Went to Shipwrecked last week with a couple friends, as it was recommended to us and what a night! The show was fantastic, the staff and management were very welcoming, after there's a music night called the good foot and i would definitely recommend it, the DJs create a really nice feel good atmosphere, the whole evening was worth its weight in gold and it is one the must go places in London
The place is very graceless with its cheap folding chairs, but what was most shocking is that 95% of the burlesque dancers they hire have terrible cellulite. It's like going to a classical concert and the soprano has a cold. What a turn-off! Not going back...
A really good night! I went with 5 friends from work and we had such a hoot. There are a lot of boobs but the comedy element worked well and you take it all in your stride! We got tickets for £5 on Groupon for the Wednesday night Burlesque show and it was great.

I went to Madame Jojo's last Friday with my boy and our mate, to celebrate his 20th birthday.
This was the first time any of us had experienced Burlesque or Cabaret and we all had a really good time. The House of Burlesque show (Shipwrecked) was funny, sexy and clever- I'd definitely recommend it to Burlesque virgins as the host and performers, while greatly embarrassing my boyfriend, were friendly full of teasing but not nasty banter, and made it clear that no one would be forced to do anything they wouldn't want to.
We bought our tickets on the door- £15 each for standing room only was a bit pricier than we wanted, but this did include free entry to the club afetrwards, and we managed to find a table in the end. The drinks were expensive for a group of broke students, I think at one point it was £18.50 for 2 double rums and cokes and a single gin and tonic, but this is to be expected in a Central London venue.
As we had wristbands garunteeing free entry to the club we decided to leave and get some food then return (Wok to Walk is practically next door), and the bouncers were fine with this.
Some people have mentioned that the toilets are a bit small- and this is completely true, but by the end of the night all the women were just squashing past each other and chatting so that was absolutely fine, and added to the friendly atmosphere of the place.
Overall, a wonderful first visit, but will only be returning on special occasions as my budget won't be able to deal with it for a while!
i recently went to the kitsch cabaret on a hen party and i must say it was excellent and very well put together and had good variety of acts. i had a excellent time and i would definitely recommend going there.
How anyone could possibly rate this rip-off joint more than one star is completely beyond me. Is the owner posting himself perhaps?
£50 a ticket to be squashed in a corner on makeshift stools arranged around a coffee table, with so many other parties also rammed in that it is impossible to see the stage unless standing up, is really not what I would call even acceptable value for money. One act performing could at least sing, the rest were tone deaf, and the costumes were shoddy in the extreme. Our 'canapes' failed to arrive, and the management were indifferent. This has to be the most overpriced, underwhelming night out in London. As mentioned in other reviews, when the 'show' finishes at 9.30, you have the option of staying on for whatever club night is on, but your seats will be whisked out from under you two minutes later for supposed health and safety reasons.
If you fancy being treated with utter disdain by bar staff, sitting in a scrum, listening to off-key 'entertainment' that you can't actually see, surrounded by hen parties kitted out in pink L-plates, and paying through the nose for the privilege, then this place is for you. Otherwise, for the sake of your own sanity, go somewhere else.
I think Madamejojos is amazing! i absolutly love the new look its been given and everytime i go there i never want to leave the staff are always friendly and helpful and on fridays and saterdays they bring in lots of cool peple all dressed up in vintage clothing this place is an absoloute gem and i hope it never changes.
I went on a hen night here in September 2010. Booked the tickets months ago really looking forward to it. £40 a ticket got us 11 seat squashed in a corner. We did not have food but that looked like a good option. The show started at 8pm and the men/women were pretty fab we were just getting into it and bought our third round of drinks when the whole night ended very abruptly at 9.30pm and we were rushed out - literally chairs were being removed from around us.
The staff were then rude asking us to leave as the venue then turns into a Jazz night at 10am and they needed to clear it - we were not allowed to take drinks with us. Then we were taken to a good club but about a 10 min walk away.
Feel like we have been a bit ripped of for a night that started off great.
Rubbish, a waste of money and a massive con!
They failed to provide the table and food we had booked (for 12). The show was average (I have seen better for free in Blackpool) and ended abrubtly before it had even really started. The staff were rude and kicked us out immediately after the show, after taking £40 for another round of drinks! We were then marched to another venue and dumped.
For £55 a head this was a complete rip off. They rely on non repeat customers (hen dos etc) and people not making a fuss and spoiling a friends hen do!
Not a shine on Blackpools Betty Legs diamond................
Love the mixshake party they have on thursdays! the girl on the door is soo sweet and helpful! she convinced us to go in and we wound up not leaving till the music stopped! deff going back! too bad its only once a month...
I enjoyed the show, BUT if you are planning to book a ticket that includes canapes - DON'T - they are completely overpriced and not even that tasty.
I went to Madame Jo Jo's last weekend and i would definitely go again!!
