead at some local boozer. We think not! It’s only the high life for our feline friends - they would only visit restaurants like Claridges or The Ivy or drink at members clubs like Shoreditch House and The Groucho Club. Alas, for the time being at least, these venues won’t let animals in. We guess it’s just a can of cat food and the telly for them tonight then.
But hey, in the meantime, take your dog out on the lash and they can lead you merrily home at the end of the night.
