The ViewLondon Review

Review byKehryse Vanessa Johnson09/07/2008
Eve may have been created from Adam but don’t underestimate her for a second - she has a Central London world of her own and you’ll want to be a part of it.

The Venue
Situated just off the bustling shopping strip that is Regent Street, Eve Club is small in size but mammoth in personality. Providing you make it past the lengthy queue, snappy doormen and killer-steep steps to its interior, you’ll embark upon an intimate space filled with beautiful trimmings.

Along the left wall there’s a striking plastic ‘ice’ sculptured bar brightly lit by a multitude of fibre optic colours, with a glittered surface and potted plants. Overhead hangs a set of delicate fairylights and three large bordered mirrors stare across at you from behind. Beyond this haloed bar sits a lush VIP seating area known as The Garden of Eden, which is slightly closed off from the rest of the club by throne-like purple chairs, cloaked in an authentic forbidden apple tree. There is a smattering of low tables elsewhere around the club, squishy seating and even a velvet alcove – table bookings require a minimum spend of £400 – so reserve early for this additional comfort.

Along further still and up a small set of stairs is the glass dancefloor, illuminated like that of ‘70s disco but surrounded by shimmering shards of glass dotting the walls and ceiling. The whole place is awash by a scarlet palette and Eve memorabilia, which sets the scene with an illicit mystique.

The Atmosphere
Eve drips with an almost tangible youthful desire. The fresh faced crowd fall between the ages of 21 and 30 and, judging by their luscious attire, there’s no doubt they see the club as a reason to make an effort. With good looking bar staff, mirrors everywhere you turn, and a glow in the air you’d better show up feeling one in a million to fit in. But despite the obvious beauty of the room and those within it, nobody feels the need to prop up the bar or line the walls for too long – opting out of the posy crowd-watching opportunity in favour of some genuine free fall partying. This is the ideal place for girlie nights out, to catch up with friends and to mix it up but not to pull – you’ll leave with the same people you arrived with, and that makes a nice change.

The Music
The Eve Club DJ knows his stuff with a box full of funky house, RnB and hip hop magic tricks; but appears to cater mostly for the girls – of which there are many – with slinky, sexy tracks to get them all shimmying in circles around their handbags. Very few guys make it onto the dancefloor without female company.

The Drink
A night spent at the bar in Eve Club won’t be as painful as many bars in the upmarket locale, with anything alcoholic starting at around £5. The broad spectrum of lovingly prepared cocktails will tempt you at £8 each, or perhaps you’re more of a spirits kind of reveller in which case you’ll be spoilt for choice at £10 per double shot and mixer. For those with a view to really splash out, Eve boasts an impressive selection of vintage Champagnes and deluxe spirits – the sky’s the limit (or your overdraft is!).

The Last Word
Eve Club offers a break from reality with its interesting decor. An attractive but laid back crowd removes the meat market element so prevalent at clubs across Central London, making it the ideal spot for a fun night out with friends.
