We went there last night had a great night!
The doorman and barstaff seemed nice! Will definatly go there again
Recently went there for a night out over the weekend and they appear to have a new "ARROGANT" head doorman who demanded I pay him outside to let me in. When asked if this was company policy or just for me he replied "Do you want to f"%king come in or not"!Happy to say I walked away with my party of 8 never to return. Shame as really loved this place. Oh well, their loss.
I love this place, best place in East London, always good music and bands , nice vibe and cool visuals......Open till really late too :)))
At first when I walked into this place I wasn't sure, we went with some friends on a Friday night after work and the place wasn't very busy and felt weird because the place is huge.
By eight o clock the place was packed and we really had a good time. We`left about 2am and I never write reviews but this is a really well run place with great service and a really funky vibe that so many bars lack in Shoreditch. Yummy mulled Cherry beer to.
The music was great Live bands and the dj's rocked. I shouldn't be writing this as the place is packed as it is ...Bartenders are hot too :)
Good Times and Norman Jay what else can I say...... Very good night. Not often you see a legend playing in commercial shoreditch.
This is one of the only venues in area that plays good quality music on a consistent basis.
Love the belgian beers and the atmosphere, will definetly be coming here again, and NO Essex brigade......Heaven :)))
Alot of the reviews about this place are totally wrong , I 've been here loads of times and this place is always a good night out. Not like the other pretentious places around East London. Nice mix of people and always a nice atmosphere when I go with friends.Definetly Check this place out!!!!
This place is great, started there off for dinner last Friday and the food was really good, we ordered a couple of their burgers which were amazing. Waitresses are really friendly and the korean girl that served us was very welcoming.
They sell nice cocktails and the dj's later on were great, so good that we left at 3am. Nice crowd and generally a great nice, you shoul check this place out, undereated by some of these reviews, one of my favourite spots in East London .
The best bar in Shoreditch by far. Went to go and see Jazzie B from Soul ii Soul last night. Amazing. Lovely crowd, great music and a lot of hot men! These reviews aren't right. I thought the staff were great , only place it doesn't take an hour to get served.!
absolutely horrific establishment. service is slower than a snail. the rip-off quotient is phenomenal! first time I went to the bar, I got doubles instead of singles for no reason other than the barman was obviously instructed to do that as standard. the second time I went to the bar for a pint I was presented with a 3/4 pint in a pint glass with the rest being 1/4 foam. when I asked for a top-up, some smart-ass come over to point at a random line on the glass and say it was the pint line, then went on to say "OK?!" and grin like a maniac and run away whilst doing so, not leaving me with a chance to protest. I've worked bars for 5 years and pulled thousands of pints, I can tell a full pint in my hand by weight and I know what good bar service is; neither of which is to be found here. Avoid like the plague. The only positive thing is that I also ordered some fries to go with my beer and I was worried a bit about being brought a huge portion of fries which I would finish just because it was in front of me and end up eating too much late at night. No danger of that, the portion was minuscule. Thanks Bar Music Hall for ruining my night completely. Look at the bright side, I was home and tucked up in bed by about 10; now THAT's the mark of a fun night out that you wish never ended!
The 2 star rating is for the "Lidl" style christmas meal m,yself and my colleagues paid £25 per head for. Obviously i dont expect much, but starters of "a" slightly crispy mushroom in a teaspoon of cheese and breadcrumbs, with 2 floopy leaves of lettuce, followed by a turkey dinner that has obviously just left an old peoples home before arriving in front of me. One colleague actually got up and left on being presented with her plate.
The service as always is verrrry slow. Surprising given we were the only people in this huge cavernous and atmosphere-less (with MAriah Carey's all i want for Christmas on repeat blaring away) - I'm afraid this place has really hit the bottom in terms of catering for parties. Ironically, and in defence, the burgers and chips being carried to other punters as we were leaving looked fairly decent.
If you enjoy lager - go elsewhere by the way. If you enjoy spirits, do seek a mortgage advisor first. I'm afraid i wont be returning, and left Bar Music Hall thinking "Mum went to Iceland"
We celebrated my bf's birthday here this Saturday and I loved it. Very warm staff, especially this Spanish girl, who was very friendly and helped me enthusiastically with my complicated b'day cake arrangements... We had a great time, good food, great beers, music was cool. Its a place where you can actually talk as the music gets louder gradually and still at a later hour you don't necessarily need to shout to be able to have a little chat while dancing. I will be coming here again I am sure!
Occasionally has good bands. Has some nice beers on tap but takes an impossibly long time to get served, even when they are not busy. The bar is way too big for the venue and as a result the bar staff don't (or won't) see you waiting to be served.
It's an OK place, but there are much better options available in the area.
Pretty horrible atmosphere. Bad music, expensive and full of chavs. like going out in Basingstoke.
bar music hall has recently got new management, a new soundsystem(kicking) and a load of new nights, it seems that they are focussing on live music more now, with gigs recently by late of the pier, foals, friendly fires and florence of the machine amongst others.
the door staff have always been friendly when i've been there, give the guys a break, the "air-lock" door system although a pain in the ass at times, is there to safeguard the licence as its pretty banging inside and the only way to stop this spilling out into the street and irritating local residents. this is explained on notices prominently displayed.
the smoking ban has caused the door staff no end of grief with loads of people wanting to go in and out throughout the night to smoke a fag. lighten up people they spend the whole evening opening and closing the doors to allow this, yet i've never seen them be anything other than courteous.
