For Auld Lang Thai

You know us, we don’t need an excuse to celebrate. Brand new month? Hooray! Sun’s finally out? Whoo hoo! New restaurant opening? Let us at it, we’re ready!
Needless to say we’re psyched for the upcoming Thai New Year celebrations going on at Thai restaurants across the capital. It might be a fair bit removed from Auld Lang Syne-ing at midnight your fellow drunken revellers, but hey – a party’s a party, right?
Regular festivities at Thai New Year (also known as Songkran) celebrations include throwing water (hoses and water guns optional), praying at monasteries and giving food to monks. There’s not exactly a surplus of Thai monks in London, but there are quite a few Thai restaurants and …

Stopping Traffic: YO! Sushi’s New Labels

Eating out all the time can get a bit gluttonous, really. It’s not our fault, honest… it just all looks so good! We do know, though, a few places that we can eat at that won’t turn us into sloth-like, overfed zombies by the time the check comes. First off we have the restaurants …

Talk about luck of the Irish – they’ve got great beer, plenty of green countryside and can dance without moving their entire upper bodies. Meanwhile, we’ve got to make do with… eh, nevermind, we in London don’t really have it that bad after all, really. However, it’s a bit of a trek to get to Ireland so if you want to sample what the Emerald Isle is famous for there’s always St Patrick’s Day.
This year foodies will be pleased to know that the Irish Food Market is coming to …

How Do You Make A Rhubarb Crumble?: March’s Seasonal Food

It’s the quintessential summer fruit in England, even though, err… it’s not technically a fruit. No seeds, you see. But its sweet-and-tart taste and tendency to send sparks flying when mixed with strawberries and apples means it’s lovely in desserts as well. Especially crumble. Mmm, crumble... Its bright red, almost fuchsia stalk and vivid green leaves are a nice reminder that spring is practically around the corner… we promise it’ll get here eventually!
Although good old rhubarb isn’t native to our shores (apparently it’s native to Asia), it grows remarkably well on British soil and starts to come out in early spring – or even earlier, hence the term ‘forced rhubarb’ (don’t worry, it doesn’t hurt!). What with the weather getting warmer and warmer …
