Till The Fat Lady Sings…

The opera may be classic, cultured and traditional, but it’s definitely not trendy. However, we’ve been noticing a pattern lately with London restaurants – opera singing. That’s right, whilst you eat you’ll be serenaded by opera singers (no guarantee how good they are, of course) and it’s a huge draw for the crowds. Although the saying is ‘It’s not over till the fat lady sings’ – referring, of course, to the over-the-top opera solo, usually by an, er, zaftig woman with some stereotypical long blonde braids and a horned Viking helmet – London restaurants are showing no signs of slowing down when it comes to the opera.

Eco Chic Eating

Is it our imagination, or do things seem to be getting greener around here?
First on the scene was last year’s landmark Acorn House, followed less than a year later by Water House. And, of course, we can’t forget upscale fish and chippery Tom’s Place, or Saf, the raw food hotspot in Shoreditch that just opened. Just the thought of all that physical exertion makes us hungry. So with that in mind, come St George’s Day we’ll be all about celebrating the best food England has to offer.
We plan on starting off with the Food, Glorious Food festival at Trafalgar Square – a …

For Auld Lang Thai

You know us, we don’t need an excuse to celebrate. Brand new month? Hooray! Sun’s finally out? Whoo hoo! New restaurant opening? Let us at it, we’re ready!
Needless to say we’re psyched for the upcoming Thai New Year celebrations going on at Thai restaurants across the capital. It might be a fair bit removed from Auld Lang Syne-ing at midnight your fellow drunken revellers, but hey – a party’s a party, right?
Regular festivities at Thai New Year (also known as Songkran) celebrations include throwing water (hoses and water guns optional), praying at monasteries and giving food to monks. There’s not exactly a surplus of Thai monks in London, but there are quite a few Thai restaurants and …
