The ViewLondon Review
With a late licence and varied beats, 333 never fails to disappoint unpretentious dancers.
The Venue
With a venue name based on the address, 333 is unquestionably easy to find – it sits right on Old Street, positioned just off Hoxton Square, and takes about five minutes to walk from Old Street tube or ten minutes from Liverpool Street station.
Once you arrive, don’t be put off by the exterior – arguably a scrub up on the outside decor wouldn’t go amiss, and it’s likely you’ll be standing (possibly un-sheltered) in a queue in a small-gated area, but the bouncers are friendly and it’s usually worth the wait.
Perhaps more could be done on the decor front inside the venue, too, but it’s actually a refreshing change to see somewhere so raw in an area so full of try-hard conversions. After all, that’s not what this area is about.
The Atmosphere
Once inside, you’ll be able to dance to an eclectic mix of music in one of the few places in the area licensed to open beyond 3am. The laid back, unpretentious attitude of 333 is very much reflected in the type of carefree clubbers who visit the venue on a regular basis. Upon stepping on the dancefloor, you’re immediately hit by the happy vibe given off by the regulars. You’re definitely not going to be judged on the way that you dance here.
The Music
Think of every sub-genre within dance and 333 will probably have a night that showcases it. Music can vary from breakbeat, drum and bass and dub step to electro, trance and psychedelic tunes and listings vary weekly. 333 is not a place to come if you enjoy commercial dance tunes.
The Drink
In keeping with the general feel of the area, drinks here are not cheap. And don’t expect to get cocktails or anything too specialist – this place is very much a spirit and mixer venue and there’s a pretty basic range of drinks on offer.
The Last Word
333 isn’t a place for those who want to hang out to the sounds of light music in a pretty venue, but is an unpretentious and refreshingly raw place to dance to an eclectic range of dance beats.
