Well, I have to say that it leaves a sick feeling in the bottom of my stomach that so many iconic clubs are closing down. What is it with 2008? The year that has seen closures of such clubs as Turnmills, The Key, The Cross, Cargo and The Marquee is now seeing the end of another huge club. The End. That's right, it’s the end of The End.
The End and AKA have long been mainstays on Holborn’s clubbing scene. In fact it’s been 13 long years since they first opened their doors to clubbers. However, 24th January 2009 heralds their closure as key people in the team have decided to accept an offer to sell the building and move on to pastures new.
Of course, as I’d expect, they’re not going to go quietly. The good news about all this is there are going to be some spectacular parties before The End and AKA say goodbye for good. September, October and November it will be business as usual and come 6th December – the thirteenth birthday of The End (unlucky for some it appears!) – the first of a series of farewell parties will be thrown. This will see one of my favourites, Sven Vath, headlining. The goodbyes will continue across several huge club nights, still to be announced (but I’m holding my breath with excitement!), with the grand closing weekend taking place on January 23rd and 24th.

I for one will be shedding a few tears for the end of The End and AKA. What will we do when this club closes? Well, there’s always the launch of Fabric’s new venture Matter...
The king is dead, long live the king!
