The ViewLondon Review
First glances upon entering this Soho bar will tell you that Club 49 is making a name for itself as a popular venue for after work drinks, without the pints and pub atmosphere. The VenueWith a pleasingly simple decor upon entering, the dark mahogany walls instantly highlight the lengthy and well stocked bar that makes up a large portion of the upstairs area. It’s pretty obvious that this is a venue that knows it can handle its drink. However, with so much emphasis on the impressive bar, they have somewhat neglected the seating. The small tables that are dotted along the back wall with uncomfortably crowded stools can make it difficult to find a seat on a busy Friday night. Unless you don't mind sipping your martini whilst rubbing shoulders with the stranger next to you, the VIP champagne bar towards the back may be more suited. Roped off and bathed in some impressive lighting, it’s hard to miss.
The AtmosphereWith the locale of Club 49 being in the heart of the Soho bar scene, the clientele is relatively mixed. However, on a week night you will find it's mostly a popular venue for after-work drinkers looking for a mojito instead of a Magners. With loud music filling the upstairs bar, it may not be the best place for a chat over drinks, but with the friendly and experienced bar staff offering table service, you won't have any trouble ordering drinks.
The MusicThe downstairs bar is where Club 49 offers revellers the opportunity to have a dance on the reasonably large dancefloor with a DJ booth playing chart favourites and RnB. The club’s music choices remain the same most nights, with the occasional promotional night and a selection of DJs playing in the downstairs bar.
The DrinkWith an extensively well-stocked bar and trained cocktail waiters juggling bottles whilst you wait to be served, you can guarantee some good quality drinks at Club 49. The menu boasts a great selection of cocktails, from the usual fare all the way up to the unique creations of the club. The drinks come presented beautifully and are all made with fresh fruit - the passion fruit cocktails being a particularly popular choice. The drink menu also boasts all the regular mixers, wine and a full champagne menu as well. Cocktails and mixers start at around £7.00.
The Last WordWith an excellent cocktail menu, professional staff and a loud, lively atmosphere, Club 49 is a venue to get clubbers off to a good start.
