I was recently taken to Mahikis by my 2 best mates for an infamous treasure chest. The drinks were great, however that came at a cost. Before ordering the chest I ordered 3 beers a two shots. Anyway left my card behind the bar with one of the Australian guys. Wend to collect the card at the end of the evening and much to my surprise they didin't have it. After arguing with the bar staff, we paid for £100 chest and also the intial round of drinks in cash.
The perfect place for a girly night out! Music is a mix of classics and current stuff, so suits all, the drinks menu also suits every budged. The house white is inexpensive, especially considering the popularity of this place, as are the cocktails, just don't be stung with some of the more expensive ones to share if you're a little light on the pounds! A great atmosphere, everyone was friendly. This is one of the least pretentious places in London. Extremely hot though, this place is in dire need of some air con!
I went to Mahiki with my friends on Wednesday. We had no problems getting in and we got a table for the evening. The drinks were great although expensive (drinks are cheaper earlier in the evening) and the service was friendly and good. I spent much of the evening dancing as the music was absolutely fantastic. There was a great live band playing for a while in the evening. The dancefloor is small so it gets pretty crowded and hot quickly but it didn't effect the ambiance at all. Our whole group (seven people) loved the place and as we were leaving the staff got us a private taxi quick. If you want to have a fantastic night, the place to go is Mahiki. Just arrive early and be friendly (it's amazing what you can get with a smile!).
just tried to make an enquiry about the club for a friends b'day and got a very snotty reception when I wasn't booking the £800 minimum spend table.
shortly after sharing this info I was told to just turn up on the night. then the phone went click. not impressed.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!!! Went to Mahiki on Saturday night. The worst place ever! After having dinner at Scotts in Mayfair (Fantastic by the way!) we eagerly walked down to Mahiki's where we was supposed to be on the guest list. After arguing with the doormen for 15 mins we finally got in. The clubs decor is amazing but the people are complete toffee nose idiots! All wannabe 'Royals' due to the princes going there. After getting a table we ordered a round of drinks which took 30 mins and was missing 2 drinks. It then took a further 20 mins for them to bring us our forgotten drinks! Cocktails were complete rubbish and the service was the worst ever experienced. The worst thing about this place is the people. All rude, no mannered, pompous twats. Do not believe the hype!
Mahiki isn't usually the sort of club I go to but since it was a mate's 21st, I went along. It started off fine, the interior is impressive and there's a great ambience. However the people in there, although harmless, I found were a little shallow and annoying. When I go to a club, I like the crowd to be more or less friendly and considerate. But at Mahiki, I found them to be the complete opposite. Eventually I came to the conclusion that although the club was nice, it was full of posers and people who were to "be seen."
The bouncers were OK with us initially as we smiled and were polite to them. However after leaving the club, one of my friends needed to go back in as she'd left her mobile in the toilets. The bouncers wouldn't let her in. They then refused to call the manager after we had asked them to.
Mahiki is OK, the only thing special about is the decor and possibly the (overpriced) cocktails. If you're going to Mahiki cos you've heard how "amazing" and "trendy" it is, it's not worth compromising a good night out.
I've been a couple of times and while I wouldn't say it was ever great it wasn't awful either.
I had no problems with bouncers or staff and they let our group sit at a reserved table until the people who had reserved it arrived.
I agree that the dance floor gets too crowded and the toilet attendants make you feel like you owe them a tenner each time, but all in all it's a pretty safe choice.
6 well healed professionals...hahaha....
some of the best cocktails in london and a laid back vibe only spoiled by boring rich people with no dress sense( you're not at the yacht club now tarquin). The only reason 'suits' get charged 800 minimum for a table is because they dont bring any atmosphere to the club so they may as well bring some money in!
And you get what you pay for cocktail-wise: excellent rums and super-fresh juices.
18 months on, this place still stands out from the crowd...
Chose the venue for engagement party, told people to get there early as advised by Mahiki's party planner, all my friends were there at 9 and the people at the door made them wait for an hour. I mean, how early do you have to get to a club. The only way to get them in was to get 800 pound table and then they said they could accomodate only 10-15 people. Unbelievable. Did not ruin our night but I regret choosing this venue.
