The web site for this bar advertises 50 percent off 5-9 but we were charged full price and told this was last months offer and it was only on a Friday.... Feel like porky pies were being told....
carbon is a great venue i had a very nice night and the bar manager mark is very friendly he goes out of he way to make your night to remember..... Great staff, Great music Great atmosphere and a really nice crowd.
The bar staff are really nice very helpful especially one guy named Michael he looked after me and my group and made really nice drinks/cocktails
I love it. Great staff, Great music and atmosphere . I will be there tonight again ;)
We went there last night for our after work drinks and leaving do and we had such a great time. Mark the Bar manager was really helpful in organising it all and the staff were very friendly and courteous. The food was great and so was the music. We had great feedback from our teams. Thanks. We'll be back.
Slow, rude & not worth the money!
Went here few weeks back and had the worst night out I've had in London!! (been here for 5years)
I'm writing this post after I emailed the venue to give them a chance to reprieve themselves but after hearing nothing ( I wasn't surprised) I thought I would share how bad the night was!!
Arrived at 9:30 as our table was booked for 10, told to wait outside in the cold as we were not allowed in. Bizarre. Rude door staff who said we would be lucky if we got in on a Saturday as its for members only. Were all starting to feel very small now. Then told that the one guy in a group of 12 girls he would have to pay £15 to get in after 10! (we arrived at 9:30) got let in by the guest list girl who treated you anything but nice!
Got inside were promised a reserved table & ballons for the party. Nothing. Had to then brave talking to the guest list girl again to complain. 20mins later we were given an area. Again told we were lucky!
Bar service was very poor. They don't work on a first come first serve basis....girls first then a chat then serve the guys! Myself and lots of guys at the bar were pretty shocked by being blatantly ignored!!
Overall 1* out of 5 and that was for them finally giving us a table.
Avoid if you can.
Went there with friends tonight. After waiting at abusy bar for 20 minutes to get served i decided to to order double drinks the next time. Even this took 15 minutes. The final time i went was for one beer. Four staff behibd the bar and three people wanting served!!10 minutes later i stuck my hand in the air to get the attentionof the bar maid who had decided washing glasses was more important than serving. At this the fairly aggressive barman/manager told me to stop being rude and that They were "really busy". Drank my pint and left. Will never go back!
I went Carbon on Friday 12th Aug, and i have to say there has been a major improvement since i last visited a year ago!
Friendly welcome by the doormen
Service at the bar was good ! but staff need to smile more
Music was a great mix all night, chart, dance and loads of favourites.
Will visit again!
The exact same thing happened to my friend and I - we were in the queue before 11pm, made to wait and then asked to pay £15 each. What a joke!
DON'T Bother...! Got our names on the guest list and was informed that ladies are free before 11pm and £15 after. Got to Carbon bar at 10.45pm and there was a queue outside. Asked the bouncer if we had to queue even though names were on the guest list. Was told we MUST wait in the queue. There were only a few people in front of us, say about 8-9 and the club inside was practially empty so why they were making us wait is not clear. However by the time I got to the front of the queue it was 11.05 and I was asked to pay £15 even though I arrived before 11pm. The lady at the door was extremely rude and was not interested in anything and insisted that I had to pay £15 and that she did not make the rules! I arrived before 11pm and was made to wait until after 11pm to get into the club so that they could get my £15!
Went here for work Christmas drinks. Wouldn't recommend it unless you want to pay over the odds for drinks and service with a sneer!
Plenty of other places in the local area which offer better atmosphere, better prices and most certainly better staff.
I made an initial group booking here for 25 people plus canapes. I didn't receive confirmation of my food order for a whole week and had to chase it twice. I finally got a reply the day before and with over 24 hours notice adjusted to canapes for 19 people. I also rang them to confirm this was ok. On arrival, the party were asked to pay for 30 portions of canapes! The order had never been for 30 at any stage? Luckily my colleagues stood their ground (plus had copies of my e-mails) and only had to pay for the 19 portions. Meanwhile, there is a midweek drinks offer advertised on the website which was not honoured. 'we don't do that any more' advised the rude staff. They need to update their website as this is false advertising. Whilst the decor is nice and the food mainly off a good standard (apart from a wallpaper paste mushroom risotto) Carbon Bar is overpriced, poorly managed and the staff need to take a long hard look at their attitude.
