We went to this bar to celebrate my friend 30's on a Friday night. We straight away found that the layout of the bar was not optimum with massive tables close to the bar making the place smaller than it is. What a shame!
The ambiance was good and around 9.30 pm a Dj started playing some tunes that only the over 25's could really enjoy. That was great fun for us.
My main issue with this venue is the price of some drinks. I'm pregnant and therefore don't drink alcohol. I took the habit to exchange my pint of lager for a glass of soda water which most of the time is free but not here. No no no, they charged me £1.60!
I don't mind paying for some water but not that much. Well the second time I complained and they waved this outrageous fee.
My partner was drinking pints of beers which for this area were very reasonably priced £3.80 or something like that. But around 11pm all taps were out of service so impossible to get a pint, left with no other choice than buying small bottles (33cl) at the same price!
It left us with a bitter taste, not sure we'll be back.
I have just spent a disappointing evening at Jerusalem. The start, middle and end were ruined by the abrasive door staff. Once past his rude greeting, you're in and enjoying a drink, only for him to disturb you by physically wedging you between two chunky tables without warning! The evening wouldn't be complete without some verbal, sexist abuse as you leave - a tripple whammy of offensiveness. The toilets smelled really bad too. I would not recommend this bar.
Earlier on tonight I had been queuing outside a club on rathbone place for about 15 minutes only to find when I went in that it wasn't worth the wait. I left sharpish. It was then that I discovered Jerusalem!
You walk down a flight of stairs to what looks like a secret place of fun. Pleasant doorman. How rare is that? Friendly staff that make you feel so welcome. There were a couple of accidents with people knocking over their glasses, but the staff were there cleaning it up in seconds! It was nice to go somewhere in the west end where the DJ played to the crowd and not for himself. Even took requests!
I will definitely be going back
I think Jerusalem gets some bad press and I don't know why! I go to Jerusalem a lot and for one simple reason, its a guaranteed great night out.
The music always rocks, the drinks are great and not too pricey, the service is excellent, some lovely looking barmen, very helpful ladies on the door (rare for a London bar), perfect location and the food isn't bad either. The decor is a little dark but if it changed into a swanky, slick place then it just wouldnt be as good.
I always recommend this bar and have had some amazing nights there.
I love it and will be returning soon.
Went to Jerusalem for lunch the other day The £5 lunch deal was amazing and it was a really relaxing environment. I have previously been there during the evening. It is a really good value for the money and I am never been disappointed.
Worse service ever, super slow, and had my drink stolen by the glass collector. spoke to the manager about it and was told it was my responsibility to look after my drink, even though i saw the guy clearing my drink away. if it was a mixer it wouldn't matter, but i was a double shot of vodka and ice. the decor is really old and the speaker really load for such a small venue.
crappy bar, bad and slow service ... why would anyone go here ?
I've been here three or four times with friends and we usually end up having a decent evening.
We normally go on a week day evening and it's not busy at all around 6-7pm. There is a restaurant area and the food is good quality and reasonably priced.
We did go there for a few drinks one Friday evening and it got very busy. I left to get some food and they wanted me to pay to get back in as I arrived back after 10pm.
They did however let me back in free after I explained my friends were still in there.
I would recommend this place for food earlier in the evening when it's more of a restaurant but when it becomes more "clubby" you've got to be up for a loud night in a drunken atmosphere.
Went here with a friend for lunch. Great environment, very relaxing and the staff are very friendly. The food was excellent and very reasonably priced, plus they also offer a 2 for 1 deal during lunch. Definately should check out if you're in the soho area!
I took my mum out for her birthday to Jerusalem and had an amazing evening.
Though it was quite noisy in there we were able to talk over it and the atmosphere helped us get into a celebratory mood. The food was very tasty - esp the Jerk Chicken - one of the best I have ever tried.
I love the decor and the staff were very pleasant.
Went to Jerusalem for a friends birthday. I liked the venue and it had a good atmosphere but the drinks were expensive, even for central London.
The food was poor and of McDonalds standard. £9.50 for a basic cheese burger and some fries is quite frankly taking the piss. What really got on my nerves was the veggie burger my girlfriend ordered. It had clearly come straight out of a packet and they were still charging £9.50. I commented on this to the waiter and asked for a reduction in the bill. He nodded in agreement but then did absolutely nothing about it.
Jerusalem's service was also slow.
I went for a girls night out to Jerusalem but left after one drink as the service was so bad. Despite the fact that there was hardly anyone else in the bar the drinks took an age to come, the bar staff were completely confused and they couldn't make two drinks due to lack of ingredients. When they did arrive they came at different times with a gap of a good 15 minutes between the first and the last.
They even had the nerve to bring the bill before the last one. After waiting a further 20 minutes for our card to be returned, we asked for it only to be told very abruptly that they hadn't put it through yet and we still had drinks left, so what was the problem. The Jerusalem staff were so rude that we went elsewhere to enjoy the rest of the night.
