I would love to review this place having tried to visit it one Friday night. My friends were in there drinking and I went over to meet them, intrigued as I'd never heard of this bar before. On arrival I was told to wait outside whilst the clipboard girl dealt with a small group of people. When it was my turn I explained that I was joining a group of friends who were already inside and they had left my name on the door. She checked the list but couldn't find me and called the head-doorman who then denied me entry.I explained to him that I was on my own and meeting friends, but was told quite bluntly that I wasn't going in.Even ringing my friends on their mobiles to come out and vouch for me did very little and on questioning, the doorman told me that I wasn't coming in, because the management had distinctly told him not to let people like me inside.I'm not really sure what he meant by this comment, but it is pretty insulting.I go out regularly in London, to many bars, some of them exclusive, and have never had any problem getting in anywhere in my life. I suppose these things have to happen eventually, so I decided to investigate further the experience of being denied entry to a bar and began to question the doorman to find out what it is about me that they don't want in there. He wasn't very forthcoming with his reasons, but then he is hired for his physical stature and not his intellect.I did try to explain to him that by not letting me in he was putting me in the rather embarrassing position of ringing my friends and asking them to leave so we could go elsewhere and drink. He remained stubborn as all ignorant people do when faced with reason and so my loyal clan of ten were forced to walk out of there and we went to the Kingly Club instead, where by the way, we had a lovely evening. At the end of the day I'm not going to beg a place to take my hard-earned cash and especially not a second-rate bar in Haymarket
Such a fun place! Beautifully kitsch in its decor, fab cocktails (Electric Ice Tea is lovely, but rather potent, but certainly a must!!) Friendly staff, friendly clientele. A lovely quirky little place (yes it is small but that's not alwas a bad thing). Very unpretentious for the area - everyone was up on the dance floor and out to have fun - without a total lack of standard, unlike it's neighbour Tiger Tiger. A great place or drinks and fun with the girlies!
The Birdcage Happy Hour, well its more like a Happy Half day; is an indulgent treat.
I went with my girls and a few of the gents from the office and had a a verry pleasurable evening. It was 2 for 1 on cocktails.
I had vodka martinis, one after another, after another.)))
Get there before 7pm, otherwise its hard to get a table.
Reading all the raving reviews on this site makes me wonder I must have gone to a different place. It's yet another tiny venue with generic everything - except, perhaps, the many plastic birdcages in garish colours which are on display at the windows for no meaningful purpose. Worse still, their staff are rather rude and when my friend asked to take a look at the place (she was there for the first time) before paying the entry fee, they gave her really faces. Will never go back again.
I have been a regular visitor ( esp fridays ) of electric bird cage since last yaer and it is fabalous! The deco, the atmosphere , cocktail menu is to die for.... I think the door staff do need to up there game, and allow more crowd to come in as the night ends early if not many inetersting people around! Love the music and service that you get from all staff, definately recommend a visit. You will not be dissaponited... Keep up the good work, finally i have a desent place to go to in london !!!! Mini me
Went to Electric Birdcage last night..... asbolutely loved it! Decor was fantastic and really different, food was good if you went for the stir fry/curry etc (I had noodles which were 3 pounds) rather than the dim sum which was a bit pricey for what you got! Music was great & the cocktails were funky! Was really quiet when we first got there but livened up later in the night.... Really good atmosphere and would definitely go back & recommend to others! Only negative was that the waitresses insisted on serving your drinks to your table and then charged a service charge for this! Cheek!
Combine Sketch, Nobu, and Demin. That will give you an idea of what Electric Birdcage is like. It gives you all that's needed for a perfect night. Good drinks, wicked music- even the front room playing the oldies and commercial hits is pure nistalgia, affordable food, and uber polite staff. Loves it!
I usually go to EBC after work, just in time to catch the 2 for 1 cocktail happy hour. It's the perfect lounge bar/restaurant/club (triple threat) to have a drink outside and let loose or have a night cap. If your going ask for the Electric Ice tea.