Utter crap. Arrogant staff outside and in, despite my friends and I being on the guest list. Ridiculously crowded, low ceiling, paranoid reaction to anyone going within 1 metre of an empty 'reserved' table.
Luckily a few guys/girls in the crowd were decent, unlike most of the staff.
80's music, ok for a drunken bop but not possible due to claustrophobically crowded dancefloor.
£14 for a cocktail not great value for money either
6 well healed professionals on a Wednesday at 12am charged a £800 minimum charge for a table - LUDICROUS
Poor investment, 400 trips to Cafe Nero is MUCH MORE REWARDING
I loved it. Cocktails were amazing and the music reminded me of my teenage years. I had a blast dancing to the 80s tunes. On the negative side, the staff at the entrance is arrogant and unpleasant and the club is saved only by the terrific ambiance once you manage to get in. Lower the quality of the drinks / music and you are back to your average London club: overpriced and overrated.
ha ha. loved it. kitchy-fabulous decor, decent drinks, friendly staff (including...gasp... door staff!) and a fun, fun night. I'll be going back.
I completely disagree..
I was there (as well) last Friday... and I had a fab time.. the waiters were great... the music was fantastic..
well, I always get lots of attention, and dont hide in the basement..
I guess it takes pretty .. hehe..
I went to Mahiki last Friday with my friend and we felt like we had descended into hell. There was barely a dancefloor with people literarily pressing into you and grabbing your ass as they walked by. We thought it was a classy place, but obviously not.
We decided to leave the basement and go upstairs. This was a bit better with atleast some air to breath. The drinks price was ok, but the waiters were extremely rude and could do with a lot of training on manners (My God, they are waiters afterall, if they don't like waiting on people, then get another job)
Overall, it was a horrible night, barely saved by a nice hedge fund guy I met on my out of the club.
Needless to say, I would not be going there again.
Mahiki is fab. I have been there several times, most recently on Saturday.
The cocktails are amazing - the treasure chest is a must, just for the experience. I have only ever been in groups of four but you can easily get through it. However, if you intend to continue mixing, I highly recommend a pint of water before bed.
If you get there before about 10 there is normally a cover charge, however if you are an all-male group, you should definitely arrange a guest list beforehand to guarantee entry.
Everyone inside is friendly and there is none of the snobbery you might see at some of London's top-end clubs.
The only down point I would have to say is that the last two times I went, Nikki from Big Brother was there, and the Essex girl contingency is on the up - best stick to mid week.
This is a great club. My friend and I are frequent clubbers of a certain standard and we have failed to find one to match it lately.
We are always polite and unassuming and the door and bar staff are accommodating and lovely in return. We are never on guestlist, but have absolutely no trouble getting in and have never even needed to queue.
Cocktails are strong and reasonably priced for a club of this caliber, but not as tasty as at Long Bar. Decor channels Trader Vics. Music is mainstream rnb, funky house and cheese (love it). The crowd are sophisticated, successful and hip, but don't take themselves too seriously.
I hope Mahiki continues to treat us well as we will be going back.
Just had my birthday there. Saturday night- was excellent! Thanks to all staff! (and no, I do not have a trust fund or Daddy's credit card).
We walked straight in just before 9pm. Had delicious cockails and were given a table for free downstairs until 1am. Blonde Aussie host looked after us and all staff were great, maybe a bit slow but so helpful and sweet.
We were allowed outside to smoke too. The atmosphere was fun and friendly. So much better than other West End clubs where it is bitchy and full of people looking you up and down/wannabe porn stars/WAG's/old pervs.
All clubs in Mayfair/West End charge these prices. If you don't like it stick to the suburbs or Wetherspoons! Plus the cocktails here are really well made, fresh and organic (oh...and lethal). You will have a great night - just get there early and smile!
Mahiki is little more than a Rainforest Cafe for those with trust funds. It's essentially a Canary Island bar for those who holiday on the Cote D'Azur, buckets of drink with multiple straws even done with supposed irony are little more than get drunk quick gimmick for young males who slur their way around the place.
Even with a heavy pinch of tounge in cheek this place is awful, these Tiki bars are considered naff even in the US. If that's what the owners aspire to then they have done a great job. Overpriced, overrated and on the whole pretty avoidable.
Mahiki might just be my favourite club in London (though I guess it's technically not a club). I've been both during the week and on weekends and it's great whenever, just a slightly different crowd. Everyone here's just up for a good time, and the amazing drinks certainly help.