I enjoyed a meal at Jerusalem with a large party of work colleagues. The food was very good. The waiters were very helpful and the atmosphere and music at Jerusalem were spot on.
I have been going to Jerusalem for the last couple of years that i have worked on Percy street and seen as though nobody has reviewed it, I thought it is definitely worth a mention. There is always a great vibe at Jerusalem, the drinks are reasonably priced and the food great value for money. Go to Jerusalem it's great!
Jerusalem is small, but stylish. Decor fits well, and wine is fairly priced. Jerusalem is in a chilled out location and far enough off the beaten track to be chilled out.
As I work just down the road, Jerusalem has become a favourite lunch time eatery over the past couple of years. They run a two for one lunch deal which is great considering the value you get for your money! The roquefort salad and Jerk chicken with plantain are outstanding. Jerusalem is also perfect for drinks after work on fridays!
Jerusalem is a nice place. We stumbled across it last week when out in town. It has good music and a nice crowd. The bar staff were very busy so I can undertsand the not so great reviews but we went to Jerusalem with a group of four mates last week. We had some food then drank till closing.
My girlfriend and I accidently stumbled across Jerusalem last Friday and left hours later, after having a really great night. What seemed to be just another London basement bar turned out to be a fine place with great food and the opportunity to dance away the stresses of tough week.
The staff were all so friendly and service was swift and tentative. We will definitely be back to Jerusalem soon.
Jerusalem was an extreme disappointment. When I asked for a glass of water I was offered half a glass. I requested a full glass but was refused. Assuming I had mis-heard, I asked again, and was told that I could not have any more water, and made to feel like I had asked for a free vodka! Finally I was presented with a bottle of spring water and told to pay £1.50.
Their attitude was extremely rude. Afterwards, I was accused of behaving inappropriately, and was forcibly removed for causing a 'nuisance'. I urge you never to visit this bar. Jerusalem don't know the meaning of customer satisfaction. I would give them a 0 if I could.
I went to Jerusalem a long time ago and it was terrible. I was forced to re-visit for a party and I did not think the staff could be worse than last time and the atmosphere more horrible and intimidating. I was wrong.
Everything about Jerusalem is rubbish. Never go there. One star rating as you can't do a minus.
Jerusalem is easily the worst bar I have been to in a long time! I arrived last Friday for a friends birthday bash at about 8pm and the bar was already heaving, it took a minimum of twenty-five minutes to get served each time. This wasn't the fault of the barstaff, who did their best, but at anytime I could only see 3 to 4 people serving, which in a bar of that size and capacity on a Friday night is just plain stupid.
The toilets are vile and the corridor that leads to them strongly reeks of urine, which isn't a good sign in an establishment serving food. The waiting staff had to really shove through hordes of people to get orders to the tables too. The music is pretty bog standard wallpaper muzak that you can hear in any bar in London certainly not worth travelling for and the atmosphere is similar to something like a huge suburban Yates or Wetherspoons - loads of people jammed in one space making lots of noise.
All in all, Jerusalem was a really bad experience, I would not recommend this place to anyone.
Jerusalem is great. Everyone has a bar they feel comfortable visiting time and time again and this place never fails to provide a decent atmosphere and a worthwhile night out. If you're fed up with waiting at bars for ages only to be served a bottle of beer, have no fear because the Jerusalem bar serves pints. Yippee! Turn up around nine o'clock and you're likely to get a couple of seats around the long medieval style oak tables. Turn up after 10pm and you can expect to pay £5 to get in but it's still worth it. It gets busy but not overly crowded and despite the size of the bar, the service is great. A choice selection of popular grooves on Friday and Saturday nights will get you burning up the dance floor with your mates in no time. Expect an eclectic mix of dancehall classics, golden greats from the hip hop back catalogue, 60s soul and funk - there's something to keep everybody happy! Check the place out on the quiter nights of the week for a quiet pint and some decent pub grub - it's a convenient escape from the nearby hustle of Oxford Street.
What started out as a fairly decent evening turned to an awful experience as the bar closed. One of the bar staff abused a friend of mine, visiting from o/s, who had been waiting patiently to be served. Not realising that lights on meant drink up, she was appalled to be sworn at and made to feel incredibly embarassed in front of my friends on her first night in London. This is the kind of treatment we have all come to expect in rowdy drinking holes - not in a venue where the clientele is full of young professionals who go there to have a good time and steer clear of troublemakers - and who are prepared to pay exorbitant prices for their drinks in order to do so.
The bouncer was most friendly and apologised to us, but the damage was already done. I will never go there again - the attitude of the bar staff was nothing short of disgraceful. I would have given zero stars but it wasn't possible on the system!
Went to a wicked night called Close To Home at Jerusalem. Very funky music and sexy customers. Saturday rocked big time. Would love to have stayed longer but closed at 1am - I definitely wanted more!
