02/01/08 My wife and I arrived at 20:00 along with several other parties but the staff seemed surprised and the band were still setting up. We were sat immediately and the food came out within minutes. There are two veg starters and we ordered both. One is a goat's cheese dish - quite nice, the other is a disaster. We wanted a bottle of wine but had to ask twice (A very forgetful waitress) and in the end it arrived around 20 minutes from the time we ordered.

We finished our meal at 21:30 expecting the band to start however, they didn't start until 21:50 although the percussionist who arrived at the same time as us and continued with a sound check through our dinner wasn't the blame. The table layout is a mess and it just doesn't work. Our chairs were constantly kicked by every passerby, the gentleman seated in front of us almost knocked down our drinks 3 or 4 times just by moving his chair. Dishes served to the table in front of us had to be done so through our table (not charming if that is what you are thinking!).

Perhaps just bad luck seating for us? I did have a look around and it seemed everyone was crammed in and in just as uncomfortable. The band: each musician was good however as a group it's best to give them a miss. Each were playing on top of each other and it was all a bit wrong. They took a 30 minute break in between the set. Our bill came to just under £100. We had 2 starters, 2 mains, 1 bottle of wine, 2 glasses of wine, 3 bottles of water, 1 coffee and 1 desert and entry into the club (£24 total).

Hardly worth it to be honest and we will not be coming back. There are far better options in town and for less of a hit on the wallet. On that note, I wouldn't mind the tab if it had been worth it. A bit of space, more logical seating so that you don't infact find yourself dining with your neighbor or kicked by restroom goers and wait staff!

We didn't like the music which was overpriced at £12/head, the service was poor (our waiter didn't understand our order until the 3rd attempt, our plates were left with us all night and we weren't offered more drinks or dessert) and the 12.5% is added before the bill arrives which is awkward to argue off - no one wants to do that on a night out.

£60/head no where near worth it

they need to decorate the place too, social club-esque...

I heard of 606 club in Chicago and decided to try it out when back to London. I went on Saturday with a friend and they let us in even though we were not members and had not reserved a table. The guy at the door, James, was very nice and asked us to wait at the bar till a table was empty, even though we were not eating. The drinks price was reasonable and after about 45mins we got a table. We indeed decided to eat and the food was delicious, I had the salmon and my friend had the pumpkin soup. It did take a while to get served though. You need 3 dinner to apply for a membership, we already have one and are going again this thursday.

After reading the rave reviews about 606 Jazz Clubs wild boar sausages I decided to give them a go on my visit. I was sorely disappointed when they arrived at my table, poorly presented and burnt. For a venue listed as one of the Top 10 Jazz Clubs in London, this was the beginning of a major let down.

The waiters did not look happy to serve customers and after forking out over £35.00 for a starter, an orange juice, a glass of rose and a dodgy plate of Bangers n Mash, I felt conned out of the 12 percent service charged enforced on my bill. The live music at 606 Jazz Club was good but it did not help lift the damp mood set by the staff and dodgy bangers, wild or not.

I visited 606 Club and found it cosy, well lit and enchanting. The main course was good and served hot, but the highlight for me was the band, Dave Nelson and 1UP featuring Noel McCalla on vocals, and the deliciously yummy vanilla cheesecake with raspberry couli. Both of which sent me to higher planes.

I wish the 606 Club staff smiled more on the night but the entertainment and heavenly pud more than made up for it. I'll definitely be back!

The 606 Jazz Club is amazing! First time I went was alone, the manager was so friendly, and introduced me to several of the "regulars" in the members bar, who I have since become good friends with.

After going back there several times, and each time loving the live music, and the food (the boars sausages with mash is divine), I decided to become a member. The members bar is usually filled with the familiar faces of regulars and musicians, and the atmosphere is always warm and intimate.

I’ve since brought many friends to The 606 Jazz Club, and all were thoroughly impressed by the music, the atmosphere, and the food.

My favourite place in London! The 606 Jazz Club always makes you feel like part of the family; and the musicians that play there are out of this world!

People at the 606 Jazz Club really listen to the music rather than shouting over it and every new person I have brought down has been blown away by the high standard of musicianship and the great atmosphere and fabulous food.

Nobody does it better.

The 606 Jazz Club is a great club with good food in a relaxed atmosphere. It's no wonder so many musicians love to play at 606 Jazz Club.

The 606 Jazz Club is a great "proper" jazz club, authentic without trying to be, unlike most I've visited. Great music and at last a venue that keeps the chattering trendies out of the music area.

