Worlds will be colliding at the 2008 Ether Festival, which fuses music and technology into weeks of amazing performances. Filled with shows by underground artists (and a couple famous faces or two), Ether is guaranteed to be a mecca for all club kids, tech heads and music fanatics.
Past eventsPrevious Ether incarnations have seen artists like Kraftwerk, Cornelius, Dizzee Rascal and Jonny Greenwood from Radiohead try their hand at mixing up their stuff with a combination of visual effects.
Ether 2008This year’s lineup includes a wide variety of acts from all different genres. At the 2008 Ether Festival you can feast your eyes and ears on the likes of Harmonia, a band formed from the ex members of Kraftwerk, Neu! and Cluster, and Current 93, OM and Baby Dee, who will have Marc Almond appearing as a special guest. There’ll also be a performance by the London Sinfonietta who will play a world premiere of work by composer Thomas Ades and video artist Tal Rosner.
Goldfrapp at EtherThe highlight of the 2008 festival is the performance by Goldfrapp, who are launching their brand new album Seventh Tree live at the Royal Festival Hall. Moving on from the glitter ball glamour of their 2005 album Supernature, Alison Goldfrapp and the boys are back with a new dreamlike sound with a delightfully sinister undertone.
Beatbox ConventionFollowing on from the success of previous years, the Ether festival beatbox convention is back once more. Join the best human beatboxers around for two days of performances, workshops, seminars and open mic sessions over Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th April. The Human Beatbox Convention is free to attend.
Musical theatreAn unusual event for any festival, music or otherwise, the performance from Pere Ubu is sure to be another hit for Ether Festival goers. The world's only expressionist rockband, Pere Ubu takes to the Southbank Centre stage to present the musical theatre of Ubu Roi. A nineteenth century by Alfred Jarry, this is the theatrical precursor to Absurdist, Dada and Surrealist art movements.
The 2008 Ether Festival runs from 19th to 28th April 2008 at the Southbank Centre. Tickets cost from £8.00 to £30.00. Nearest tube: Waterloo. For a full listing of event details or to book tickets for the Ether festival 2008, click on the link below.
