The 2009 Portobello Film Festival celebrates its 14th anniversary this year and that, of course, means that this year's festival is definitely going to be an event you won't want to miss.
Portobello Film Festival 2009
During its three week run the 2009 Portobello Film Festival will screen hundereds of brand new, low and no budget short films and international, rock and roll, and arthouse movies.
Art at Portobello
Past years events have featured an impressive selection of urban art including films of top contemporary street artists at work and two exhibitions at Westbourne Studios and The Muse on Portobello Road. Amongst the artists that are displayed work as part of the Portobello Film Festival last year were Snug, the creator of the Kilburn Tube mural who has worked with Banksy in the past, and Joe Rush who makes sculptures from scrap metal and is responsible for the Trash City field at Glastonbury Festival. Check back soon for information on this year's events.
Not just films
Other past festival features have included a skateboarding and graffiti jam event, a VJ convention coordinated by Red Dog and starring Hexstatic, and more than a few parties throughout Portobello and the surrounding areas including the X Box Skate Park and a movieoke session. For 2009 there's scheduled to be plenty of top artists taking part. Last year Dutch VJ/AV artist Arno Coenen went state of the art with digital sounds. Last year's fest included plenty of comedy and live music events throughout the festival, too.