The food is good, its a simple menu. but the portions are good sized and tasty. average prices for the area, but shoreditch is a bit short on decent places to eat so i sometimes drop in for lunch.the toilets are so bright and white that i thought any moment a big american indian fellah was going to rip the sink off of the wall, throw it through a window and make his escape..
overall i think the place comes in for a bit of a bad press through an overly picky door policy in the past, they still arent going to allow in large groups of potentially rowdy blokes in, but as a mixed friendly vibe goes, i'd recommend the place..favourite night for me is filthy few (friday once a month) always good music and cutting edge bands. see them here before they blow up big (see above)
Very rude door staff, the guy on the door would keep you waiting and waiting for no reason (there are more people at the queue than inside the bar), even when you have a cigarette they keep you waiting to get back in. Very bad attitude, I certainly do not recommend it. Music was okay-ish but nothing worth the hassle.
Give this place a miss, rude door staff, really rude bar staff, the place is just a big room with very poor decoration. How can they charge people to get into that hole. Toilets were resonable if you could find one that locked. The icing on the cakes was been told i had to queue again to get back in, after going outside for a cigarette.
Worse place i've been to in a long time.
Actually a great place, as long as you dress the part. The burgers during the day are huge.
I've been here a few times now and have had the best nights, the music is always crowd-pleasing, fun and dancy, the people are friendly and jokes, a wide range of crazy dressers from new romantic/wave to electro/thrash looks. Read some of the comments on here where people had been turned away, I feel it's the kind of place you expect to have a dress code, but just relax dress-up abit and run with it. if you don't want to it's not your kind of place.
Bar Music Hall was dreadful. The door man is the most pretentious person I have ever come across. He told me that he decides who gets in on the basis of, Who's hot and who's not. I ask you. Totally unncessary, especially before 9pm in a practically empty bar. And it's just a bar for goodness sake, and an ordinary one at that. My birthday was only salvaged by going to the lovely bar below Shish around the corner.
Bar Music Hall is definitely one of the better places in Shoreditch due to the fact that it has less pretentious idiots there. Good music and a good crowd made Bar Music Hall a lot of fun.
Dress up is all I can say if you want to get in to Bar Music Hall on a Saturday night and have one of the best nights with some of the most friendly and outgoing people in London. If you don't dress up, you won't get in. Bar Music Hall is a Hoxton secret and they don't want chavs there. Plus, I I love the doorman!
Bar Music Hall was dreadful. I was told by the guy on the door that they let people in based on how hot they are. For goodness sake. There are plenty of other places in London to drink and have a good time without that sort of ridiculousness. Don't bother with Bar Music Hall.
I went to Bar Music Hall for the first time last Saturday to meet my boyfriend and friends. I tried to sort out a guest list, but with no luck. They said it was not possible as the list was closed, but if we turned up early it wouldn’t be a problem.
We arrived at half nine and I had to flirt my way past the he/she/it on door. When we got in I was surprised that Bar Music Hall wasn’t more packed. Even as the night went on it never got to a point where it felt like the greedy owners had packed people in.
Everyone was very friendly, and definitely real party people. Even though it was such a big place everyone I spoke to regulars and they were the must interesting bunch of people I have ever met.
We were surprised that the bar manager told us that we are not their type of guests as we have been living in Hoxton for five years. I have never been insulted like this. Anyway, we got in to Bar Music Hall finally and the place was half empty, the music was bad and the crowd was very mixes, so I have no idea how they could make a fuss about us.
I would not recommend Bar Music Hall to anyone who I know.
Don't bother going to Bar Music Hall unless you want to be exposed to a draconian door policy run by someone who wouldn't let anyone in unless they recognised them. Bar Music Hall was half empty. Avoid it.
I have been to Bar Music Hall many time, mostly during the week though. I live around the corner and often go there for the excellent beer and one of the absolute best consistent free Jazz night around.
That said, I have been turned away from Bar Music Hall before on Saturday nights for not dressing up enough which is a bit annoying considering the amount of times I have been there. But, being in the middle of Shoreditch it would be surprising if it wasn't a bit "too cool for school".
Top venue!
I arrived at Bar Music Hall to meet some of my friends for a birthday celebration so was upset to be told I couldn't come in by a thoroughly unpleasant and rude 'doorbunny'.
Living in Hoxton you often defend it against it's reputation of being poncy and pretentious, but unfortunately Bar Music Hall doorstaff lived up to the stereotype!
We went with friends to Bar Music Hall last Saturday and were turned away. They said after 9:00 the promoter chose who did and didn't get in. We arrived at 8:50 and even though a large group of friends were already inside Bar Music Hall, this made no difference to the door staff, so they had to leave and join us down the road.
We were turned away on Saturday from BBar Music Hall by a real life obnoxios Hoxton twat. It's people like him that give the area a bad name. Don't go to Bar Music Hall.
On the bright side of the Bar Music Hall the
door staff were not a real problem. There were lots of very drunk people who could not handle it. Bar Music Hall was very unpleasant.
Bar Music Hall has the rudest bouncer I have ever come across. I will never be going back there and I doubt that the 3 or 4 other groups of young professionals I watched get turned away for no reason, will either!
I was lucky and just walked pass Bar Music Hall last saturday night. The music was amazing so I popped in to suss it out, and the rest is history. What a night. Bar Music Hall is a great venue with cheap drinks and the staff were fantastic.
Long live Bar Music Hall.
Hey, whatever you think of Bar Music Hall from before you should check them out now. What a fantastic transformation and some pretty cute barmen too!
Bar Music Hall has a great DJ on Saturday night and real local crowd. Loos are still the brightest about!
Brilliant. Bar Music Hall is lively and friendly, with dancing on tables yet a sophisticated feel. Definitely recommend trying it.