Went last night as my firm hired out the upstairs bar.Nice bar,but the staff were appalling. The barmaid had to be the laziest most ignorant person I have ever known. Absolutely horrible manners and everything seemed such an effort. She even refused to serve cocktails. No cold beers, she forgot to put them in the fridge, although the bar was booked 2 weeks in advance with a requirement of cold beers. Great night ruined by someone who should not be working with the public. Wont return if I know she is still there.
I went here a couple months ago, we were on the guest list and not even asked for ID. I do feel that drinks are a little overpriced for the type of club, and a selection of their clientele. We did find the chains on the VIP area a little restrictive, and after a certain time was filled with people without table bookings. We went to the dance floor to enjoy ourselves, which was a little small and found that there were people always walking through. We also met the toilet attendant who sat on the side asking us to buy lollipops for £1 each, and that was about it. The music was very disappointing the DJ played only old skool RnB, and was pushing it when he played “Madonna – Holliday“at 2:30 am. Many of the songs were repeated 2-3 times, the type of thing I could put together at home. Overall the night was ok, considering we were part of a guest list party, and got free entry and only paid for one drink each. But if you are considering going here, for a proper night out you should save your money.
I was there yesterday (Saturday 3rd April - Easter Weekend), all I can say, what a dissappointment:
- was on the guestlist with 5 girls but had to wait in the queue for at least 40 mins. in the rain. no movement at all.
- Not enough securities guards
- poor security mesurments (no ID requests, let everybody in, no body search, I could have carried a knife or similar in my pockets)
- Dj repeats songs regularly as if he only had a certain amount of cds/records with him. When he finally plays good tunes, he cut most of them off so that audience couldn't even enjoy it. Around 2am he started playing only slow jams for at least 30 mins.
- people & staff were really agressive and rude (bumping into you, pushing, looking for trouble...even staff)
- I witnessed at least two fights, one with 10 men beating up one man on the floor, even my friend got shouted at by another girl that could have ended easily in another fight
- toilet cleaner begging me to give her £1 for 1 chewing gum (yes 1 not 1 pack) because apparently she doesn't get paid, only tip (terrible working conditions)
- there is not really a dancfloor area which makes it difficult to enjoy yourself because every minute somebody tries to come through and pushes you etc.
- not enough space for cloakroom, coats and bags are being put in black/clear bin liners (professionalism)
- broken glasses on the floor everywhere, nobody to clean it up, guests stepping on them and kicking them around
- the management team needs to re-think their business strategy and development
A disaster - NEVER EVER AGAIN - there are much better clubs in West End
We decided to have a leaving party for one of my work colleagues at Carbon - only because this venue is nearby the office. We booked a table in the VIP area from 6pm onwards and there must have been about 15-20 of us in total.
I have been here before a while back and found the prices extortionate and the attitude of the staff abysmal.
Things have not changed.
The drinks are still extortionate and is the only place I know that stopped serving pints after 9pm. When asked for an explanation, the staff just merely shrugged their shoulders and grunted that it was the bar's policy. More like larger margins on bottles and spirits.
We did enjoy the first couple of hours happily drinking away, contributing to Carbon's profit, up to the point when there was a shift change and the evening staff started. Later in the evening, from 9pm onwards, everytime a member of staff passed by, they had to tell us off about something trivial. For example, 'can't leave your coat/bag there', 'can't stand here', 'can't dance here', etc.
If I could get this place a 0 star rating, I would. Not recommended at all.
Went Carbon a few months back and it was brilliant, Music was great, bar prices not that bad, staff were alright, general population in there was a good mix. Much better then some of the reject bars/clubs in the area. I loved it, birthday next weekend and pretty sure I'll be doing it there.
I have to agree with earlier posts, the place is completely soulless, the staff fail to ignite any spark and appear to be there just to pour the drinks rather than bring any personality to the place.
Early doors the place is dreadful, too much open space and the chained off "VIP Area" is badly thought out and overly restrictive if you have a large group, especially if you spread to the tables outside of that area. Everyone becomes separated and this could have been better thought out.
Rude staff as mentioned, over-priced drinks when you consider this place is just round the corner from the tourist trap of Marble Arch. The place could be pumping every day, but they appear to be aiming for an up market clientele that appear to be going elsewhere.
Shame, as it's the closest bar to my office!
Nice atmosphere, really nice music but the "cloackroom woman" rips you off!!!
I think £4.00 to leave the bag down because considered heavier than the other one is "a bit" too much!!
Saturday at Carbon was amazing. My friends and i had such a great night.
On another note last Sat Mo George ( Gus eastenders ) was djing and man he rocked the joint. Ill def be going back this weekend.
I thought saturdays at carbon were great but i went last Friday and was surprised.
