Such a shame this place has closed down, had some great times there and a truly great venue.
I have never been treated so rudely in my life by any staff. The cover was supposed to be free before 12- we arrived at 11:15 and were told we had to pay.
When we told them we looked on the website and it said free, they said "oh sorry, that is a typo."
The place was empty; what few girls we saw were completely trashy and completely smashed; the staff was rude. Do not go to this club.
went to herbal a while back and had a mixed experience. nothing wrong with staff but found the atmosphere upstaires intimidating and full of ass-grabbing perves. however, when we went back downstairs i had a great time, i was only sorry i wasted so much time upstairs, at least all the idiots were concentrated in one room rather than spread out.
I had a very nice night at Herbal thanx to the Bar staff ; )
The music was alright but still not my kind of stuff (electro & break beats), down stairs was alright in the end of the night though (or maybe it was the drinks).
Door staff were alright not too rude, not so often you'll find friendly door staff these days who are not under the influence of whateva.......
However, smokin area and a/c have to improve!
I think I'll be back, maybe for a D&B night xxx
Upon getting past the no-nonsense, yet surprisingly polite bouncers of Herbal you enter into a hallway. Take the doorway on your right and prepare for your ears to be blown off by the legendary Herbal Soundsystem.
Take the stairs and head towards the chilled out upstairs, which is often banging out the best House tunes. Herbal is what can only be described as the headquarters of underground raving. The venue is tiny, yet the atmosphere is contagious. Apart from 1 or 2 rough looking individuals the crowd is nothing to complain about; everyone is there for their own rave.
The bar is cheaper than you'd expect and service is quick and genial. The toilets leave a little to be desired, but cloakroom is very good. I lost my ticket and still got my coat and bag back without trouble. Each time I have been at Herbal it has been a Drum n Bass night and the big names I have seen there are remarkable for a club the size of Herbal - Grooverider, Pendulum and Fabio were all incredible on Herbal's stunning soundsystem.
The roof terrace was a very good place to chat with the gorgeous girls on offer and have a quick break before going back downstairs to rave on. Herbal is not the best night out in London, but for the size of the venue and the cost to get in (very often it is free before 11 and less than a fiver afterwards!) it is definitely worth a visit.
Went to Herbal last night with some friends.
The staff were friendly and the music was great and we loved the roof terrace.
The only thing that let this place down were the customers! We ended up leaving because of the rude and pushy people around us - I don't mind being bumped into by accident (you can't really avoid that in a busy club), but these people (men as well as women) went out of their way to get us! I won't be going back to this place, and neither will my 10 friends.
Perhaps they should start checking people's ID and bags a little better.
Oh good lord, Herbal is a hole. It has crap music, a vile interior and it looks like no one bothered to redecorate since it was built. There is no air con but one fan. I was revolted by the state of it. It also has a horrible crowd who all looked very young.
The Herbal barmen are okay - polite and prompt. Drinks are £1-2.00 cheaper than the higher end clubs, but still, don't bother with this place
Hospitality is the best D&B night in London for those who love the Hospital sound: Funky and soulful. The crowd is always up for it, the doormen ain't too bad as long as you're behaving yourself.
The only problem is the way that on the busiest nights the condensation (sweat?) starts dripping off the ceiling in the main room. I can see how some people may find that disgusting but everything else is so wicked in this place, you can put up with it.
You don't have to wear a skirt - whoever wrote - that you can wear anything you like.
Hospitality is the best D&B night I have been to in London, especially when you get a live D&B set downstairs.
So give it a go, its really cheap esp for a Friday night in Hoxton.
