This Cask Marque-accredited pub seamlessly caters for a quirky, cool market of day-time dwellers and late-night ravers.

The Venue
On a corner of Camden High Street, The Camden Head is one of many pubs reeling in the flow of punters from all walks of life that the area attracts. From the outside it looks like your traditional boozer, with its black exterior, bold white lettering and pretty hanging baskets.

Inside, the pub has a busy appearance, which may make it seem smaller than it actually is. Red fairy lights scattered on the bar and window sills give The Camden Head a seedy feel. There are big battered leather chairs and sofas, and a vintage sewing machine and lampshade are also thrown into the mix. Comic book and kung fu posters are strewn across the walls too and miniature spirit bottles are stacked up behind the bar, presumably for aesthetic appeal alone. These often-random touches to the décor all add to the appeal of the pub. During the day, cult classic movies are played on the large TV screens, which give way to football fixtures by night. A pool table is also located to the rear of the bar.

The Atmosphere
Much is done at The Camden Head to create an animated atmosphere. Upbeat indie music is played right through to the evening, when things get a little bit louder. Comedy nights on a Monday and open mic nights on a Sunday are held in a separate function room located up the rickety, wooden stairs to the rear of the pub. This roster of live events adds to the fun-loving vibe of the pub, and bar staff are just as entertaining. This means that The Camden Head attracts quite a crowd throughout the week and draws in some lively and interesting characters.

The Food
The Camden Head serves up traditional pub fare with a twist, with menus lying around on cute wooden clipboards. Sandwiches cost around the £4 mark and come in fresh farmhouse bread. Adding to the individual vibe of the bar is the burger menu, which includes a wild boar and apple burger (£7) and a venison burger (£7), along with more traditional options. Comfort food comes in the form of pork Cumberland bangers and mash (£6.60) and chilli and cheese tortilla wraps (£6.80).

The Drink
A whole host of world beers, ciders and ales are on tap at The Camden Head, something that has helped the pub secure Cask Marque status. The usual suspects are at hand, like Fosters (£3.50) and Kronenbourg (£3.80), but for a similar price some exciting international lagers are on offer, like Hoegaarden, Amstel, Leffe Blonde and Sagres. The only ale on draught is Adnams (£3.50), which is joined by Strongbow (£3.60) and Aspels (£4.10) ciders.

A few wines are available at The Camden Head with glasses starting at £3.70 and bottles priced between £14 and £16. Although alcopops are out of bounds, a chalkboard boasts a wide range of shots to keep the party going. A pomegranate sambuca (£3) and a Cointreaubomb (£5.40) stand out in particular and they're in keeping with the overall feel of this party-centric pub.

The Last Word
The Camden Head is a cool pub that is slightly out-of-the-ordinary. Its line-up of live events, wide range of beers and spirits and party atmosphere guarantee a fun-filled night in Camden.
