London Club News

Summer may be approaching but there are cold, dark times ahead for clubs, bars, restaurants, hell everyone. As businesses struggle to make ends meet I wish I had the spare cash to make the most of the crazy low priced deals on drinks, food and entry that many venues are now employing to keep people coming through the doors - I could save a mint!

Even well established businesses are having to up their game to stay ahead of the pack. For example, 24 London has always been massive on Soho’s clubbing scene with a door policy stricter than a 1950s headmaster and a pricey membership fee. However, it’s just undergone a refurbishment and is having a relaunch early in May to keep one step ahead of the fierce competition in Soho. I’m heading along to see just how snazzy the new look is so keep your eyes peeled for my new review soon.

I was shocked to discover that Burlington Club has closed down altogether and has been replaced by Baroque, the latest incarnation of the party hotspot on Burlington Street. Time will tell if it can replicate the success of Burlington Club’s boom years.

Even the big dance clubs aren’t safe. The House and Terrace has suffered since matter opened in such close proximity and managed to pull in the bigger club nights and promoters. It’s now had a relaunch to drum up new interest and is called T.H.A.T club – time will tell if their new look works.

It’s tough times out there, even for previously seemingly untouchable members clubs and upmarket clubs. Of course, clubbing stalwarts like Mahiki and Cuckoo Club are likely to ride the wave of the recession, but I’ve been shocked at some of the announcements so nowhere should consider themselves safe.

Good luck, guys!
