I was absolutely disgusted by the rude doorman at this club, I promote west end clubs myself so am well aware of the rules and costs.I turned up for a friends birthday party at 10.45 being told I was on his 'VIP' list which means I was entitled to a q jump. On arrival I was told very rudely by the head doorman that there was no such q and to join the back of what looked like a q 50 people deep. I promptly found the door picker who is supposed to be in charge (the doorman are only there to enforce the door pickers decisions). He ticked me and my friend off the 'VIP' list, and told me to wait a couple of minutes. During those 10 minutes the following happened:Two girls were standing at the front of the q quite happily and the head doorman turned round to them and said 'are you having a good night then ladies?' to which they replied yes, only to have him retort 'you won’t be in a minute when you find out you have to pay, there are no comps left!' He was deliberately trying to antagonise people!!!After the door picker came back and asked the doorman to let us through, the doorman replied by saying 'what makes them so special!' He then very aggressively shouted at the door picker and said we had to go to the back of the q and everyone had to pay from then onwards. I ended up walking away and going to China White, but I must say – I will never go to this club again, I wouldn’t give the doorman the satisfaction of being so rude again.Thank god I didn’t have more people with me, otherwise this would have caused great embarrassment - if I have to q then I am more than happy to do so and will ensure I get there a lot earlier. To be told I was entitled to q-jump and free entry and then to be treated the way we were was unacceptable.
Where to start? What a foul mouthed agressive, disgusting bunch of people and that was just the bouncers and a pathetic Chinese girl who couldnt speak English!
The drinks averaged £10.50 for a single shot and there is a 15% handling charge for debit and credit cards! I run my own business and we dont charge these ridiculous rates. The cheapest 'Tesco' wine was £70 and the attitude inside was foul. You cant even go outside after paying £20 for an entrance fee which was agreed at £10 for a cigarette.
It was an overly pretentious place; one girl decided to dance the whole evening looking at herself in the mirror! No celebs, not that I care, but only a bunch of idiots.
I really would not recommend this place to my worst enemy!
The bouncers are rude and unprofessional. They made up excuse after excuse not to let me in, while I was on the guest list and 8 of my friends were already inside, having paid the £20 cover charge.
You see they are frustrated the kind of people who abuse their right of decision to waste people's nights out.
The only thing I didnt do right: I followed my friends through the open red cord (open by one of the bouncers) after they had come out to greet me. When the bouncers called me I came back to them without any rebellion and they told me to leave because I was drunk (I had had two beers)...
There was no queue at all either (at 11.30pm, wow this place really is popular!!!!
This club has the rudest doormen and staff I have ever seen anywhere.
Stay away don't risk being embarrassed in front of your friends and other guests. Terrible terrible experience I had with the doorman in charge. I won't being going their ever again, and would advise you all to do the same.
For £20 entry fee, I expected alot more than this. As others have said, it takes forever to get in, and once I was in, it was a major disappointment. Drinks were expensive and music was lousy and the atmosphere was ordinary.
I would strongly recommend you spend your money and time elsewhere
Entry was supposedly Free before 11.30pm so it was disappointing to join the queue at 10.30pm and to be let in at just after 11.35pm and to have to pay the £20 entrance fee 'for getting there late'! Methinks this was not a coincidence as the queue hardly moved during the hour we stood in it so that was our introduction to this downmarket club! Drinks were extortionate at over £10 for each and to add insult to injury we were told in an extremely rude way to move from the table we were drinking at 'immediately' so someone else could use it! This place is absolutely disgusting in the way it treats its clients and we and our group of friends will not be returning. Quite honestly, a night out in Watford would have been more exciting than this place! I hope the owners read the reviews Funky Buddha gets. The staff were rude and affected...what a joke this place is. I would not recommend it to anyone unless they like getting ripped off to the hilt and being treated like ****!This place has got it so wrong and will surely go bust if they continue their rip off antics!
I was really looking forward to finishing off our crimbo party at FB. What a let down, the bouncer made us stand in the queue for what felt like eternity as it was too busy to let us in - at 11.30??? when we enterted the club it was empty. The drinks are way over priced and the music was dire. I would never waste my £20 paying to get in there again! ...and girlies - there is zero talent in there too!