The bar staff where great, the waitresses where lovely and welcoming ... we even had them up dancing with us by the end of the night.
Like all everywhere you go it depends on the people your with and I was definitely there with the right people.
The performers can only give as good as they get so 'Give a little love and it all comes back to you' that's what we found ...So ... Thanks to all at Madame Jo Jo's!!
Particularly Gloria, Tamara and Jerry you made our night ... I hope Gloria got the shot glass she was after ;)x x x
This place is a real find in Soho! Gorgeous decor, friendly punters and only £8 entry which isn't too bad for a club. We went for Lost and Found on a saturday night, the music was brilliant old skool rock n roll, and some people had made an effort to look a little bit 50s but generally were just well-dressed clubbers. There were a couple of professional dancers who were great to watch at the start of the night before everyone else joined in. However, that's where it goes wrong!
The dancefloor was so packed it was more like being at a gig and getting crushed than clubbing- quite annoying because the music is so good. Dance by the bar instead if you don't like being shoved around! The cocktails were also nicely done and only about £7, but after two weak ones I decided to leave the drinking and just try dancing instead- spending £15 on drinks and still not even feeling tipsy isn't ideal! It didn't put me off though and I would definitely go back. Good music, nice people and a great atmosphere- just prepare to have your toes stepped on!
Madame JoJos always hosts a great night, the people are friendly and the music is always a crowd pleaser. Definately a place to check out!!
Madame Jojo's is one of those clubs that you either love or hate.
For Me, I loved it. The music is good, the drinks are OK priced (for the area), the interior design is lovely and the staff and other clubbers were friendly.
Preferably, Jojo's is better on a weekday but on a weekend it still has a great atmosphere and always delivers a fantastic night.
The Kitsch Cabaret was not as described sadly. Paid for 12 of my friends for my birthday and was very disappointed. The show is drag but is described as an all female las vegas style show. It was actually
three men dressed in drag putting on a very poor show which none of us were even interested in watching in the end. The best bit of the show was when a drunk started stripping and upstaged the drag!
We were told the music would e rockabilly but we were led to a dance club called an anon. Drinks prices were OK but the 20 is way too expensive for the show. Its a real shame as they have an otherwise lovely venue. When i complained the manager was really rude to me.
Been many times to this great nightclub that has the best atmosphere, great music and fantastic location right in the heart of Londons famous Soho. The venue has a variety of events, something for everyone, like White Heat for those who like independent music, they are constantly introducing new bands for those who get tired of whats mainstream out there!! Another great night is on Saturdays, Kitsch Cabaret which holds lots of old school music and lots of glitz and glamour. Perfect for hen nights, it's definately a must!! Did I also mention that the decor is amazing? Very vintage art deco :):)
Madame Jojo's is great, a proper night club with real atmosphere. I go with mates to Deep Funk but Ive been twice to the Saturday cabaret on hen nights, which is fantastic. We had a brilliant time and the singers were amazing. Drinks a bit pricey but its Soho ;)
The first and last time I go this pub! The price is excessive for what you expect to find. Dreadful deco and worse music. I do not recommend it at all andI defenitely won´t come back again.
ok place, nice and small, ppl mainly friendly, music seriously lacks versatility, very safe place, all clientele very civilised, staff and bouncers aways smiling
Madame Jo Jo's was a name I had been aware of for many years yet had never attended as I thought it was only for hen parties.I went for the first time on saturday and whilst initially surprised at how small the venue was I was looking forward to some good acts.
What a surprise when the first drag artist was none other than...a woman! Two men were supporting her but it was a little disappointing, I had expected a lot more for the money.
You need to be well 'oiled' to really enjoy the night.
Fridays and Saturday night at Madame Jojo's never disappoints.
I recommend that if your going in a large group email a guestlist ahead of time, the requestee gets FREE entry!
On viewing some other reviews yea the place is pretty small but what it lacks in size it makes up for in character.
The drinks are pretty pricey but then where isn't in that area of town, well...hit the pub round the corner to get to well lubricated and free to get your groove on. I've taken loads of peoplethere in the past, girls and guys and even though they all have different music tastes and dancing confidence everyones loved it.
The funk is great, the Roackabilly later on Fridays does verge on cheesy but only so far as 'Hit the road Jack...' at the end of the night, all played in good humour. Everyones dancing, theres no attitude and no sleaziness which you can't say about alotta places!
I went on a Saturday to Madame JoJos for the drag show for a hen party. I wouldn't recommend the experience to anyone. We paid £40.00 each for entry, seating and then an extra £10.00 a head for a few trays of some unidentifable stuff we were told was our food! I wouldn't feed it to a dog, so I wouldn't eat it myself!
The show was good, but just over an hour of entertainment wasn't worth £40.00! The food probably needed to be sent to a forensic lab before anyone could say what it was meant to be.
