London Clubs Reopening

Ha! So our fair capital’s club scene isn’t quite dead and buried yet, eh? OK, OK, if you look at my past blogs (Central London Clubs Closing, Rex Cinema and Bar Closes, The End Closing Parties and Chinawhite Closing) you’ll note that I HAVE been a little doom and gloom of late. It’s just depressing editing a club section when all clubs seem to be doing these days is closing down. Yes the summer music festivals in London like Lovebox, SW4, Get Loaded, Wireless and Hyde Park Calling have been helping to quell my depression, but what about the long winter months? What are us clubbers to do then? Thank God then for these London clubs reopening.

I could make some cliched phoenix comments then but I won’t lower myself… But it really IS like they’re raising from the flames to be reincarnated into higher beings – um, sorry. And whether they are, in fact, higher beings is yet to be seen.

This week has seen the relaunch of two of the biggest losses on the London clubs scene, namely The End and AKA. I headed there for NYE and it was a bittersweet hello to 2009, knowing that they would soon shut their doors for good – and shut them they did at the end of January. However, last weekend (although the official launch party is this weekend) the reincarnation was complete and so The Den (see what they did there?) and Centro were born. Now let me be clear, the owners and promoters of The End and AKA are NOT involved in this new project and time will tell if they manage to pull in loyal fans of the iconic clubs. The club spaces don’t actually look much different and from their promotional material they’re definitely trying to hang on to the coattails of the hugely popular End and AKA. However, they’ll need to take some risks and push some boundaries to gain the respect of London’s savvy clubbers.

Tonight sees another of our big London clubs reopening namely T Bar. It closed down last year – something to do with licensing yada, yada, yada, you know the deal. This hugely iconic East London club always prided itself on free nights (something we’ve all needed this year – come on Euromillions!) and pulled in cutting edge DJs and huge club nights. It was a sad day when we saw it close. But lo and behold it is reopening tonight in, um, Houndsditch. OK, so that’s the less cool ‘ditch but whatever. It will be interesting to see how it pulls it off, the worry being that suits may wander in from the neighbouring City. Hopefully the lack of Crystal and cheesy chart tunes will deter them… We’ll see.

Not to be forgotten, the House and Terrace didn’t close but it morphed into THAT Club and iconic members club Burlington Club DID close and has been reborn as Baroque. Oh and don't forget Chinawhite is reopening later this year - don't know how happy I am about that, mind!

I’m happy to see London clubs reopening in a time when more venues are closing every day. Let’s hope London’s clubland is soon back to what it was in the boom years.

I think a trip to the Den is needed, was a shame to see the End close.

Baroque has a new House& Funky night every Thursday which will see some of London's best DJ's on the decks each week. And YES soo looking forward to the soon to be finished China White, my pennies are in the savings jar already lol

what about the arches in london bridge? big venue, big soundsystem, some of the ex end nights have gone there (chew the fat, buzzin fly) PLUS they've had some rockin new nights - from drum & bass to techno!
