OK, OK. Perhaps I’m jumping the gun a little here. It IS still April after all and there is a bit of rain forecast for the weekend. But damn, I’m loving this weather. Today I left my house – get ready for it – without a jacket. I know. I’m hardcore. I merrily skipped my way down the street, feeling the warm rays of the sun on my face and practically oozing Vitamin D. Ahh I love summer – a June baby, you see.
Now that I’m well and truly in the summer spirit (shut up, it IS summer now, well –ish) I’m starting to look forward to summer festivals like Lovebox, South West Four and Get Loaded in the Park with excitement akin to a kid in the run up to Christmas. Thoughts of cramming into hot sweaty clubs like Ministry of Sound and even my favourite matter just aren’t doing it for me. As I make a beeline for pubs with beer gardens and outdoor areas after work, it dawned on me that I ought to do the same with my choice of London clubs. Although I found I was brought back down to earth with a bump last night when the sun dipped below the horizon and the temperatures went with it. Blimey it still gets chilly in the evenings. Still, in the true English spirit of ‘Oh my God, sunshine, SUNSHINE! Quick, put on shorts and lay in the park until I resemble a lobster!’ I’m going to persevere with outdoor clubs in London.
London may pale in comparison next to Ibiza, but there are some clubs with great outdoor spaces so you can dance beneath the clear skies on a balmy summer’s day. Of course, the best known of these clubs with outdoor areas is Egg with its large garden space that’s now open. Although I’m not a massive fan of Egg usually, come the summer it is up there on my list thanks to its attractive garden.

There’s also the newly relaunched THAT Club (previously The House and Terrace) with an outdoor roof terrace for dancing beneath the stars – not that you can see any stars in London, mind. If you’re more West London than East London then the Roof Gardens have the added benefit of BBQs and flamingos – although the two are totally independent of each other, who wants flamingo for dinner?
Dex and Shoreditch House have two of the cooler outdoor areas in London, what with their open air rooftop Jacuzzi and swimming pool respectively. Taking a dip on the roof in this heat would be a welcomed evening pastime.
They’re my personal favourites but check out our recommended list for more ideas. With the summer festivals still some time off, it’s best we milk the nice weather while we can. Remember last summer? Exactly.
Happy hunting!
