The ViewLondon Review
This decadent basement venue hosts some of London’s most notorious club nights, attracting dandies and peacocks from East London and beyond. The VenueLocated on Stoke Newington Road, Bardens Boudoir is a basement bar capable of accommodating 300 people for a range of alternative live music and DJ nights. The club makes the most of its subterranean domain with plenty of room for dancing and drinking, whilst providing leather sofas for lounging. A row of intimate booths against one wall are each decorated by a different local artist and, combined with other decorative effects, help give the club a decadent feel reflected in the nights held here.
The AtmosphereAlthough there is no formal dress code, the flamboyant visual style of Bardens Boudoir is more than matched by the crowds that flock to inhabit it. The location means that Hackney artists rub shoulders with the organic produce guzzlers of Stoke Newington and the Shoreditch trendies. The early evening friendly ambiance gives way to a full-on party atmosphere - often with snake charmers and fire jugglers enlivening proceedings - which is kept going until the late license runs out.
The MusicCutting edge is the linking factor for most of the music played; whether it’s the latest electro producer, DJ or a new indie fashion band. If it’s hot and hip it will most likely be hitting a night at Bardens Boudoir soon. A drawback for live music is that the stage is not notably elevated, meaning that a good view of the action is limited to those who have staked a place in the front couple of rows.
The DrinkThere are two separate bars at Bardens Boudoir, which help keep queuing to a minimum. They stock a reasonably extensive range of wines in addition to the usual suspects.
The Last WordBardens Boudoir is the venue of choice for those keen on going underground - both literally and figuratively.
