I live down the road from embargos and have been denied entry twice with a group of asian friends.

the first incident I also overheard the manager or someone in communication with the bouncer saying not to let us in. the bouncer came over to us and said we won't be allowed in because... he then paused and looked down at our shoes which were not visible to him as he approached us and said errr you cant wear timberland shoes. as I lived down the road I said we could go get my mate some black shoes to wear, then the bouncer trying to think of another excuse which he couldn't do said sorry you just won't be allowed in either way.

the second time we went with a group of asian boys and girls the bouncer again in communication with someone at the door pulled us out of the queue and told us to find somewhere else to go as the place was "quite" full. the other people behind us in the queue where not asked to find somewhere else to go.

I really urge any ethnic minorities not to go to embaros. you will only get turned away and have your night ruined. I hope someone who is associated with the press could try getting into this club with ethnic minorities and see what they feel about the matter.

I have enjoyed some amazing nights at Embargos in the past, and it's one of my favourite clubs. I was out with two friends and we were on the guestlist and arrived before 11, but there seemed no reason to even have a guestlist as we were told to queue with everyone who wasn’t on it. I bought 2 shots and was charged £20 (especially considering I had bought 3 rum and cokes before for £26 which is fine)!! I asked the barmaid if she made a mistake, but she didn’t seem to care. Otherwise good night, but very disappointed about lack of benefits of being on the guestlist and being overcharged.

Hi there,

Thank you for your review. By being on a guestlist you are ensuring that you make a saving of £4-£7.50 (depending on what night you came along) on your entrance fee, that is the key benefit for booking a guestlist with us. To save even more money & to ensure queue jump then you would be advised to reserve a table with us.

In regards to your drinks, what shots did you purchase? It is probably that you had house rum but then ordered a premium spirit to shoot which naturally would be more expensive per shot. We also run drinks propotions on specific nights so it's possible this would have effected the price of your drinks.

Just been here for my 21st with a group of mates, went to a couple of bars before, then embargo just made the night!
Booked the gold lounge through a lady called Tamzin who was really helpful and nice!(rang about 10 clubs not all of them was as helpful).

The only slight fault was the table size and seating area for 10 people, was not enough room to seat everyone, would suggest a different seating area for a group as big as 10.

Overall - service,club,crowd,music 10/10 :)...Definetly going back!

Nice place, good crowd, friendly staff, SUPER friendly bar staff.

The music was ok, it was pretty loud and not my fave but the terrace is excellent. It's very sheltered and lots of seats and more like a smoking room than an outside bit.

Overall, good if you fancy a change it's a fun place.

Great club, good music (ESP comparing to public from last weekend) and a fun crowd...however, at £19.60 for two vodka and sodas I have to disagree with others that prices are reasonable! Not even the premium vodka was used... Public's drinks were much more reasonably priced than this, we're not all investment bankers...

Thanks for your review.Firstly my sincere apologies that your night was clearly ruined by being unable to access the venue and also the time that was taken before it was made clear to you that unfortunately you would not be able to come in wearing the footwear you had on, the weekend just gone was as ever extremely busy but that is no excuse. If you would like to drop me an email I will look into who told you that your footwear was acceptable, but I can confirm it is our policy on Friday and Saturday to only accept formal footwear, the front of house staff operate this policy accordingly at their discretion. My email address is simon.allison@embargo59.com.

what type of shoes were you wearing? Just wondering because I'm planning on going there on Saturday and don't want to get refused. Are a pair of vans or canvas type shoe boots pushing it?

After reading so many glowing reviews I thought I'd try Embargo 59 last Saturday. I went with one friend and though we weren't on the guestlist and it was a busy Saturday night, we still got in and the door staff were so polite!! Once inside, the security and the bar staff were all so friendly. The crowd was wonderful, very friendly. The club had a laid back atmosphere and was totally unpretentious. My friend kept commenting on how handsome all the guys were! Everyone was lovely. Great club, great staff, great crowd, great atmosphere. Would thoroughly recommend.

Not Bad.

It felt like being back at a night out in Durham uni - basically mainstream music, chino and popped collar brigades flock to the lit up dance floor whilst aggressively dry humping their pray for the night.

The drinks were a fair price (for London) . The cloakroom staff are ridiculously inefficient. 3/5 of us had issues despite having our tickets, with one also threatening to get security (really, just hand us back our coats!)

I did enjoy it, but it didn't feel like anything special. You will have fun, but I'm not sure I am convinced. I haven't had table service or been VIP, but the security staff were friendly.

