Celebrate the best films made by females at the Birds Eye View Film Festival, a ten day affair filled with screenings of top films as well as a host of workshops and events. Starting on International Women’s Day, the 2011 festival is guaranteed to showcase some of the year’s greatest works of cinema.
Film screenings
Head to the film festival to see UK premieres of international features, including the London premiere of Susanne Bier's Oscar nominated In A Better World. There’ll also be films from countries from around the world, including like Egypt, Germany, Canada and Kenya.
Special events
From parties to special screenings, the Birds Eye View Film Festival is awash in all sorts of events. As this year is the centenary of International Women's Day, the festival is taking the opportunity to celebrate a century of women in cinema. The Sound and Silents strand features a number of early silent films accompanied by live music, such as the 1928 classic The Wind set to a live piano score by composer Lola Perrin.
Bloody Women
The 2011 Birds Eye View Film Festival also features a special focus on women's contributions to the horror genre, including a screening of horror shorts in association with the Film 4 FrightFest at the ICA Cinema Other highlights of the festival include the Music Loves Video event with Kate Nash and Miranda Sawyer, which features the very best in musical and film fusions.
Workshops and classes
The 2011 London festival also has workshops and classes for emerging women filmmakers to give both the creative inspiration and technical expertise to make films. As well as the workshops, there's the chance to meet and chat with influential filmmakers at a series of panel debates.
Documentaries and shorts
Other films being screened during the festival include documentaries from around the world, as well as the stylish Fashion Loves Film night which explores the relationship between art and commerce in the fashion industry. Mothers of young children can take advantage of the Bring a Baby screenings, while party animals can enjoy a night of live music and revelry at the Festival Party, hosted by Little White Lies.
Opening and closing night galas
A night of international cinema awaits film fans at the Birds Eye View Film Festival opening night gala, with highlights including a screening of the 1955 Hansel and Gretel by animation pioneer Lotte Reiniger, as well as films from Australia, Sweden, India, the UK and France. The closing night gala includes the London premiere of American hit Tiny Furniture, as well as the festival awards ceremony.
