Not impressed with Essence. I thought it was supposed to be a bit more upmarket than the other clubs in Kingston but same old chavvy staff and rude bouncers. I went outside quietly to make a phone call and told the female bouncer, 'I just want to make a phone call,' she muttered 'over there' and vaguely pointed her finger to the area I was supposed to stand. So I did just that and started making my call. Next thing I know she nudges me and rudely tells me to stand 'over there' (like I'm a school child being told off by my teacher). There was obviously confusion as to where I should stand but she shouted 'I won't let you back in if you don't stand in the right place.' Complete over reaction I thought. (Can't help but feel they're just waiting to kick you out for the slightest thing.)

Considering I've paid £4 to get in, paid for a rather expensive drink, I don't really wish to be spoken to like I'm a child. I've come to enjoy myself, not be told off and frightened to even go outside and make a phone call. They need to remember I am paying good money to be there and if people like me weren't there, the club would be closed and she wouldn't even have a job! I'd like to be spoken to with a little respect. Not like some animal at the zoo!

One of the barmen charged me over £7 for a vodka and coke, he told me it was a double, and so I asked him for a single, he said we don't do single!! (What? ) So I asked for a diet coke and so he charged me the correct money for the vodka and coke in the end. (So watch it when you're there, think he was trying to pocket the cash)

Although, I did speak to the manager about the rude bouncer and he was very nice and polite, which is how all staff should speak to their customers, including the bouncers! If they want a nice clientele they need to be careful how they speak to their customers. I won't be going back, too frightened too in case I stand in the wrong inch of space.
