The ViewLondon Review
Boys will be boys, but this East London strip club doesn't fling its doors open to just anyone. If you want fully nude dancing without the boorish or boozy punters, try Club Oops in Aldgate. The VenueEdged up against the Square Mile and best got to from Aldgate station, Club Oops is clearly not a back street joint. For a start, there's a tasteful front terrace and polite bouncer to weed out the sportswear crowd. Arrive in smart casual and he will usher you in.
The front bar is compact, but there's no skimping on design. Elegant leather stools line the room, and a polished granite bar glistens from the soft red lighting above. The design and lighting spec flows through into the main room where the focal point is the pole dancing podium. Around it, leather, bucket-style chairs and dainty tables fill the narrow floor space. To the rear of the room, secluded VIP Champagne booths are cloaked in fine net curtains, and inside you find dark sofas, plump cushions and elegant candles. At the back of the club a metal chain curtain hides a kinky-looking room with poles and hard benches.
The AtmosphereThe most eye-catching aspect of the club is, of course, the women, who do their flirty best to entice city guys and stag parties to part with their money. A fully nude dance costs £20 and the exotic ladies here are just as engaging as they are pretty. There is no obligation to have a dance at Club Oops, some customers simply buy a drink and stare contentedly at screens showing the football.
The MusicClub Oops has a house DJ who plays chart tunes, RnB and '80s anthems, but the music policy is largely dictated by the girls who are the only ones dancing anyway.
The DrinkPrices here are fairly modest for a lap dancing venue. The daytime drinks menu is obviously cheaper, but you can still get a bottled beer for under £4.00, up until closing time. Fine wines, spirits and cocktails are more expensive, and for the genuine high roller there's always the Champagne list. If a £110 bottle of Bollinger Special Cuvee doesn't cut it, get the efficient waiting staff to bring over a Louis Roederer Crystal Rose with its hefty price tag of £2500!
The Last WordThis is a tough market to crack, but Club Oops has built up a loyal following because it is smart, friendly and very well run.