The decor is great though the place itself isn't that big. The music is loads of fun (I tend to prefer something I can sing and dance to than regular club music). Upstairs is a bit more chilled - tropical type stuff (they played lots of Beach Boys last time I was there), and downstairs the DJ is wedding style, playing everything from chart stuff to oldies.
The crowd is young and trendy and thankfully not as sleazy as at most other venues in the West End (sorry boys, no slutty girls in hotpants). Cover isn't too steep and the drinks can be pricey, but they're worth it. The cocktail list is really well put together, the drinks are interesting, and they definitely pack a punch. If you sit in the upstairs lounge area the cocktail list is a bit more extensive and the drinks come in really funky vessels.
Staff inside the venue are great and really chilled and I didn't have any trouble with the door staff. Since there's no guestlist, queues can be a bit long on weekends, but as long as you're nice to the bouncers they don't give you any grief. All in all Mahiki's a great place for a crazy, care-free night out!
Well, I loved it! An interminable wait to get in, and to be honest not the most friendly door staff but once inside, great decor, great service, music and drinks. True tiki style - and some people obviously don't get it. Miserable people go and pose at China White. If you're looking for a laugh come and join us at Mahiki.
Mahiki is pretty rubbish. The ceilings are far too low, it's dark and very smokey. The sound system upstairs is fuzzy and useless - a lot of the time we couldn't tell what type of music was playing, let alone what song.
The wait at the bar to pay for overpriced drinks was ridiculous. What's more, the young, vain, Hooray Henry crowd did anything but add to the experience - try actually smiling folks!
I guess if you're 21, lack imagination and have Daddy's credit card at the ready, Mahiki is the place for you.
Most delicous cocktails I have ever tasted! Every drink comes in a different kind of mug or glass. The music in the club is awesome. The only thing they need to so is sort out the poor girls uniforms. Other than that, Mahiki's a great, unique night out.
I visited Mahiki on Saturday night. To be honest, you would have to pay me to go back in there. It was so dark you couldn't see anyone, let alone get to the bar and the temperature resembled someone blowing a hairdryer in your face on full heat! The entrance fee to get into a bar is so over the top - £15.00 - for what exactly?! The staff/doorman are so above themselves, someone should remind them they are only just doormen and perhaps not giving people dirty looks may entice people to come in.
As for the music, what was it exactly? It just sounded like a constant loud noise that just gave me a headache. This is undoubtedly the worst bar I have ever been to and would thoroughly recommend that you don't go to Mahiki, unless you want to completely waste your time, money and effort! There are far more classier places than this establishment in London.
I have been going to Mahiki now for the past 6 weeks and I have to say it's getting better and better. The staff are great, no problems at all. Very friendly, good service. And just to top it off, discovered last night they have black Bermuda rum! Try the Dark and Stormys - fab!
Mahiki is the most refreshing, fun place in London! The negative reviews clearly are from those that can't get in for whatever reason. The staff are charming and the service, drinks and vibe excellent.
Mahiki is not awesome. We went on a Wednesday. The decor is great, I'll give it that. The cocktails are average and the service bad. There was a complaint at the rabble next to us and the waitress/manager couldn't/wouldn't deal with it. Stick to Trader Vics!
Mahiki is like the worst wedding disco you can imagine. Over priced, over iced drinks that aren't even that good, at a bar where it takes an age to get served in the first place. Even when you want to leave you can't - they lost the coats of two girls in the party who both had tickets, leading to a half hour wait. To be fair, the bouncers were cool as they let us back in and stand in the lobby while we waited for the rest of our party when it started to rain. I know Mahiki is tongue in cheek and meant to be naff, but there's naff and then there's plain bad.
Mahiki is one of the worst places I've been to in London. The bouncers at the door are particularly obnoxious, and were very rude, patronising and unpleasant to the group of people I was with, including myself. I strongly recommend you do not go to Mahiki if you like being treated with respect.
I have to say I'm genuinely bemused by some of the reviews on here for Mahiki. I go sometimes as I work very close by and have always had a good time. It had a shaky start, agreed, but the service and atmosphere has improved out of sight. Some reviewers seem to think because it's in Mayfair it has to act the same as others.