I went to Electric Birdcage last Saturday night, and had a great time. We where very well looked after and they even allowed us to keep our table all night. Food was excellent, very cheap. Cocktails very very good. We stayed right till the end, 4am. will def be back again. Long live Electric Birdcage....XXXXX
hi, everyone x i have never wrote, a review before, but after reading some of yours, i feel i need to have my say... i have visted eb , at least 4 times, and have found it so refreshing, its so femail friendly
from the music, although some times a little to 80s in front room lol, but the rnb is in back room, nice to hear 2 styles of music at long last, the decor is mardid shic, mixed with alice in wonderland, plus the place has real airconditoning, drinks are cheap to, staff are nice enough, they pay attention, i have visted most clubs , this place really is worth a night out, only thing the place is mostly filled with girls,, id like to see more guys, big kiss c
I really don't understand the negative reviews here. I am now officially a regular here now and have been hooked since I first entered those doors. The only fault or issue with this beaut of a club would be the surly doorman as you enter. All the other doormen are great and the staff are friendly and helpfull as are the other regulars in the club ie the cute dark guy with the rasta hair styled and his gorgeous blonde girlfriend who has legs to die for! they can be found in the front of the club and always have a smile on their faces. I think you should try it for yourself before jumping to conclusions.
lol well what can i say the Electric Birdcage, what a joke, being a west end club manager myself i have to say i have never in my life come across such rude ,unhelpfull and down right stupid group of staff in a west end club, who ever is in hr get it togather , how it can possibly have the nerve to call itself a top night spot is beyond belief, firstly we had pre arranged with the promotor to have comp entry as i was taking a group of 15 people out with me,what a supprise when we got to the door not only did they not no who we were and they had the nerve to try to tell me we all had to pay lol.once inside our table that was supposed to have been reserved for us was given away as we had said we were going to be there at 11pm but we got there 11.15pm,
all in all what a pathetic excuse for a "top london night spot"a dj in a cage lol no dance floor and when we did have a big of a groove we were told to stop lol.
to sum up.DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY THERE ARE LOADS OF BETTER PLACES TO GO,DONT BOTHER TRYING TO TALK TO ANYONE THEY DONT GIVE A DAM ABOUT YOU.AND MY ADVICE TAKE YOUR MONEY AND YOUR FRIENDS SOME PLACE ELSE IF YOU WANT A GOOD NIGHT ,
the lowest rating you can give is a 1 star but compeared to the other clubs i manage and go to as a customer i would give it a -100 rating if i could, GET IT SORTED BIRDCAGE THE WORD IS SPREADING YOUR A JOKE
Personally I have no idea what most of these reviewers are on about, Electric Birdcage is a great little club, I have never had any problems there, I've always been looked after really well by all the staff, the manager was charming and one of partners (from Preferred Parties) ensured we were well looked after all night. The music is great, decor is really unique and the people who go there (unlike in so many London clubs) are friendly. Dont be put off - its a great night out.
This is an absolutely appalling place where they only care about making money! I booked a meal for 20 for my birthday and I have to say that every stage of the booking process was a nightmare. They force you to have the overpriced set menu rather than selecting your own dishes. When we arrived I was greeted by some very arrogant, surly bouncers who had trouble finding me and my 20 guests 'on the list'. Eventually I got in when one of the waitresses started nagging me about sitting down in our allotted two hour slot (id arrived early and there was plenty of time). Then I noticed that two of my friends were having trouble at the door- the guy had trainers on and they wouldnt let him on (they were smart brown leather ones not even scruffy)- this was followed by the manager- a horrific man- saying to me that I was causing him 'trouble' and a 'nightmare' by letting my 'scruffy' friends in. He said to me that If any more of my friends turned up looking 'scruffy' he wouldn't let them in. He said to me that on all of his emails he had put about how no trainers were allowed- this was not true- I never saw anything. This was after I had paid deposits and set meals for everyone.
We all sat down to start eating- I was trying to enjoy it but the manager kept pulling me out for little pep talks about how I had caused him grief and how he was doing me such a big favour- yeah sure Im bringing 20 peoples worth of business to you and this is how you treat me.
Only one out of five of the women's toilets were working- the others were blocked and smelt awful.
The food was ok but no way worth the £20 each we had to pay.
Finally the bill arrived at £382, including £45 service charge. I ended up agreeing to pay it as I just wanted to get out of there- when I had counted all the money and agreed it was all there with the waitress she then came back in a very rude manner and said to that they were missing £20! I argued with her about the fact that we had confi
This venue is a joke. I visited the bar to meet my brother who had chosen your venue to hold his company’s Christmas function. I met a companion outside and then went to go inside.
