After being assured that "there's no one down there but we can't let you in just yet as our tables haven't all arrived" we bought a drink at the bar as recommended before heading back to talk to the doorman about getting in.
The "queue" was a scrum and a sham. People clustered around the entrance like whiny Bieber fans. The only people allowed in either had face lifts and furs or knew someone – "darlink!" The preening doorman was very clearly on a massive power trip.
If you can stomach begging such a creep for a favour and actually get into the (near empty) club it's fine but, really, it's not worth the time, effort or money.
I was told that Le Baron was a place where east London met west- in the heart of Mayfair.
My expectations were quite high. BUT my first impression was very disappointing (=snobby bouncer)-certainly not 'east' like. Furthermore, on a Saturday night, if you haven't booked a table, or know someone of someone of someone you might risk not getting downstairs (where the actual club is). But if/when you do- you will love the quirky interior and music. The crowd might be pretentious/snotty but ..hey! what do you expect at the heart of mayfair?
Overall...OK.
Conclusion: If you want to experience East London- go to East London and not Mayfair! ;) It's much cheaper and no one can do it better.
This place is waaaay cool. Food in the restaurant was best I've eaten in mayfair by long way. I went close to opening as well but always takes time to get it perfect - last night on the money. Cry if you cant get into the club - worked for date I was with.
oh my goodness the restaurant was as a bad as the club poor all round
A few issues that could be addressed here - music policy is pretty ropey. Tables you reserve are tiny and by the time they have stuck one of those massive ice buckets on it there is nowhere to put drinks so bottles and glasses kept crashing to the floor with staff then making a big hoo-haa about clearing it up - all rather amateurish. Deco is fab, sound system OK but not loud enough, obvs a sound limiter problem but probably just as well as music a snooze - 70s/80 retro bla. Not exactly Hedges and Butler, where the music was always on trend and interesting - a bit of Tiefschwartz or M.A.N.D.Y would go down well - if I want retro music I'll go and crash a wedding! Same story always with Central London, music too naff. Door staff too serious and snotty too but that's nothing new- they will need to step up their game if they want this to work.
Opening night all pretty average club music people all seen before street was busy waited too long in the queue too long for a drink. stayed twenty minutes, met the new managers pete and chee chee who were cool & few chelsea reality stars left went home quite unimpressed.