Friday was quiet at the start but come midnight but become like a zoo. So many people in there it was great.
Good service esp from the bartenders and im def going again. Thanks carbon for a nice night
been in carbon 2 weeks ago on a saturday night, i had a very good time...
loved the music, (r&b, dance and commercial), staff was busy but try to be friendly anyway.
to get a table it's a bite expensive!! (250 min spend) i don't even think about the vip!
the bounce's was busy, and very slow to get us in...i recommend to anyone, will go back there for sure
I was at Carbon last saturday, and was amazed by the total experience.
Not only was the music great but i found the atmosphere good also.
Negative point waiting abit too long in the queue outside.
Went to carbon for my birthday with my girlfriends on the 10/04/09.
my boyfriend and his friends got to the door before we did and spoke to the lady.
And she promised my boyfriend she would let us in on guest list as soon as we got to the door as long as it was before Midnight.
When we got to the door 10 minutes later Ms.Thing suddenly developed selective amnesia and claimed she had no idea what we were talking about.
So we had to queue up and get rained on...If it had not been for that deceptive bouncers attitude we would not have bothered with Carbon.
Super unfriendly staff with a complete lack of appreciation for an obscene amount of cash/tips left behind by our group.
AmEx not accepted. The whole place has a feel of a warehouse staffed by neanderthals. Please avoid at all costs and let the place go out of business.
I was invited to Carbon for a party and after reading some negative reviews had concerns, but decided to go anyway.
Now having been to the place myself I would have given it the rating of ZERO if it would be possible.
Went there with friends and had to queue for more than an hour (!) only to be turned at the door, because of the 1girl/1boy policy. Aren't clubs meant to be places where you actually meet people?
The fact all three of us were on the guest list also made little impression on the bouncers as their combined intellect is similar to that of Rico's from the Penguins of Madagascar.
Except Rico is adorable and they are simply dumb as a brick.Avoid this place for there are many worthy clubs around the area where you will actually enjoy spending your time and money at. And that's what we did.
Power hungry idiotic bouncers....made us queue up for about 45 minutes only to be ejected when we got to the front of the queue because we weren't with "girls" (there were four of us queuing and most of our group had gone in earlier than us)....
obviously it was too much for their brains to handle the fact that people can turn up individually and we didn't bother to argue.
Don't go there unless you want attitude from failed police academy recruits.
Carbon isn't even worthy of a 1 star rating! I am never one to write reviews, but this tale has to be told. I decided to organise my birthday here on 31st Jan 09, and thought i had avoided all the pitfalls that most people fall into on a night out.
Guestlist was done with full names and all my friends arrived at a reasonable time. My friends finally got to the front of the queue only to be told that the guestlist was cancelled?? WHAT?? This is certainly a first??
Guestlist cancelled so therefore no one (who isn't VIP of course) should really be allowed in right?? WRONG! It seems the doorman was particularly partial to a bit of leggy blonde and the cleavage to go with it...they juggled there way to the front, out popped the eyes and in they went.
After waiting for two hours in the blistering cold, my extremely annoyed friend decided to question this unorthodox entry into the club only to be told by the doorman that he decides who goes in, regardless of whether they are on guestlist, oh and then he chucked her out??
I was apparently one of the lucky ones who got in (NOT!). The inside showed a similar disservice just as at the queue. Took 30 minutes of waiting just to put our coats away? For crying out loud its a Saturday night, why is there only one person working in the cloakroom?...and she was as slow as hell! All in all i would never recommend this place to anyone.
If you want to be greeted by pathetic power hungry doormen be my guest. Thanks for ruining my birthday Carbon! I would also be very grateful if anyone could let me know the owner of this club, to whom i can personally share my thoughts to.
WARNING! The Venue is well furnished. The End! New Years Eve 2008/2009. The place is organised by highly unprofessional staff and security who clearly have no training or experience in thier supposed field. The security's most important job seemed to be preserving the vip area and little else.
At one point i was standing outside the toilet waiting for a friend and rudely told to move as i was standing too near the entrance to the vip area. After 1am security seemed to do little to remove trouble makers.
Shortly after police where called to the upstairs VIP area and a few officers had to deal with a situation so the toilets were closed as they were enroute to the vip area.
Then the only member of staff with any professionalism the guest list guy was set upon buy some party goers and had no support from security and was forced to calm the situation down on his own with help from other club goers.
Next the fire/panic alarm went off in the venue and the lights came up and everyone was told to leave so half the club went to the coat room area whilst four van loads of uniformed police stormed into the club and up to the vip area "obviously" where another fight had broken out.
