Calling all sports fans! A pub that caters to your every sporting desire, has a late licence and is so close to public transport you can get as drunk as you like without getting lost. Enter the Famous 3 Kings.

The Venue
An easy find as it’s right next door to West Kensington tube station. The pub looks grand, intriguing and visually unusual from the outside. Its large domed glass front makes it looks like you are entering another dimension and as you come inside, the mystery continues. Your first impressions are that the pub is a strange size, but as you wander around and explore, you find that it is a maze of fantastic mezzanines.

If you didn’t know that the Famous 3 Kings was a sports pub when you first get there, it becomes immediately obvious once you’re inside. The bar directly in front of you will have locals glued to the small projector screen shouting and gesticulating about their teams. There are also sports paraphernalia on the walls, 13 screens showing you whatever sport you fancy with channels from all over the world. They even announce which games will be in which rooms. Brilliant! It’s a sports fan’s dream venue.

Exposed brickwork gives the pub a homely feeling as does the alcoves with supremely comfy leather sofas, which also offer privacy if you do want to have a quiet drink away from the crowd. Downstairs are pool tables, a second bar and a huge projector screen. Elsewhere there is an old school Space Invaders game, air hockey and a video jukebox to keep punters amused.

The Atmosphere
People come here to watch sport and enjoy of few beers in the process. Before any of the games start, a few people arrive for a post-work drink, but as soon as the volume is turned up so people can hear the match, they quickly retreat and go elsewhere. Expect to find a lot of men who are passionate about sport and will shout about it.

The Food
As the Famous 3 Kings is essentially catering for a male crowd, the menu is geared towards their primal calorie-laden needs. You will struggle to find something healthy on here but, when you’re watching sports, you want to chow down on wings and steak instead of fiddly gastropub attire.

The prices are very reasonable with starters including breaded mushrooms (£3.75), prawn cocktail (£3.95) and chicken goujons (£5.25). They do a selection of sharing platters which go down a treat during peak and important matches. There are dishes like the chicken and ribs combo (£9.45), nachos (£4.75) and ribs for £9.45.

If you want something quick and easy, a sandwich is your best be, starting at £3.75 for a chip or fish finger butty. Other fillings include cheese and pickle (£4.65), bacon and brie (£4.95), tomato and brie (£4.65), tuna melt (£4.65) or sausage and onion (£4.65). You can add chips for £1.95 and soup for £4.65.

The best deal they have is definitely the two meals for £10 which includes a surprisingly tasty Hunters chicken, a tender chicken breast drenched in BBQ sauce with bacon and melted cheese on top. Another dish on this menu which is well worth a nibble is the spicy beef chilli with basmati rice. The chilli has a strong flavour to it and not too overwhelmingly spicy; the portion is just right, leaving you nicely full as opposed to bloated. Other meals include spicy bean chilli, fish and chips, ham with free range eggs and chips, chicken tikka masala, lasagne and mushroom and four cheese pasta alfredo. If you fancy a dessert (all at £3.45), there is sticky toffee pudding, ice cream, apple pie, chocolate and orange meltdown and baked vanilla cheesecake.

The Drink
Being a sporty pub, the main focus is on beer and cheap booze. Pints start at £2.90 mark and include Peroni, Heineken, Amstel, Brains, IPA, London Pride, Fosters, Kronenbourg, Guinness and Strongbow.

On the rare occasion when a lady might enter the premises, there is an average looking wine menu. Their house wine is Oliver & Greg’s Chardonnay or Merlot for £3.25 per small glass, £4.40 per large glass and £11.95 a bottle, which is a good deal. However, if you want something that tastes a bit better then the Casillero del Diablo Sauvignon Blanc or Carmenere is a reasonable £15.45 a bottle.

For celebrations there’s Lanson Black Label (£31.95) or Mumm Cordon Rouge (£36.95). The McGuigan Collection sparkling rose (£21.95) and the Seppelt Great Western Brut (£22.95) are a great choices if you’re feeling the pinch.

The Last Word
For a sports pub it ticks all the boxes and is certainly popular with locals and people who want to see every match that’s on simultaneously. If you get bored of one you can simply walk to another part of the pub and watch something else. However, if you don’t like sport, then there’s no point crossing the threshold.