Where do I start. Absolutely disgraceful. I reserved a table at funky budha for a party of 20. On our arrival found that the tables were tucked away in the darkest corner of the club behind the bar. We could not believe it. We then were introduced to our hostess, who carried the sourest face I have ever seen. When we thought things could not get any worse, we ordered a bottle of vodka. Now I don’t mind paying high prices for good quality, but when you get charged £180 a bottle, then do not walk out with something you can purchase at Tesco’s for £9. You guessed it they served the cheapest most rubbish vodka. This was the final straw. The place is tiny, the manager and hostesses clearly do not understand customer service, the drinks highly over priced, Don’t bother. funkybuddha is not worth it.
This was the first and last time that I will be attending the funky buddha. I went with a group of friends to celebrate a series of birthdays. We waited for appox. 1 hr to get in (I dont understand clubs need to have the biggest queues - maybe its a man thing). Anyway when inside we manage to find an area where we could but our handbags and our overpriced drinks - after about 2 hours of dancing to poor music and trying to make the most of it a very small and overcrowded club, a member of staff quite abruptly asked us to move - with no explaination/reason - just MOVE. When we challenged this a series of very manly men entered looking for what I thought was a bomber but in fact is was us. Unbelieveable you may think but true. Next thing we knew we were all excorted to the curb... Never Never again.
I've been to Funky quite a few times now, the last time was 3 weeks ago. This so called refurb....erm, no! Doesn't really look that much different apart from it looks slightly cleaner. What has happened is that the music has completely and totally deteriorated. Its rubbish, especially for the £15-£20 fee on the door. In addition to this, the drinks prices are extortionate. Yes, you do see Z-List celebs in there but as for a good night out with quality music, no.
Awesome!!! Went there last friday after they had apparently spent 1/2 million on a refurb?!?! Money well spent.
Fantastic lighting and wicked new water features, and they finally found some decent DJs!! Blagged into the VIP room where I found some gorgeous chicks and had a great night. Def going back.
I think that funkybuddha is overrated and overpriced. Nice decor but smaller than I expected. Not sure what the hype's about!
Absolute rubbish. For all the hype, Funkybuddha doesn't put out the goods. The door staff were blatantly rude, the crowd was full of randoms (saw only one good looking girl the whole night), the music was shite, and the drinks were ridiculously priced. 25 pounds for 3 single GandTs, 35 pounds for two shots and two single drinks. Plus 20 pound on the door. So in 30 minutes I'd burnt through £80. A joke. And this isn't coming from a disgruntled person who can never get into clubs. I'm never going back. Do yourself a favour and head to Pangea down the road instead. Now that is a cool club!
We went to funkybuddha and we were on the guestlist. We waited about 45 minutes and it was raining and the people at the door were very, very bad and after all that we were told that we were not allowd in even if we were on the guestlist because we needed to be on the members guestlist!
I have been to funkybuddha before and it was not that good, but at the same time it is not bad. I'd like to tell anyone who wants to visit this place that you can spend the night in better places.
What a let down! I couldn't wait to go and now really wish I hadn't! funkybuddha is over hyped, over priced, with woeful music, overcrowded, and full of people bouncing all over the place. funkybuddha is not a club, it's a children's playground.
I went to funkybuddha a few weeks ago and it was one of the best nights I have ever had out in London. For anyone to go to it is a brilliant night out and I think anyone would enjoy it! I would recommend anyone to go! Thanks funkybuddha for a great night out.
What could have been a lively, fun and funky night was all but ruined by the desperate funkybuddha. The £20.00 entrance charge seemed a lot on the way in and pure robbery an hour later. The venue was packed full to the rafters of Christmas party people noticeably gagging for a tune to get the party going.
Alas no, as this would probably get in the way of the DJs raving. The funkybuddha bar staff cared more about drinking shots with pretty females than serving however when one barman clicked his fingers repeatedly to get my attention the proverbial back of the camel was broken.