Drinks were over priced - £5.50 for a vodka Red Bull in a miniture glass half filled with ice! The management were lovely whilst we were making the booking and when we first got there, then as soon as we weren't happy they couldn't have cared less.
If you are happy paying that kind of money to get into a tiny little club that looks like a bomb hit it, Madame JoJos is perfect for you!
We went to the cabaret for my hen party, and can honestly say we had the most amazing time. My stripper was hilarious and it was a brilliant night. I don't know whether I'll ever be able to re-live that night but it was truly one to remember.
Madame JoJos drags are amazing and the manager is lovely. We were then taken to On Anon but I was too drunk to get in, so went to Sugar Reef which was brilliant too!
I went to Madame JoJo's on Friday for my birthday and had a fantastic time. As said before the drinks are pretty pricey but then that's what you expect in London clubs, so it's not really a bad point.
The music was wicked - good funk playing nearly all night. Everyone was really nice at Madame JoJo's, and there was no trouble just people having a really good night. I definitely recommend it for a night out.
I went to Madame JoJo's on Friday night for Deep Funk. The funk was really good. There was a dance pit at the back and rather inconveniently placed was a lino flooring facing the small bar area where the breakdancers congregate taking turns to amuse themselves whilst everyone else watches.
The drinks at Madame JoJo's were very expensive, but it's what you expect, isn't it? The cheapest drink on the menu was Red Stripe at £3.50 a can. I wasn't complaining because I like beer and the Red Stripe tasted fine.
The club got really busy after 11.30pm, it's quite a small place but there were no assholes. Even the toilet attendant was charming.
Unfortunately, they started playing Rockabilly at about 1.30am and most people left. I think the DJ got the message and half an hour later cool funk was back, it was a bit late though.
This is really a good review, I had high expectations and they were met, all the little things I mentioned were not enough to ruin a truly wicked night out at Madame JoJo's.
Well, what can I say? Many moons ago, this used to be London's Premier Transvestite club, it was good, then. Maybe I am being unfair, but on the Thursday I turned up I was treated to a cacophony of tuneless, instantly forgettable "music".
The people who run this joint clearly think they are ahead of the game but they, like a large portion of their over-dressed clientele, are sadly misguided. Add to this a scary Alice Cooper lookalike DJ and some hideously amateurish bands, and you have a truly naff night out, and not what you would expect in hip and happening Soho.
Their drinks are overpriced too, and there are only two cramped toilet cubicles complete with hand wiper/perfumer. Why do people think this adds a touch of class? All they do is get in the way. It’s not China White's afterall. Maybe I will go on a different night, as I believe they have different promoters.
Madame JoJo's has become almost synonymous with transvestism. At least in the popular conscience. If you so much as mention the place it's highly likely someone will say "Madame Jo Jo's - isn't that where all the transvestites go?". Yes, in the past it held that claim to fame. But go down to Madame Jo Jo's on a Friday night and you'll have to look hard to find one. What you will find instead is a largely unpretentious crowd with an interesting mix of young and old. From the outside, Madame JoJo's looks rather seedy. But once inside that impression disappears. The dim lighting and deep red decor give the club a Parisienne feel. There are plenty of sofas and two dance floors, one of which is in a pit overlooked by the DJ. It's fairly expensive but not outrageous (after all it is in the heart of Soho). A beer will set you back £3.50 which I'd guess is average for the city. The music on a Friday night is old funky breaks courtesy of Keb Darge. If you like this kind of music you'll have a great time. Chances are you won't have heard anything like it (unless you're into it) and the DJ will not listen to requests for something a little more mainstream. Entry to Madame Jo Jo's at the time of writing is £5 before 11 and £8 after. If you get there early to save money, don't be alarmed at the lack of people in the place as it does pick up after 11pm and will, without a doubt, be packed by midnight. Madame Jo Jo's is a good place to go to for a date or with some friends as the music is not so loud that you can't hear what you're saying and there are usually the dancers to watch. Madame JoJo's has a regular crowd of dancers that have been going there for years and still turn up every Friday. There is an interesting mix of Jazz dancers, breakdancers with some spectacular moves and if you're lucky, a drunk city boy will do a forwards roll and make a complete idiot of himself.
11 of us arrived on Saturday evening 12th June for a long awaited hen night. We paid £38.50 per head for entrance and buffet. Cabaret was quite late starting and we enquired a couple of times as to where the food was. When it finally arrived we were all very disappointed with the quality and consequently 99% of it went uneaten. Come 10.00pm we were literally hassled to get out of the door by staff and when we complained about the food along with a few other tables our complaints were completely ignored. We were then escorted not literally across the street as described on website, but a good few streets away to a night club, along with a good few hundred other women - you can imagine what that looked like. Don't think I will be recommending this venue to anyone in the future, we all felt like we had been ripped off.
