The ViewLondon Review
A new club on the former site of Departure, 11AD (pronounced 2AD in case you're wondering) is managed by the people behind Old Street’s Aquarium, and is the latest after hours option in the City, with some parties going on until the next morning.
The Venue
The entrance and foyer act as a waiting area of sorts. With comfy sofas and little noise, it’s the perfect place to chill out for a bit before entering the main club. The décor has an air of sophistication with chaise longues and velvet stools surrounding glass tables in the initial lounge area, and intimate burgundy booths around the dance floor. The sizeable bar is lit up with boudoir-esque colours of pink and purple and colourful lights and strobes beam out from the DJ booth. Arrays of pictures and paintings adorn the walls throughout adding warmth and character.
The Atmosphere
Once the venue fills up the air is full of animated chat, with plenty of flirting and dancing going on. Stools around the bar make it an inviting place to hang out especially since the staff are fun, energetic and very attentive. With ample space to dance as well as well as comfortable seating areas, a fun night can be had late into the night.
The Music
A mix of DJs, including Mr Rogers, deliver lively sets of dance tracks and remixes as well as pop classics. Underground house music events have already taken place here with guest DJs supplying the bleeps and beeps for an in-the-know crowd. In the future there are plans for themed nights taking in hip-hop, 80s and indie, so there will be a lot of opportunities to break out your dancing shoes.
The Drink
While there is no cocktail list as yet, the lovely bartenders are happy to create something bespoke. Alternatively, a spirit and mixer is £4.50 or £7 for a double. A pint of Heineken comes in at £4 (£3.50 if you pay a visit during the day). Feel like a high flier? Go for a whole bottle of spirits. At £100 a pop the Grey Goose vodka is a reliable choice and your party will receive a free seating area and a free choice of mixers to go with it. A rather decent red or white house wine is £5 for a glass and £15 per bottle. For more lavish occasions there’s a beautifully presented bottle of Moet (£65) or even Cristal (£320).
The Last Word
Though IIAD is new and still needs time to develop, it has a lot of potential and a passionate team with great ideas. One to keep an eye on.