I went to funkbuddha last night for a friends 21st. For a £20.00 entry fee you expect a club located in Mayfair to have some class. funkybuddha has none. There was nothing remotely classy about the club itself, it could be any club in any random town in England.
The music was a shockingly bad mixture of mainly five year old RnB, and the DJ was useless, managing to not only select seriously poor songs but also bust up the sound system twice. On complaining to a representative, he just said complacently, oh they'll fix it in a bit.
I am more than happy to splash the cash when you get quality but this place is a joke. The clientele dressed in jeans and trainers. If you want a good night out, dont go here.
I went to funkybuddha for my birthday weekend. My friend and I were in the queue and we were stood next to these other snotty girls. The lady on the door said to us are you altogether? The girls looked at the lady mortified as if to say, As if! I just ignored her cos I wasn't not going to go in cos of some stuck up cow.
Anyway, we got in to funkybuddha and ordered some drinks. The bar man was exteremely rude - he was looking at money like it wasn't real!
Although the club was packed the atmosphere was dead. No good vibes and full of young rich kids spending mummy and daddy's money!
I had a great night at funkybuddha although it was really busy. Although I had to wait for a long time outside I was still treated fairly by the door girl. She seemed really busy but took time to explain to us the situation which was that funkybuddha was packed.
The music was great too. Although the til girl was a little rude I will be back for more.
The lady on the door is by far the rudest person in the world. She has a stick wedged so far up her arse I'm suprised she doesn't need help walking. My friend wanted to go to funkybuddha and organised a guestlist and was told to join the queue. We waited one and half hours in the cold, got to the front of the queue, then the lady said she had to give priority to those joining tables and that the guestlist was now closed.
Having been to funkybuddha before, the club is distinctly average inside. The music is below par and the drinks are overpriced. The atmosphere in most other Mayfair clubs is a lot better too. Save your time, money and energy by going somewhere else.
I went to funkybuddha on a Saturday night a couple of weeks ago. I had a great night. I was not on the guest list and was greeted by a friendly female door picker, and she allowed us through with no problem. The door man seemed friendly and I loved the music. I will definitely go to funkybuddha again.
Went to funkybuddha a couple of weeks ago, on a friday night, on the recommendation of a friend. Have to say that I don't agree with most of the reviews on here. The door staff at funkybuddha were really helpful, and even though there was some trouble with the list we were on (two girls) we were let through almost straight away.
Also drinks not too bad in price. Although would have to say that it didnt live up to the likes of pangea music-wise, was still a really good night.
I loved funky buddha. I thought the crowd was funky and the music brilliant. I was greeted by a really friendy female door picker with long hair who was helpful and did not have any attitude which some door pickers. She was glamorous and welcoming.
The door men were silent and non threatning. The drinks cool and refreshing and the atmosphere lively. I will definitely be going to funky buddha again.
I live in Scotland have been to funkybuddha several times on a Tuesday night and I have to say it's been the best nights out I've had. It's alot better than the likes of China White and Embassy.
The Bouncers on the door were exceptionally friendly and the bar staff couldn't do enough for you. The music was great and we were lucky enough to get into the VIP section to get a table. I would definitely recommend funkybuddha to anyone for a brilliant night out. Can't wait to go back.
Went to funkybuddha on a Tuesday so I didn't really expect it to be busy. When we got there the music was too relaxed at first and you couldn't dance at all - then lots of people walked in, mainly footballers. Everyone was having a laugh and that's always good to see. Would definitely go to funkybuddha again!
After going to funkybuddha on a Tuesday and being quite disappointed, I was not sure about going on Saturday but I was pleasantly surprised. There were no problems getting in as we were on comps, the staff were friendly, music was an amazing mix of RnB, Hip Hop and Funky House and the crowd was classy and friendly. The VIP area wasn't that special but all in all, funkybuddha was a very good night.
Having read the reviews of funkybuddha I had mixed expectations but it turned out to be a fantastic Saturday night. The entry was expensive but worth it due to the good time had by all 7 of us. The music was a mix; every tune danceable to and the drinks were expensive but expected whilst the crowd was friendly, unpretentious & non-sleazy. Bar staff were great too...I can't really fault funkybuddha.