The 606 Jazz Club has a nice atmosphere and the food OK but the jazz is best. It beats most I've seen in the world including in New York, where jazz is really processed these days, trapping tourist types. Keep it up.

What a great club. The 606 Jazz Club is more intimate than Ronnie Scotts and just about as good as any jazz club I've been to home or abroad, even in New York - the supposed home of good jazz but mainly a tourist rip off.

The The 606 Jazz Club has good music and a special place for those chatterboxes away from the main music (why do some people go to a jazz club and talk? It beats me!)

Friendly, good foodm, what else can anyone say? I give The 606 Jazz Club top marks. Is that 1 or 5? Assuming 5 is tops here's my vote!

Visited London last June and was looking to find Hamish Stuart, the top guy who was Paul McCartney's guitarist and a founding member of funk and soul band AWB. Hamish actually plays at this cozy, brick-walled private music club, that also caters to the transient crowd.

We had just flown in from Boston and took a cat nap in our hotel near Harrods, before taking our first black cab ride through the streets of London to find The 606 Jazz Club, tucked away across from an industrial monolithic power plant.

We were on the list and were brought through a marquee door, down an iron staircase and into a couple of very intimate rooms. The band that night was Hamish's horn section, but alas, Hamish did not play that night.

We were there to entice all our senses and The 606 Jazz Club did not fail. Up front music, right there, and a chef who knows how not to use salt.

The 606 Jazz Club has a great vibe and cool music-loving people, who actually spent the better part of the next week trying to track down Hamish for us. They even send me an email every once in a while, so when Hamish shows up on their calendar, I can check mine.

I can say that one of these days I'll be back to The 606 Jazz Club. I wouldn't trip to London again without dropping in.

I've been a member at 606 Club for over 3 years. I find the jazz world class. The service is always friendly and efficient, even when very busy!

The food is well prepared and tasty. On the one hand some may find the charges a bit pricey but on the other, the 606 Club experience is an unforgettable one that is worth every penny.

10 out of 10!

I feel that I must contradict most strongly. Some of the other negative reviews regarding the quality of the food served at the 606 Club.

I have eaten at 606 Club on about 15 occasions and found the food to be of the highest quality each time, and the music is always top notch, as are all the staff there. Long may it reign.

What a great venue The 606 Jazz Club is. You are welcomed and made to feel special. The food is to die for and the entertainment is first class.

The 606 Jazz Club is ideal if you want to visit a place where you are not rushed, the table is yours for the night and the music is ideal. The tables are all situated around the stage so you get a great seat wherever you are sitting.

Go and experience for yourselves!

606 Club is truly authentic and is a great find.

A friend took me there for my birthday a few years ago and I've been going ever since.
The music at 606 Club is fantastic and staff are always really friendly. Had many good meals there too.
Not entirely sure if the last couple of people who reviewed went to the same place!!

The jazz at 606 Club is good. Everything else is shockingly bad. I thought times had changed and places like this served food, not slop.

Avoid 606 Club. Worst food I have experienced. Motorway service station food is more appealing. Good jazz but terrible seating. Cramped. And 10 quid for pasta that is the equivalent of a pot noodle.

The 606 Jazz Club is a fabulous place. I have been attending the club for many years with friends and family and it's retained its character and excellent service throughout. You enter the club through an unmarked archway and down through a gated entrance rather like the speakeasys of the 1920s, the club is cavernous and intimate with tiny candlelit tables and a seperate relaxed bar area. The food is unpretentious and very good with several vegetarian options for me! But it's the music that really brings you to the club. It's the only UK jazz club to specialise in purely British jazz musicians and makes this a vital element to a niche scene. The bands are always top quality as Steve Rubie (the long-time owner) is a jazz afficionado and hugely respected musician himself so he knows his stuff. The bar is normally full of some of the UKs most infamous jazz musicians who use the 606 Jazz Club as a meeting place and often sit in and jam on each others sets. The staff are friendly, the menu not too pricey and if you get yourself down to the club, you'll be entering into one of London's best kept secrets.

The 606 was mediocre as a whole and definitely does not deserve to be in the top 5 jazz bars in London. As a non-member I was "forced" to eat an over-priced standard meal and pay higher prices for alcohol.

Although payment for the music is optional, here is a piece of advice; you might not be welcome again if you don't pay the extra charge. Overall it was shame because the music is good but only for the exclusive clientelle.