Word of warning - you will need you ID (this would also apply to OAPS)

Thanks for your review, I felt it was only right I reply to you as you took the time to write about the venue.

A significant part of the phenomenal success we have enjoyed over the past two and a half years has indeed be down to offering a high end clubbing experience to the likes of Durham graduates, as well as similar universities, and I feel we are rightfully proud of that.

The music is indeed commercially lead but at the same time credible, so while you won't hear 'cheese' you undoubtedly do hear the best bootlegs, mashups and remixes of tunes associated with the contemporary chart listings.

On the point of the cloakroom, it would appear you visited this month when of course there is a high volume of items to be deposited, however we would never look for an excuse for poor service and will actively address the issue, in fact I am pleased to say we will be adding another cloakroom to the venue (in a different location) to spread the service out and improve it ultimately.

In terms of being asked for identification, the explanation for this is that it is a part of our license and consequently perhaps part of the reason we won the Best Bar None 2011 award for Kensington and Chelsea, in not just the club category but also the overall award for all licensed venues (whether they be bars, pubs etc).

We entirely appreciate that Embargo is not for everyone 'TheGuilfordGirl' but for those it does appeal to, we provide am an extremely high level of service and a memorable night.

Absolutely awesome night here went for my friends birthday a few months ago and decided to go back for my birthday - booked a table in the main club room and it was amazing!

We arrived at the club before 11 to gain our free entry with the table but didnt get in until after as we were in the queue but the girls there were absolutely fine with this and let us in for free.

Once in there we were well looked after and our waitress was brilliant making sure we were all having fun. As usual the music was great and we were dancing ALL night long.

Good thing is this club attracts nice ppl not the snotty crowds u see in Mayfair and u wud sort of expect to find here.

I will defoooooo be going back there no doubt about it - its a sure thing to have a gd night here!

A group of about 15 of us from work came here Monday 19th December after hearing good things. None of us had been before but everyone loved it! The queue to get in was fine and the guys on the door were lovely and chatty. The music was the best I had heard in any London club for a long time, such a good mix! Another massive bonus is that drinks weren't priced ridiculously and all the bar staff were friendly and attentive, again unusual for a London club! We all had an amazing night, mainly spent on the dance-floor, and will definitely be coming back up very soon! x

Not a bad night but spoiled by the scum minicab pirates outside, they wanted £48 to the mayfair hilton, jumped a black cab £22 including a good tip. The quicker the police stop these muggers outside most clubs and resturants the better as London has a very bad rep. in NYC for this.

Genuinely very concerned to hear this, while there isn't much we can do about the rates minicab drivers charge, we will be having a word with the licenced minicab firm that operate outside the venue and clarifying what is acceptable. Hope it didn't tarnish what seems to have been a good night.

Saturday at Embargo 59. What a night!
Firstly I'd like to say it's a breath of fresh air to visit a London club that isn't packed with promotion kids thinking they own the place.
The whole night ran seamlessly from start to finish.
Greeted at the gold room by the absolute worldy from Manchester, exceptional service from all waitresses and staff all night.
Will without a doubt be making a return visit to the club.
If you're looking for good music, service with a smile, great crowd and a club that wont make you lose phone signal (massive bonus by the way) then look no further.

The club looks nice but I was witness to the bouncers violence towered women, in which a lady was dragged down 3 flights of metal stairs by her neck. The police, and the management were involved and despite the management saying they knew who it was they later denied this and said the CCTV camera in the stairwell was broken. None of our group of will ever go back and would not recommend anyone else go ever.

Hope you are very well. Obviously I am highly alarmed to read of this review but also slightly confused as having checked our extensive incident report system and thorough police logs there are no such reports. If you would like to contact me directly on simon. Allison@embargo59. Com I am sure we can clear this up. At Embargo 59 we are extremely proud of the diligence and general conduct of all our staff including the security team, who were part of the reasons we won the Best Bar None award last year, given out by Kensington and Chelsea council. I have absolute faith that the incident you allege certainly didn't occur at Embargo 59, so hopefully we can clear this all up. I look forward to hearing from you. Simon Allison

Ten of us in total 6 guys and 4 girls and none of us can wait to be back in London to go again, would definitely recommend it.

