Hardcore gay venue Area stuns its clubbers with a great lighting rig, pumping music and a gorgeous, muscled crowd.

The Venue
Opened in Summer 2006, Area is one of the first purpose built gay venues to open in London for years. Located next to its sister venue, CRASH, on Albert Embankment, and alongside other Vauxhall gay village regulars Barcode and Factory, it’s a short walk from Vauxhall underground station. Inside, the venue evolves each night, with two vast dancefloors, six bars and plenty of chill out space - both indoors and outdoors. Using a state of the art, bang up to date lighting system helps to set Area apart from its competitors.

The Atmosphere
The revellers in the Vauxhall gay village have high expectations and equally high stamina – the clubbers on a Sunday night might have been dancing since Friday, with their muscles and chests on display and a drink in hand. The mostly gay crowd is slightly older than their Soho counterparts, and are usually accompanied by their straight female friends. The bar staff are as up for it as the punters, handling the six busy bars with efficiency, a smile and some flirty banter.

The Music
Running various nights throughout the weekend, including infamous after hours club Ultra and Madrid imports Space of Sound and Matinee, Area has a funky house and electro music policy, attracting legendary house DJs such as Lisa German, David Dunn, Mikey D and Phil Faversham. The excellent sound system ensures the sounds are pumping and all-evading, and guarantees your feet will be drawn to the dancefloor.

The Drink
Area is pretty well priced for a late night venue in Central London, with vodka and mixers from around a fiver. You might need to be forceful to get through the queues and get hold of one on busier nights, but the bar staff will greet you with a smile when you finally get to the front.

The Last Word
Area is part of the new breed of Vauxhall superclubs with amazing sound and light systems, top name DJs spinning great music and a hardcore up-for-it crowd. All the ingredients of a great night out!
