Well, well, well – now THAT’S a turn up for the old books, eh? Now, I don’t want to be accused of being a snob, it’s just that wallowing in a mud bath isn’t really my idea of good times. Neither are tents (I blame my parents and those ‘family bonding’ holidays with campsite showers filled with spiders the size of my face). So when we were bopping away to the radio in the ViewLondon office yesterday and heard reports that Glastonbury has thousands of tickets still for sale, we weren’t overly surprised. OK, so we’re kinda biased, but London festivals are where it’s all at this year. Oh yes.
I’m going to admit something to you now. This time last year I was a festival virgin. Yes, yes, I know – rubbish. So it was with Lovebox that my love affair with London festivals began. The crowd, the lights, the overly expensive but totally delicious food stalls (oh dear God I ate about 10 packs of burnt sugar!), and the cheap beer sold for high prices. I loved it. Admittedly it was sunny and there was no mud in sight and I could go home to a snugly flat at the end of the night, but it was just the introduction to festivals I needed – and Groove Armada rocked my world. Yup, I have my tickets booked for this year already!
That was it – I had the bug. Next up I headed all the way on the tube (yawn it took, like, 20 minutes!) to Clapham for the Metro Weekender. South West Four was incredible – everyone from Paul Van Dyke to Pete Tong rocked the tents and stages and the atmosphere was electric. And oh my God did I get sunburned – luckily, they were giving out free sunblock (who in England ever prepares for hot sunshine? I did have an umbrella in my bag!). I loved it so much I turned up the next day for Get Loaded, and once again spent the day melting in the heat of the sun whilst lying on the grass and listening to the music and hum of the festival around me. Blissful.
I’m not going to talk about the toilets. It took me a few weeks to push the sights and smells from my mind and I’m not ready to deal with it just yet - shudder.

This year, I’m doing the lot. Yup, I’m adding the legendary O2 Wireless Festival to my list. By the time I realised I was a festival chick in 2007, I was too late to experience acts like The Kaiser Chiefs, Faithless, Daft Punk and The White Stripes – gutted. Not this year though, oh no. This year I’ll be there, in true London festival style. And with other festivals including Hampton Court Festival, Hyde Park Calling, and Field Day I’ve never been so excited about the summer. Get your London Summer Music Festival Tickets quickly, before it’s too late and you’re stuck at home, watching the coverage on the telly.
I don’t mean to be smug, Glastonbury, but London totally has it on the festival front. Yes I’m biased, but frankly my dear, I just don’t give a damn.
Summer Festivals are the one thing that this country does well, mud and all! Unfortunatly you're right, London festivals do sound more interesting this year, especially since Jay-Z is headlining glastonbury, so like you i'm going to give London festivals a go this year, hope they have the right festival vibe and no fussy London rubbish!
there better be mud at these so called festivals in London, it isn't a proper festival without mud!
