BAFTA and the Imperial War Museum

See the best films from Ireland at the Irish film festival just in time for St Patricks Day. As part of London’s St Patricks Day celebrations, a film festival celebrating the best cinema that the Emerald Isle has to offer is taking place at two London cinemas. Illustrating Irish history and the Irish experience in London, the films will no doubt be a great way to take part in the festivities.

Irish films for free
The film festival will be taking place at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts in Piccadilly and the Imperial War Museum on Sunday 15th March. At BAFTA, there’ll be a special celebration of one of Ireland's foremost actors and producers Gabriel Byrne with a screening of two of his films, Into the West and Stories from Home. There'll also be a free screening of the moving documentary Tailwind at the Imperial War Museum, which tells the story of the Second World War veterans who came to Northern Ireland to prepare for frontline action and the Battle of the Atlantic.

The best in Irish cinema
Starting at 2.15pm on Sunday 15th March, BAFTA will be screening two Gabriel Byrne movies as part of the Irish film festival. The schedule includes Into the West, a spellbinding tale of two children wrongly accused of a crime, and their journey into the west on a magical horse. Stories from Home will also be available to see for free, which promises to be a revealing and intimate portrait of Gabriel Byrne both as an actor and a private man.

Irish culture in London
Even those who aren’t from Ireland will get a chance to experience Irish culture at the Irish film festival as the Irish films on show are available to see for free. By showcasing important events in Irish history such as Northern Ireland's experiences during the Second World War, the film festival will give Londoners a chance to take part in Irish culture and appreciate the contributions of our neighbouring nation.

St Patricks Day in London
London will be absolutely full to the brim with loads of events taking place all over the capital just for St Patricks Day. Watch the parade, listen to some great Irish bands and even discover the Irish cultural history of London is a guided walk. The Irish film festival takes place on Sunday 15th March 2009 at BAFTA and the Imperial War Museum. Admission is free.