This is the only club in London that is still living in the 60's. I booked a VIP table & paid my deposit as required. On the night when I got to the queue I overhead the manager telling the security staff not to let us in. We were all dressed in suits and were not acting rowdy so the only logical reason was because we were all black. There were other ethnic minority people in the queue and they too were not allowed entry. In this day & age I find it unbelievable that a club can still get away with this behaviour so if you are not white, save your disappointment and don't waste your time trying to go here.

As the Marketing Manager for Embargo 59 I feel it is only right I clarify our position on this presumably fictitious and peculiar review. It has never been our policy to take a deposit for table reservations, so for you to assert that you in someway paid a deposit only highlights the entirely spurious nature of this defamatory review.
As anyone in Chelsea knows, the crowd at Embargo 59, a Cuban inspired venue, are very cosmopolitan in nature and I can assure anyone reading this that the only entry requirements are that everyone has a respectable appearance, is well dressed and at least 21 years of age.

believe me this review is entirely correct

I was there last Friday for my friend Camilla's 25th, booked three tables in the gold/vip room which seemed relatively reasonable, where Zoe the hostess of the room looked after us really well, including special access to the terrace area. Haven't been to Embargo since it has been re-branded/refurbished as I moved to New York for work but great to be back, and this must be the only club in Chelsea where you don't feel molested every time you go to the dance-floor. Would recommend the Juliet punchbowl and the minty shots the hot barman made us! Great night, really good service from the girls looking after us and have just decided to have my hen do there in the summer.

I am very disappointed that I have to write a review like this, but I am appalled and disgusted at the attitude of the staff. Before we arrived, we did actually anticipate what would happen, and arranged guestlists elsewhere just in case, but it is a shame that we were proved right.

Last night was my girlfriend's birthday. After having emailed previously and arranged a guest list for 25 people, we all turned up to Kings Road in taxis. We arrived early-ish, as we were told to do, but when we arrived, we were told to wait in the queue whilst the head of security spoke to his manager.
We all knew what was going on.
Unsurprisingly the bouncer came back and told us that the email stated entry was at his discretion and he was not going to let us in.
Now I ask anyone reading this, including the staff at Embargo exactly what that 'discretion' was? We were given no good reason for being denied entry.
They claimed we had over 30 people (which is ridiculous as we counted everyone into taxis). Everyone was well behaved, no one was being rowdy. We were a group of lawyers, bankers and medical students, well dressed and ready for a good night.
When I pointed out what I thought the problem was the bouncer told everyone we were being denied entry because of me.

I should point out that the majority of our party was British-Asian.
Decide for yourself what you think the problem was, but the most obvious (and anticipated) reason I can think of absolutely disgusts me.

I invite the staff or anyone else to provide a convincing alternative explanation, because I still can't believe this happens in modern-day London.

Don't usually do these reviews but just wanted to post something as Embargo saved me this weekend, following the rugby at Twickenham we had planned to head centrally till I heard my table reservation had been messed up. A friend suggested we called Embargo, who hooked us up with a table in the 'Gold Room', hadn't been there since they redid it...literally had such a blast!

Really good atmosphere, bottle service on tables was good value, seriously hot chicks, club was very busy but thankfully we didn't have to queue, actually ended up seeing quite a few of the England team in there also who were top boys...

Will be back after the Samoa game but won't be visiting that venue in Central London again!

Cheers Embargo guys!

Embargo 59 is awesome! I have been frequenting Embargo 59 for the last year since the stunning refurb. Friendly staff, great drink selection, excellent cigars, well policed by the security staff, "mayfair" standard of finish in the club. I always go vip with as big a group as possible. Though the main club great in it's own right the comparative quiet and space in the gold room is invaluable. The smoking terrace (accessible via vip or main floor) is also amazing; almost a mini club in it's own right, with lounging (free) couches, heaters, mini bar and music. Well done Simon, Zoe, Leo and all the crew.

First, I'm sorry if a make some mistakes writing this but I'm Spanish, and i'm still learning english. I live in London since September and yesterday was our first time in Embargo, we went for a friend's birthday. I just only can say that I loved it! Of course, drinks are not cheap, and I don´t like to pay just for coming into a bar (in Spain you pay in some places, but unless you have one drink, so, i'm sorry but I can't give you 5 stars jeje), but you have another places with the same prices and much less quality. People was amazing (staff and customers), really polite, and we have no one problem. Even, a girl friend of mine, drank too much (or maybe had too few for dinner) and she was really bad, almost slept and a security guy just came to ask us about her, if she was ok and of course to ask us to bring her at home, but he was really polite and quite, so I think that if some one is thrown sometimes from a club is just because they are the first ones who scream and fight (i've seen a lot of them). I asked the business card to the Marketing Manager and he gave it to me without any problem. Simon wait for us because you are gonna be a really good friend of us, we are gonna be your best customers! Lol. I think is one of the best places. I really liked the decoration, the atmosphere, the music, the ice buckets inside the tables! And I don't smoke but I love your terrace! Congratulations and thank you!

