The ViewLondon Review

A refreshing oasis of West End style clubbing brought to the outskirts of Notting Hill, Envy offers an unpretentiously stylish experience away from the crowds of the centre.

The Venue
The recent renovation designed to turn this venue into a private members club has resulted in the creation of three bars with varied themes, although it doesn’t quite manage to recreate the aesthetically pleasing dazzle and luxury of other more established spots. As you enter Envy you are greeted by the bright main bar named Aura, dominated by raised DJ decks in the centre and radiant white surroundings. The bigger area on the second floor, called Desire, offers plenty of comfortable seating, a spacious dancefloor and a Boudoir section ideal for birthday parties and private hire. The top floor is, of course, the cozily furnished VIP and members area intended to represent Vanity, with attractive light installations and sunken champagne tables.

The Atmosphere
Although Envy is well off the beaten track for glamorous West End clubbing, it offers a friendly party vibe with welcoming and helpful staff and a touch of class without the extra added self-important attitude. The presence of enough breathing space ensures visitors spend more time dancing and having fun rather than posing and trying to protect their drinks from spilling. However, don’t expect to get a table with just a single cocktail in your hand – even if no one else is sitting there.

The Music
With a separate DJ on each floor, you can start with the latest in sleek and funky house tunes downstairs, then move on to the old school party classics and RnB on the second floor - sure to keep everyone dancing all night. The music in the VIP room depends on the night and the crowd, but you’ll always end up grooving to the best new sounds. The DJs good taste helps Envy stand a shoulder above the other venues in the surrounding area, living up to the expectations of a private members club.

The Drink
There’s a great selection of spirits and the usual selection of cocktails, with both Champagne and vodka brands available to order at your table – just beware, drinks come with a high standard of mixing but at members club prices. However, the Magnum bottles of Moet are available for more reasonable prices than at West End clubs, allowing the difference to go towards ordering a licensed cab to take you safely home.

The Last Word
Envy is a good place for the locals to enjoy a tasteful night out in a fresh and fashionable venue; it is ideal for private hire, shoots and special parties, but is not worth the trip if you have to travel far to get there.