At first we were both refused entrance. This was then immediately retracted and we were told there would be a £20 cover charge for entrance.
We then explained who we were meeting and why we were there etc. Coincidentally some of the party we were supposed to be joining came out for a cigarette and they were able to confirm that we had come to meet them.
We were then told we would incur a £10 cover charge, despite the fact we were joining an existing group.
Eventually we were told that one of us could go in for free but the other would still have to pay a £10 cover charge.
This process took no less than 30 minutes during which time we spent the entire 30 minutes standing outside in the cold.
Needless to say I saw no logic or justification for their entirely inconsistent cover charging and therefore no logic or justification in either of us paying it. My companion and I were polite, had offered no abuse or argument, merely stated who we were meeting and why and those people had supported this.
The door staff were not helpful nor were they polite, nor did they offer any explanation for initially attempting to charge us both £20 each and eventually saying one could go in for free and one would still have to pay £10 …even though we were joining a party who had spent (and would continue to spend) a significant amount in the venue.
I'd travelled straight from home to the venue, completely sober. Duly, I returned straight home, my money and time wasted and my night ruined.
Text book example of a pretentious venue with over aggressive and ignorant staff.
I do not recommend this place to anyone. I hope this place either changes their attitude to customers, re-trains their staff (and their manager) or just simply close down. DO NOT GO CLOSE and definitely do not hire out for a party- you will be overbilled to a large extent or coerced into leaving.
Went here last night...I could not stop laughing!! Theres nothing posh about this place!!! Not enough seats and the Dj is playing well in a ...birdcage???!!! hahha...well..i think i will stick to chinawhite after this experience!
Overall, a hugely disappointing experience. While the standard and price of the food are reasonable, the service is appalling (worse than the infamous Wong Kei in Wardour Street, and that’s saying something)! Certainly not somewhere I would take my friends for a meal in future.
In short, we were rather annoyed to say the least when the waiting staff attempted to remove us from our table about 20 minutes after they had served our meal. This was only an hour after we had been seated, and we were clearly still in the middle of our meal! It was explained to us that they had other customers waiting for our table.
Our reservation had been made over a week in advance and we had not been told – either when we booked the table or upon our arrival at the venue – that we had ONLY ONE HOUR to dine. On top of this, the waitress had the cheek to charge us the 12.5% “discretionary” service charge (which by the way does not appear to be discretionary at all!).
When we asked to speak with the manager during our visit, he/she was conveniently “unavailable”. We were told by the waiting staff that Electric Birdcage is “more of a bar than a restaurant” despite the fact it was advertised as a bar and restaurant on the site that we booked.
Try Ping Pong (various venues around London) if you’re looking for similar cuisine and great cocktails without getting kicked off your table!!
I visited this venue partly because of the good reviews, but also because of word of mouth. There is no doubt that the venue looks impressive inside, but having visited it experienced it once it's left a bitter taste.
I went from feeling very excited about my visit to feeling very disappointed. The place isn't cheap and appears to be guestlist only. There appeared to be a lot of staff working, but not doing very much and those that were, were very rude - we for one were told to vacant our seats as we had not reserved them (no mention of any of the tables being reserved), asked if there was anywhere else to sit, we were told to just stand by the bar. It made us feel that we we were not wanted and clearly not spending enough mone for their liking.
This place is still new and surely word of mouth is the best advertising, but if they continue to employ such rude staff and make there customers feel uncomfortable they may have a very short shelf life. I for one went to check it out for a number of corporate events coming up, but sadly it won't be on my list of places to go. I may not have had much money to spend, but my corporates would have spent thousands!
I checked out Electric Birdcage mainly because I had read that the bar was shaped like a carousel. Based on this I assumed it would be a fun bar. And it was! Great drinks, and tasty tidbits of dim sum to pace them with.
I went along to this bar to celebrate a birthday as the reviews we read were all pretty good. The venue is gorgeously done out and the staff's outfits are very cool. However we found the bar staff unfriendly and unhelpful which was really disappointing. It was as if the staff did not want to be there and you were an inconvenience! Overall pretty disappointed. Would definitely not rush back.
This is such a fab bar - combining Dim Sum and cocktails? Genius! Haymarket is such a chav-fest, it's great to see something so funky arrive. Me and my mates are going to be back for more defo!