I went to Embargos for a friends birthday. This is the first time I have been to Embargos, I am in my early thirties and was asked for ID. I was a little shock as I do not look 18, However when the Bouncer there explained that it was over 21's and that he also used it as a way to have conversation with customers to see what state they are in, I was impressed. I have to say that it was very nice to go to a bar/club that the crowd were older and didn't have drunken children scream around us. OK the drinks where a little expensive but it was worth it for the age group around me. All in all a great night.

Went last night for a friends birthday and was very disappointed. After hearing about the refurb I had high hopes but Embargo 59 has very little to impress with. The music was shocking and no one was dancing. After my friend suggested to the dj to play something a little better, this little skinny jeans bearded boy jumped round from behind his decks and started a fight. He not only pushed and swore at our group but he tried to head butt me! Bouncers "didnt see anything" and that was that.

Asked to see the manager but told he wasnt around! Music continued to be rubbish and the dj was the only person dancing all night (yes, he came round from behind the decks to dance to his own tunes - classy)a place to avoid. Stay away!

I was in Embargos for new years eve and I was randomly thrown out by the bouncer for doing absolutely nothing. I am a 24 year old girl and they removed me like i was a bloke starting a fight or something. They were incredibly aggressive and nasty. I was in the gold room when it happened and just asked the girl on the door if my 2 Friends could come back in who had been there the entire night but just popped out for a cigarette. She said no, then 2 seconds later i was lifted up by the bouncer and thrown out. Unbelievable. I had had the unpleasant experience of being mugged by two men the night before and this seriously added to the stress and trauma of it all and bought back a whole lot of anxiety. They have no respect for people and are basically just paid thugs

May be I should correct u my darling and make one thing clear the reason u were removed from the club was for u absene behaviour and telling members of staff to go and f. K them selves and act like a spoilt child. Do u think we are here for your amusement we are humanbeings in case u might not have realised

I never said that at all actually, whoever said that obviously miss heard. U think you can say whatever you like because people in there have been drinking but i remember the entire evening and so does everyone who I was with, and everyone was as shocked as I was. You do not have to speak to me in that patronising way as well.....I am also a HUMAN BEING! I dont think anyone has the right to put there hands on a girl in the manner in which that bouncer did, it was totally disgusting, and he should be ashamed of himself.

I contacted Embargo59 and made a high number of requests, changes to dates, guest lists adding more people, a table booking etc, the club accommodated all of it.

The club supported me in everything and all the way! The night of my birthday on the 30th October, I was met by a lovely polite lady, I told her who I was which she informed me that I had a lot of friends waiting upstairs for me.

I was escorted upstairs, by another lovely polite lady. Me and my friend were asked to pay to enter, the price on the door was cheap for what my evening had in store for me.

The lady waited for me and escorted me inside and over to my table, surround by friends. As I had over 25 people there, the table was only suited for 8 people, I told the lady I would not require this table, the staff had no problem with my changing my mind at this short notice.

The decor was wow, the seating clean and freshly styled, the dance floor was lit up with different colours, something that really up lifted the atmosphere.

Empty glasses or spillages were attended to swiftly, the club wanted to keep well presentation throughout the night. All the staff were really friendly.

They too looked like they were enjoying the night. The security not seen till the night was over to close up. The outside terrace area was beautiful, nice lighting and smooth decor.

The crowd, amazing, filled with only mature people, I felt completely safe in this club not having the fear of someone spoiling my evening with bad manners.

The vibe was completely different and the crowd it attracts is just something else! The DJ was great more than willing to take photo’s with me to remind me on my night at Embargo. The music was great and got everyone in the club dancing.

Drinks were really reasonable, no expense for what you would expect. I LOVED IT! Top class treatment, experience with a club like never before. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND

At last a West-end quality venue down in Chelsea, gone are the days when I had to get cabs to and from Chelsea to Mahiki or similar, finding myself there Thursday to Saturday is something I would have been ashamed of,

I now am proud to be associated with such a quality establishment.

Also Sam Young on Wednesdays??? What a coup.

