London’s relationship with America is a bit of give and take, really. They take plenty of wannabe celebrities off our hands who cross the pond to ‘make it’ in LA, and they give us loads of glorious restaurants in return. Everyone’s a winner.
With the whole summer barbecue phase still going strong (whilst the weather holds out at least) and there’s no coincidence that another huge American barbecue holiday is just around the corner – Independence Day.
That’s right – the 4th of July, when America celebrates its independence from, er… us. Hmm, nevermind that aspect then – let’s just get on with the food.

Some of the capital’s most famous restaurants will be celebrating American-style, which seems to mean lots of beer and lots of meat. One of our favourite American chains in the capital is Bodeans (no, we don’t count McDonalds or KFC, thanks) and it’s obvious the rest of the capital agrees with us, as they’ve even got a brand new branch opening up in Tower Hill in just a few weeks. For 4th of July weekend their Family Feast for £17.76 – notice the price, history buffs?
Meanwhile, Black and Blue are great for another American favourite, steak, and this Independence Day they’re offering a special menu complete with vintage dry aged steak. The new Chicago Rib Shack is also getting in on the act along with Capital Radio and a £15 rib tasting menu, and Chelsea favourite Big Easy are adding a few more American dishes to their menu for the day annnnnd (drumroll please) a rib eating contest! What could possibly be more American than loads of Brits getting into the spirit (and barbecue sauce) and stuffing their face with ribs?
Independence never tasted so good.