Went to funkybuddha for my birthday a few Saturdays ago and tried not to be put off by all the bad reviews that I had read but oh my god they were soooo right! The only good thing about it was the music, funkybuddha's very small and dingy, not worth going to at all, seriously dont bother, there are so many more better clubs in London than this. I don't know where everyone saw all the so- called friendly staff because we didn't see any. Dont waste your time or money at funkybuddha!
I was invited to Funky Buddha by a promotion company, it was my first time there and I've never had such a good time. The drinks were expensive but the people were great and music was wicked. I hope to visit Funky Buddha again.
As three fun loving girls from Scotland we entered Funky Buddha with high expectations, having already been to the likes of Chinawhite. We were not disappointed!
We were there untill closing (in fact I think the bouncers thought we were never leaving), we had a great time and will certainly be back!
Drinks at Funky Buddha aren't cheap but then where in London are they! We found everyone was up for a laugh and we had more fun than we care to, or can in fact remember! I think, like any night, it is what you make it, and we certainly had fun!
I can't believe how great Funky Buddha is. The staff are awesome, especially the waitresses. There is a gorgeous Italian girl and a beautiful Russian girl. Of course the other waitresses at Funky Buddha are beautiful too. I will definitely be coming back!
I went to Funky Buddha for my 30th birthday and had a really good night out. We had a table booked which was probably better value for money. The staff were really nice.
We spent about £60 each at Funky Buddha which I think is quite reasonable for a night out in London which is always expensive. Only two ladies toilets though - they need to add more!
Don't believe all the negative reviews of Funky Buddha, they're probably just jealous that they couldn't have as much fun as everyone else in what truly is, an amazing venue!
Super-cool decor and fun music and neither me or my friends found the bouncers or staff at Funky Buddha any different to other London venues. It is a very fun, chic club with both intimate and open areas.
We had an amazing night and it is definitely worth going to!
I managed to get on the guest list to Funky Buddha as my partner and I stay at the Westbury Hotel from time to time.
I was very impressed. I had a great time. Funky Buddha had nice people, and the security were very unobtrusive, but you still felt they had a handle on all that was going on!
Ps The barmaid was exceptional, professionally speaking, of course!
Great venue, great girls, and great music. Everytime I've been to Funky Buddha the bar staff, especially the Brazilian and Italian guys, have been a laugh. And the girls have been friendly - in fact, so friendly they seem to wake up the next morning in your bed.
I read some of the other Funky Buddha reviews with confusion as the club is truly five stars. Maybe they work at China White.
Guys and girls trust a real clubber, Funky Buddha is awesome, trendy and 100% the bomb!
I went to Funky Buddha last Thursday (September 15th) and can only praise both the venue and the staff. From the moment we arrived we were greeted by the doorman with an umbrella as it was raining slightly. They were polite and welcoming. Tom who had the guestlist was quick and responsive and we did not have to wait at all.
Funky Buddha has changed since we were last there and so much for the better. They have created more space and an actual dance floor which was so missing previously. The music was fab, the bar staff were fab and everyone had a superb time. I highly, highly recommend a visit. If you don't like paying London prices on a night out - simply stay at home or go somewhere else! I shall go back!
Funky Buddha on saturday night was brilliant, great music and great atmosphere. While the guys on the door were inviting and pleasant I only wish the girls taking our cash could have been. Being greeted, or should I say snubbed, by stuck up, pretentious cashiers was hardly the start to our Funky Buddha experience we were looking for, but we didn't let them dampen our spirits.
Drinks were pricey but no more than you'd expect from a club of such calibre.
Definitely worth it.
Even though we had sorted the guest list at the Funky Buddha way in advance my friends and I were still treated with almost pure contempt by the jumped up bouncers. They actually do think they're celebrities, plus you have to watch people go straight in who would have looked cool five years ago!
The Funky Buddha is quite small but the music was very good. It's £20 for two drinks though so leave the student card at home.
It's a great club for a one off I guess, but there are many, many better places in London.
The Funky Buddha has a name for itself but there were far too many people just going there to be 'seen'.
