The ViewLondon Review
Club at Friction is trying to emulate the trendier celebrity clubs of central London. And you know what? It’s not doing a bad job.
The Venue
While its sister venue Lounge at Friction concentrates on bold design accents and plenty in the way of seating, Club at Friction strips it right back to a simple if sleek bar, a dancefloor and swathes of white surfaces – including white sheets to hide whatever non-trendy ceiling is above. This is a part of Friction where the punters are the decorative features…
The Atmosphere
…And so it’s a good thing that the clientele are such a pretty bunch. Surprisingly free from the tackier elements that often hit these sorts of clubbing venues, this lot look they’ve stepped straight off of the Topshop website (and that’s a good thing). The atmosphere is surprisingly chilled, although as the evening wears on and the drinks flow, it’s easy to envisage that changing as there’s not a lot of room to move. Ready your best sardine impression, now!
The Music
They keep things interesting at Club at Friction with regular music events and DJs mixing it up. Depending on what day you go, you can expect everything from RnB and bashment through to commercial dance and club anthems, although you’ll pay more for the popular nights. Try and arrive before 10pm to get in for free.
The Drink
Impressively for a club like this, they offer draught beer at the bar in the form of the rather good Peroni. Nice touch. However, most of the clientele seem to prefer the ease of drinking bottles while dancing, be it beer or the ubiquitous alcopops. Then there are the rather disgustingly coloured shots. Lots of.
The Last Word
Club at Friction is a great example of a club in outer-London/Kent proving their party credentials. For locals fed up with getting the train in and out of the city centre, it’s a godsend.
