The very week that divides foodies the country over has come around once again – National Vegetarian Week. Vegetarians love it – a full week of events and special menus based on greens, greens and more greens. Meat lovers? Well, they’re just a bit confused, really – how can you dedicate a whole week to… lettuce?
But if you are of the carnivorous breed, never fear. Vegetarian food isn’t just alfalfa sprouts and tofu anymore – just look at Saf, the new raw food restaurant in Shoreditch. Beetroot and cheese ravioli, mushroom croquettes, brownie sundaes – yum. There are loads of vegetarian restaurants across London and one of them should be able to convince you to trade lamb for lentils – one night of the week, anyway. Some of our favourites – at the moment, anyway - are Rootmaster (fine dining in a bus!) and Beatroot (healthy takeaway in Soho).

Anyway, National Vegetarian Week is full of fun veggie-friendly stuff, including special menus, a veggie barbecue, vegetarian workshops and even the chance to get your own meal cooked for you at Elephant Walk. Laziness and vegetarians don’t usually go together but hey – we’re always up for a decently cooked meal, especially if someone else is in the kitchen!
And if National Vegetarian Week really isn’t for you and you can’t stand the thought of a meat free week, don’t worry – National Snail Day is sliming its way around the corner…
Those alfalfa sprouts looking good yet?
veggies are for losers innit. give me a steak any day of the week!
Being healthy isn't for losers... you're probably an enormously obese American!