Funky Buddha made a big impression on me. One early summer Saturday night after dinner with a Eurotrash Monaco based film producer and his henchmen at the newly revamped Mortons, I strolled around Berkeley Square and into Funky Buddha with my very attractive Pilates teacher (female) and we proceeded to shake our pre-menopausal asses to the Gorillaz. I was decked out in Cavalli, the crowd was jumping and I tripped and fell into the arms of a 6ft 1" rippling hunk of French male perfection young enough to be a child of mine. I am still enjoying his occasional attention and he is still enjoying the trappings of my ex-husband's success. That's the sort of club Funky Buddha is and quite frankly I wish there were more of them - enjoy!
I've now been going to Funky Buddha on Thursday night for about 6 weeks in a row. I must say I am hooked. Even when the club is not as busy as some weeks, there is always guaranteed to be a friendly atmosphere.
Everyone is so nice and it seems like the night goes on forever. The music is good and the DJs are lovely. I met lots of new friends and it is the highlight of my week. I go every Thursday, it's pumping considering it's during the week. Just ignore the negative reviews as they are from last year.
The comment about bad dress - I think it's cool that you can wear what you like, as there are people dressed casually and also people who go out of their way to look sophisticated. However, there is a 'no trainers' rule. The door people seem nice to me and the bar staff are very friendly. I myself go clubbing a lot and I enjoy every week.
Went to Funky Buddha a couple of nights ago and had a fab time. We found that all the staff and management were very helpful and friendly and the music was brillant. It is a fantastic place to party!
Went to Funky Buddha a few nights ago and I have to say had the best night ever...My friend and I had such a laugh. China White has the edge but this is a close second. At first we thought it was quiet but then it got packed and music was wicked. We met some nice men too...really rich and generous which was good because we only had enough for 4 rounds of drinks because 2 vodka and diet cokes were £15 anyway we expected high prices. It didnt matter though we still got drunk, as spirits are not measured in there so get a huge measure. We danced the night away and went home well impressed. Door staff are so nice...and really friendly and man with guest list was a total darling. Go if you can..you wont be dissapointed!
I went to Funky Buddha for a friend's birthday and it was the best club night I've ever been to. The music was spot on - all the best commercial hip hop that you really want to dance to, the DJ wasn't trying to be clever he just wanted us all to have a good time, and I have never danced so much. I agree with another reviewer about the staff, they were very friendly, especially that girl in the ladies! Yes, the drinks were ridiculously expensive but it was a birthday night out so I didn't care. As for whether the people were beautiful/not beautiful -what does that matter? I can honestly say I didn't notice anyone but the friends I was with, I was having far too much fun!
I went to Funky Buddha last night. You have to be on the guest list to get in and it costs £20. It was surprisingly ordinary, despite the hype but everyone was polite which was quite a nice thing. Very young crowd, very small club. You can wear jeans btw! More females than males.
Drinks were expensive - too horrendous to quote! You'll find a price list on the tables. We went to a pub in Dover Street beforehand and tanked up! Music was alright (old and new rnb/soul/funk/rap) but we left when the same tunes were being played for the second time running. I wouldn't say it was that funky to be calling itself 'the Funky Buddha'.We noticed that the tables were from IKEA and were disappointed not to see any c/z list celebrities there!!
But if you have the opportunity, I would recommend going there as it was alright.
I thought all the staff there were rude and the club was full of people who are up themselves. Only good thing is we got well drunk. Wouldn't go there again.
Well said to the earlier reviewers.
I'll score a bit higher as I got wrecked and was believing my own hype. How can you feel bad about yourself when the DJ can't mix 2 records together...
Thing is, I've found this at a couple of London's "premier" clubs - I guess the "I ain't sippin if it ain't Cristal" crowd aren't bothered about music so much.
Actually, I've talked myself out of a nicer score - I'd still go again though...just to give 'em a 2nd chance.
went to Funky Buddha at the weekend and one must say, had a blast! Venue was ace, people were friendly and the atmosphere was Wow! Drinks were fab too, reasonably priced..will definitely go back!! Recommend to all!!!
