Painted with a large cow exposing its udders and neon writing announcing the Bountiful Cow, the entrance starts as it means to go on. This gastropub keeps quality to a high standard while maintaining a style all of its own.

The Venue
Tucked away on the back streets of Holborn, the Bountiful Cow has the feel of an antique American diner. With L-shaped booths lining one wall and a polished wooden bar curving around another, you can tell the designers worked hard to utilise the limited space this venue has. Fortunately, they succeeded and averted what could have become a claustrophobic experience making it somewhat cosier.

The Atmosphere
There is an air of stylish kitsch, with bovine themed decor everywhere you look. From the classic bar stools you can take in the cow and beef themed movie posters, and you get the impression this has been a labour of love rather than just another business venture. The music has a jazzy feel to it but is clearly for background purposes only; the overall ambience seems set towards conversation. This has extended itself to the staff who are friendlier and more approachable than your average bar workers.

The Food
Vegetarians be warned; this place makes no apologies – meat is on the menu and if you don’t like it don’t go. The standard is very high, and while this will not be the cheapest pub grub in town, you won’t feel hard done by at the end. Burgers, steaks and grills are the reason you’re here and the Bountiful Cow delivers on its promises. You may even find it raising the bar on the best burger you’ve ever had.

The Drink
Although there are some specialty ales next to your regular pub brands, there is little out of the ordinary at the Bountiful Cow. The wine list makes up for this slightly and your costs are not far above the average London price. You do get the impression that with so much focus on the food the attention to the drink has slipped somewhat.

The Last Word
This is an ideal place for a meeting, a date or a celebration. With great food and stylish decor, the Bountiful Cow really does exactly what it says on the tin.