Security made no attempt to control the crowd at the cloakroom and it was a free-for-all not helped by the fact that nobody realized it might be a good idea to allocate extra staff to give out coats. People had to wait upto 1.5 hrs to get coats while people who had gone outside, as told, where not allowed back in and had to freeze outside in the cold, while drunk people pushed to the front of the mob at the cloakroom and innocent people where being turfed out by security and police just for trying to get their jackets. The few bar staff there were, were professional and polite and one organiser who were surrounded with unprofessional morans. My advice Steer Clear.
Great place, great music and nice people! Definitely recommend this bar/club on a Saturday. Opens until 3am.
i have been in carbon twice and i loved it!!!! great music to keep u dancin all night long!!!
Its hardly a club!!!! I have had the pleasure to go to many clubs across London and as far as Im aware a club (as opposed to a bar) is open all night, 6am, 7am, I believe this shuts at 1am???? (If Im wrong apologies, however, I am pretty sure it is not open all night). There are plenty of clubs in London where I can pay £15 or less and go and see world renowned and respected DJ's, dance all night, have an amazing time and certainly not be treated like a peice of dirt. This place is a joke!
Shocking!!!!! Would not reccomend this place to anyone, a group of 10 of us arrived there at 8:30pm last Saturday night and were subjected to rude and obnoxious bouncers and no entry unless we payed £15.00 each to get into what looked like an empty bar!!!! Do they really think we are that stupid??? Pretentious and tacky is about all I have to add.
never normally write reviews, but this time I just couldn’t let it go. I recently visited Carbon club and had the most awful experience! Before I started queuing I was chatting to my friend who was standing in the enclosed smoking area. When I was just about to go and queue one of the bouncers came up to me and asked whether I was going to climb the fence to avoid paying for the entrance (This was utterly bizarre!). Whilst I was queuing, I saw one guy coming out from the club and talking to of his two female friends who were queuing right in front of me and explaining which name they were listed under on the guest list. The same bouncer then kicked that guy out as he supposedly was not meant to stand there! The shocked guy then tried to queue again together with his two friends but when their turn came the bouncer kicked them all out. He then did the same to me! I tried to complain, but the bouncer wouldn’t even give me his name. I got the impression that considering how unimportant their job was they were trying to show their importance and power. I would not recommend this club to anyone.
The most disgusting bar I have ever been to. The bouncers are uneducated and rude. DO NOT GO there if you want to have a nice time.
The door man was really friendly even when he asked me for an I.D/ still the atmosphere was really cool and as we were sitting in the VIP area upstairs we stll went downstairs becouse there were no room to dance! but the venue is really good, good music, nice people. CARBON!!!
It says free before 11 but then will tell you it's booked up and can't let you in! I foolishly forgot to print my confirmation. Of course they let us in an hour later at 15£ each!! We were kind of stuck for places to go and didn't have much choice. There is no dance floor and the vip upstairs and behind the chain curtains take up quite a bit of room. There's really know where to wonder around and end up in one place most of the time. The bartenders are the worst, most pretensious jerks I've encountered EVER! Don't waste your time here...
This bar is great ,went there saturday for my birthday!got in free as we was staying at the Cumberland. Not jam packed which was lovley, nice and cool, great chilled out atmophere. No attitude ,plus excellent music and dancing area!.10/10!Carbon.
My friends and I went to Carbon bar this Friday. What a scam!! I called up prior to us arriving only to be told we didnt need to get on a guest list and the entrance would be free if you arrive before 10.00. All the tables were fully booked but you can still drink by the bar. The lady I spoke to also told me that there is a dance floor which is quite spacious. We arrived at 9.30 only to be told that they were fully booked and that we couldnt come in...but if we came back at 10.00 they would let us in. And for the privilege of waiting around for 30 mins we get to pay £15.00 to get in. Much to my dismay the rest of my group still wanted to go in. So anyway we came back at 10.00 and they happily let us all in after charging us all £15.00. However there isnt a dance floor, you cant speak to the DJ so we all just paid £15.00 each to get in to a BAR! What a joke!!! The other thing I have to say is that the door men are some of the most pompous fools I have ever met, and I visit London nearly every weekend. They even refused to get the manager for me, could be something to do with the money the doorman seem to be scamming out of the entrance fees they charge. The bar was certainly not worth the fee!
This bar is the worst bar I've ever been to.
We went to London on 16 January.
We thought we pay a visit to the "latest late night bar in the West End".
Well, we got there just before midnight and the place was closed - what a joke!!!
