Yousef's unique style of underground house has connected him to some of the biggest names in the business - think Carl Cox and Nic Fanciulli - and kept the DJ consistently on the decks in Ibiza. But it's his role as head honcho at Circus Recordings and club nights that has earned him respect in this capital. Before the final Circus Ldn party of 2012, Yousef takes us through his north London hangouts. And when he's not getting the crowds going at Egg, it seems he's pretty partial to London's veggie cafes and a brisk run in the woods. Hats off to you, Yousef!
Pubs and Bars
I'm not a huge drinker but there are a few places I have the odd Guinness in, and The Pineapple is one of them. It's a quaint little old man's boozer that's frequented by all walks of life and is very civilised. And it serves up a delicious Thai dinner, also.
I guess it's a bit showbiz but I have been known to enjoy its busy delights once in while. It really does have an amazing selection of everything, from food to wine, and is very comfortable, and you can stay there the entire day doing meetings and not feel you've been overly intrusive or intruded upon.
I'm deeply rooted in north London, so all my favourite spots tend to be near there. The Oxford does the best roast dinners the world has ever known!
This world-reknowned veggie and vegan cafe does the most delicious range of raw chocolate goodies and great tasting veggie food that gives you an energy boost, rather than the Sunday afternoon slump. A super chilled vibe too, which sounds ridiculous in Camden!
I'm biased, but Egg is really exceptional. It's going firmly against the grain, not in a anti-establishment way but in a way where people are encouraged to have fun and let go and be themselves rather than a venue to be seen at (which is so tiresome, in my opinion). For me, it's currently the best place to DJ in London and has the best, most up-for-it crowds, which is why I host my Circus event there each month.
Other things to do
Going for a long run on Hampstead Heath after 9am is magical to me. I trained to do the London Marathon on there and I know it incredibly well. Even in the snow I wouldnt miss a run. For me, and I'm serious when I say this, Hampstead Heath is probably my favourite place in the world!
Yousef welcomes Laurent Garnier to Circus Ldn this Friday 30th November for his last LBS show at Egg. For more info visit egglondon.net .
