Similarly to most of these reviews some friends and I were refused entry here on Saturday night by a pretentious little doorman fashioning a bad moustache. We were turned away because we weren’t, and I quote: “gay enough”. Errr. Enough said! Avoid this horrid, jumped up excuse for a bar!- It’s an insult to East London!

I recently had the pleasure of meeting the Dalston Superstore door fascist and you may read some reviews from the owner/regulars trying to balance the argument. Let me tell you now this is not a place worth visiting as you may not get in, FACT.
You may think that I turned up in a Ben Sherman shirt or up with a big group of lads, but there was no reason I could see not to let us in. The mustachioed 'door spotter' (someone employed to get 'cool' people into their club) said they didn't let in 'big groups'.... there were 5 of us (3 lads, 2 girls). I've experienced the door spotter at other clubs but usually it's just to make sure that people are turning up for the music, and to stop passing trade just wandering in.
The night in question was Horse Meat Disco, a night/label that I've followed for a couple years now and think that it does DJs like Severino no favors in the long term by pissing of their regular trade for uber cool, here today gone tomorrow followers. It also doesn't instil much hope for gay club land as it seems that Dalston Superstore attitude is setting things back 15 years by segregating the crowd into gay and straight, I personally think that all nights in London should celebrate the diversity and general acceptance that we enjoy here in London.
If you're looking for a night out east then shop around, there are plenty of good nights out there. One of my favourites is East village friendly door/bar staff, friendly people, great atmosphere and good music, all of which the superstore seems to fail at.

Totally brilliant and miles ahead of every other bar up the Kingsland Rd. The Dj line-ups are always amazing and I went to see Optimo DJ's play here recently and had one of the best nights out in ages. Soundsystem is killer too - ignore the disgruntled types that didn't seem to have got in - this place is well worth it for a guarenteed great night dancing!

This place took me back to being 18 again...in the worst way possible. Innocently turning up for a friend's birthday party I was refused entry for no reason at all. The "power" bestowed on the little man on the door has gone to his head and he seemed to really enjoy turning people away. Despite polite attempts at explaining my friend was on her way for her birthday he simply said he "had not been informed". Oh dear..why would he have been informed? Anyway, if you want to feel insecure, inadequate and ultimately end up in a bar down the road visit Daslton Superstore - or save the bus journey and try a private members' club in Mayfair - you'll get the same experience.

Have to more then agree with you. We are in the very late thirtees, but still young as for looks etc, had also been turned down by some stupid little jerk, it was only around 10.30 pm, the place wasn't crowded at all yet, felt horrible to be refused the entry. He said we do not look gay enough! Or something like that. Really!

Very rude door staff! Worst I've seen in years of clubs. After lining up in the queue, the guest list guy decided to insult me after I explained my friends had just gone in "you have no friends" as I replied I realised he wasn't joking at all. I was then told it was guestlist only.

Avoid and plan your evening elsewhere, you'll feel better about it.

Nice interior but nasty door staff, pretentious crowd and generally a nasty little venue, personally I think this marks the end of Dalton's edgy, cool that welcomed everyone, basically it's the new Shoreditch. Awful!

I must disagree - I was a regular customer at the Superstore since it opened and always had a great time. It was a fantastic neighbourhood bar that finally had the feel of everything that Shoreditch lost. Regrettably Italian Vogue's piece on Dalston went to the Superstore's head and they refused to let a group of friends in with me. The cute Scottish man (questionable depending on your type) Lerug speaks of was a ghastly queen to my guests and I was faced with embarrassment as I had hyped the venue for months - it was my favourite local bar.

Is the bar still fun? Truthfully yes. But this attitude will not serve it well. The last thing we need is another place with an undeserved Mayfair attitude. Isn't that why many of us moved to East London to begin with - cheap rent and to escape that horrible class system?

Who would have thought that you could get this in London? ..

..a total breath of fresh air and made me feel like I was in Berlin!

Great venue, friendly staff, briliant music and a totally refreshing night out away from the horrors of Shoreditch.

Just don't tell too many people and ruin the secret!

Terrible place where everyone has a stupid thin drawn on tash, their grandad's clothes and a smell of musty old cool that has seen better days.

try it at your peril or go to a proper place in dalston and leave this one for the select smelly and very sad old crowd!

I couldn't disagree more! I think it is fabulous!!!

The people are friendly, everyone is like your friend whether you know them or not. I think the guys (gays) on the door are so adorable I want to take them home, especially that little Scottish one, he's so cute and friendly.

Plus the security there are just delicious!!!GO, just go! it's great. Because it's so good, don't be surprised if it gets busy, be prepared to queue later on in the night.

It's worth the wait!!!

This place is fab in the day too. The veggie breakfasts are to die for and it's one of the few places we don't feel stared at in for being dykey!

Check it out Dalstonites. The staff are great and the place deserves to do brilliantly as it's so relaxed!
