The 2009 Portobello Film Festival includes free events and screenings at various venues across Notting Hill and Portobello in one of the biggest independent film festivals in Europe. Film fans can enjoy work from up and coming talent alongside established directors, in addition to unique, special events.
Fourteen years of filmThe Portobello Film Festival enters its 14th year in 2009, over which time it has established itself as one of London’s premier film festivals. As usual all screenings and events are free, taking place at bars, studios, parks, galleries and cinemas in Notting Hill and Portobello. Join audiences for a unique film and cinema experience in London.
Cutting edge cinemaA highlight feature of the film festival is the submission of work from new directors. Audiences at the festival can expect to see cutting edge cinema from some of the country’s freshest new filmmakers and all submitted films will be entered into the UK’s biggest independent film competition.
More than movies at PortobelloThe festival includes a selection of unique events in addition to the screening of new films. Highlights for 2008 included a complete history of the the Alternative Miss World, a panel discussion about the neglected art of screenwriting, live AV and DJ events, sculpture displays, theatre evenings, poetry slams and live comedy. For 2009 you can expect loads more cool events that will have you hanging out in Notting Hill the whole month through.
The Beat Generation at PortobelloFor 2009 one of the festival's special events includes film screenings of rare films by beat writers Jack Kerouac, William Borroughs and Allen Ginsberg. Even if you're not au fait with beat poetry, London cinema fans shouldn't miss the chance to catch these rare screenings in Notting Hill.
