Embargo is a wonderful club, offering a glowing atmosphere and groundbreaking music. It is a privilege to mix with those who frequent it - I feel really proud to be able to live in the same city. The establishment offers fairly priced drinks, too. I went there last night with the most gorgeous lady, whom I've courted for some time now, and we enjoyed a really delicious bottle of red. It went by the name of "Jacob's Creek" if I recall correctly, a real bargain at only £20 for the bottle. As for the beer - again, a joy to drink. Sensibly priced, at £4.15 for around half a pint, with each beer presented in its very own bottle, rather than a glass from which thousands have guzzled in the past. I would highly recommend this discotheque to anyone who's looking for a genuinely enjoyable end to their night. It's worth going sooner rather than later though... I've heard talk of a pheasant-shooting garden opening in the area soon, and it's sure to become a good deal busier if that goes ahead.
I thought Embargo was really intimate. I particularly liked the VIP section which gives you some privacy and you can have a nice chat. It really showed me what Chelsea is about, class. The music was very much of today, so no complaints there either. I would definitely recommend anyone looking for either a good night out on the pull or just a right laugh to check Embargo's out.
Emabargo must be one of the worst venues in London, let alone Chelsea. They seem to assume that because of the postcode they don't need to make an effort. The decor is horrible and if I can tell that with the lights dimmed I'd hate to see how it looked with the lights on. The Embargo door staff were very friendly if a little unprofessional. However, the bar staff were downright incompetent.
I ordered two drinks on three different occasions and got charged three different prices. If this is what Chelsea has to offer I think I'll just stick to Brixton.
Embargo is a dive, the £10.00 fee takes the piss and the drink prices, at £4.00 for a 250ml beer, are extortionate. The gents floor was covered in, well, toilet mess, too. You have to be obliterated to go to Embargo, in which case all of the above seems far more acceptable.
Embargo is perfect for a great night out. It's well worth the £10.00 entry fee and the drinks weren't too steep either.
Having been to Embargo, I would say it's lucky some of us can rely on daddy's trust fund! I enjoyed this club, even though the music was cheesy. The atmosphere was fabulous and the people were great. So, it's obviously just for Sloanes then. If you're not a Sloane then could you please not insult us as I'm sure we could say tres much about you! Don't stereotype, you could end up looking like the bad party so go and see for yourself.
I went, quite out of the blue, to a live music night at Embargo the other week featuring a bunch of good looking blokes playing funky music. The drinks were cheap (2-3 quid), entry was a fiver and the clientele, although a bit Sloaney, were good fun and everyone was in high spirits. I think the night has moved to Thursday now due to its success but I don't know for sure. I'd check this place out before being brainwashed by these pretty scathing reviews.
Looks like things haven't changed in a year since the last review was made. To be fair, if you've been out for a meal or out for drinks in the Fulham Broadway / King's Road vicinity, you're not exactly spoilt for choice when it comes to a late night venue. Again, the door staff are very friendly (perhaps because it was relatively early or because there were 7 of us). The £10 cover charge is pricey considering the venue is only open until 2am...even on a Saturday! Nonetheless, we were planning on having a good time. Once inside we checked in our coats, jackets etc. Here was the 1st real irritation as the policy is £1 PER ITEM. So if you're a female with an overcoat, pashmina scarf and large bag, expect to have already paid £13 before even getting your lips wet on a drink. Which brings me on to irritation number 2. I can understand China White charging £14 for 2 mixers; you're in a classy venue, the barmen pour generous measures and you're surrounded by beautiful people. Here however, you have none of that. From 12am onwards, it gets pretty busy and there just isn't enough staff to cope with the demanding, pretentious, credit card waving Chelsea set who all seem to know each other (perhaps they're all inter-related?). The music is dire...cheese isn't the word I'd use...perhaps mouldy Roquefort would be more suitable. Just as well the 'DJ' on this particular evening didn't double up as a barman as his mixing was awful. We finished our drinks and left by 12.30am.
In summary, if you have more cash than sense and have no musical taste...walk right in. If you're normal, give this place a very wide berth. I'll only come back here if they pay me and let me shoot the DJ!