I'm trying hard to think of a nice thing to say about this place but what's the point, there isn't anything.

Embargo's has recently had a refurb which has removed the little atmosphere that it originally did have. When myself and my girlfriend arrived on a Friday night we were charged £15 each.... £30 pounds?

"you do realise this is embargo's not some trendy mayfair club was my response".

Unfortunately we paid to get in and immediately realised it was a mistake. We tried to proceed to the dance floor but it was literally impossible due to the complete overgrowding (health and safety regulations are obviously no concern for this place).

I was not going to even contemplate queing for a drink as it was about 12pm and the place probably closed at 3.Long story short we were in there for less time than it has taken me to write this as there was no room to move, let alone dance.

Out of frustration from trying to fight our way back to the exit I admitedly pushed open the fire escape to the complete annoyance of the bouncers (this was my only feeling of one uppance) but at £30 for 5 minutes that was small recompense. In short this is a terrible club and you would have a much better (if not a little cheesy) night next door!!!

On Oct. 8th, I was with my friend who had a comp table/bottles and I was dancing with this beautiful girl and they just randomly grabbed me and threw me out.

I tried to calmly tell them that I think they might have me confused with someone else and asked why they were escorting me out but, they gave me no explanation.

I'm from NYC and in all the years of going to top clubs and lounges back home I have never been thrown out of ANYWHERE!!

It was a really warm welcome to London on my 2nd night; I will never return to this venue.

With all top night clubs in london you don't get thrown out for no reason, also they dont have time to listen to any reasons you may have, sounds bad but theres always something going on.

They are there to do the job at the end of the day. Also just so you know doorman are nice people, if something happened to you during your night you would expect them to help you out.

One thing, doorman do have the right not to give explanation for there actions.

To be fair i was having a really good time, however I was grabbed by two bouncers without warning and pushed down the stairs which seriously hurt my ankle.

I was there for my 22nd birthday but they didnt make any effort and i was randomly grabbed my two bouncers and pushed about.

Dont go here if you want to have a good time. They are awful

Went to Embargo on a Thursday. It was a last minute thing at about midnight, so we weren't on the guest-list and by the time we got there, the place was heaving.

We did have a wait outside (if your going - guest-list to be on the safe side) but it was worth it.

Although I found the door staff on their usual stereotypical power trip, once you're inside, the atmosphere is amazing. The DJ was banging out great tunes, a good mix of dance, hip hop, chart music, something for everyone.

OK, so the general clientele is the rah-rah-parting-so-far-on-the-side-of-my-head-it's-just-above-my-ear crowd, but Embargo is not about posing. Party goers come to this spot to have a good time!

Drinks were reasonably priced (I got a Mojito for £5!) and very yum. The terrace was packed, which was a bit uncomfortable, and someone did manage to donk a massive glass on the top of my head (by accident) which hurt quite a bit, but didn't spoil my evening.

Filled with beautiful people having some mid week fun, I will definitely be gracing Embargo's doorway again very soon!

For somebodys birthday we ended up in the VIP room which was great and had good drinks.

However they tried to give out table to somebody else half way through the night.

Then as we were walking out at the end of the night my girlfriend had liquid from a rubbish bag dripped on her dress down the stairs as they were following us out - very disgusting.

When asking the bouncer to speak to a manager or someone was very very unprofessional.

When we got irate, after spending a fair bit of money there 6 bouncers came and we violent with us - only 4 of whom would show us their id cards after they had chased some of us a block down the street!!! incredible!

I think the newly refurbished Embargo 59 is the best club on the Kings Road by a long way.

I was lucky enough to get an invite to Embargo this week and I have to say there's a new kid on the block for the Kings Road set...or should I say a new, stylish, grown up and cool, kid on the block.

So, lets talk about my two favourite things, rum and dancing. The drinks menu was impressive, I would advise kicking off with a red berry rum martini, now I've given you a tip you have at least 20mins to decide on your second choice and believe me it will take you that long to get through the list (lots of goodies on offer).

Dancing, well what I can say, except, multicoloured lit up dance floor...need I say more?!

OK, I shall, it's fun, the music was a cool, old school, hip, vibe, something for everyone, not sure if that's a constant, but I hope so as it could have been my iPod playlist - except it was put together in a much better flow.

OK, one final note and this could be the clincher - the outside terrace. A haven for the long lost smoker or a relaxed place to chill, cool off and energize before hitting the sparkly dance floor.

Have a great one!