The no guest list policy means queues are inevitable - if you dont want to wait dont wait! Comments about the decor seem off; its a tiki bar - it's meant to be firmly tongue in cheek naff. Don't like it or the music that goes with it? Don't go.
If however you like a relaxed environment and unpretentious atmosphere with killer cocktails - in stark contrast to everything else in the area - come down and enjoy it. Service can be a bit slow to be honest but in my experience it's always done with a smile. Long live Mahiki. Just dont eat the food.
A group of us were up from Brighton for the weekend and went to Mahiki on Saturday night. After quite a long wait to get in we had a great time. They were very busy but the waitress put us on a waiting list for a table upstairs and we got one within about 40 minutes.
Our waitress was great even though very busy. Her help with the massive menu was spot on each time, and despite being very busy she made time for everyone.
Cocktails great, service great, and from what I can remember the club downstairs was pretty good too. Nice mix of people, cool but unpretentious. Mahiki comes highly recommended.
The only impressive thing about Mahiki is their PR machine. Despite incredibly rude staff, terrible service and awful music we are supposed to believe Madonna and Sienna Miller drink here all the time?
The only people I saw when I went, were drunk out of towners or disgruntled Londoners getting annoyed about this rip off of a place. Don't believe the hype and don't go to Mahiki.
A friend was celebrating her birthday at Mahiki and we went along to meet her. We were told there was no guestlist at the door but luckily we knew the secret password, so the young Alan Partridge lookalike at the door said that he would see what he could do.
He came out again after 10 minutes and completely blanked us to go and joke around with some people in the queue. Note, we certainly don't look or smell like tramps.
We went to ask him what was going on and he said that he had no way of telling us how long the wait would be because it was one in, one out. This deliberate rudeness is just part of the whole power trip these little people are on. Our friend grabbed the manager and came looking for us, but unfortunately we had had enough and had left by then.
Maybe Mahiki is a fun place but to be honest, I don't care and I will never go back. If you are having your birtthday there, please be aware that all your friends might not make it in. We all have better things to do than hang out in the cold and be patronised.
Went to Mahiki last night and had a blinder. They had five bands playing downstairs which were awesome and the cocktails were delicous. I recomend the Wednesday night at Mahiki.
Went to Mahiki in January and swore never to go again. Rude staff and shambolic service. Against my judgement I was dragged back for a friends birthday. Surprise! They have sorted themselves right out. The waitress was efficient and friendly, the crowd great and cocktails amazing. I hope Mahiki keep it up.
I enjoyed Mahiki. I have been there a few times, but where is my waitress?! That other Mahiki girl doesn't have her smile.
Hello, bar hoppers! Skip this venue. Mahiki is just a waste of time, money and rude arrogant and unprofessional staff married with false ego and attitude. They are wasting bamboo and the theme is so called Polynesian!
Shame on the people who own it. If they cannot cope with the needs of the place and customers, then they should scrap Mahiki, and stop ripping off bar goers. It has lousy cocktails, grubby glasses and cold food! At a price that's so not worth it.
I went to Mahiki when they first opened and the service was terrible. I gave it another go last night and it was brilliant. They have completly sorted themselves out. The atmosphere was awesome, the cocktails delicious and to top it all off Madonna walked in! I am so pleased I gave Mahiki another chance.
I love Mahiki! It is the hottest place in London and clearly some of the other reviewers on this site don't live up to the standard of people in there! The service is chatty and good, with killer cocktails, and an amazing atmosphere. Mahiki is not stuffy at all. And even so, what's wrong with a bit of exclusivity?!
I have been in Mahiki and my experience wasn't so good as I expected. The decor is pathetic, the waiters are the slowest and rudest anywhere in London, and the crowd attending the venue ...
Considering so much effort has gone into its decor, Mahiki lacked atmosphere. Nice cocktails, but honestly, get your act together and run it properly.
Mahiki iss great. It has cool music, good company, delicious cocktails and space to breathe. Mahiki is a unique and fun night out with a difference. Dress: Grass Skirts.
I went to Mahiki a couple of weeks ago for my birthday and all I have to say is, don't bother! I tried to book a table or an area a couple of weeks beforehand and was told that you couldn't reserve tables in the bar and it was first come first served. I was also told that there was no guestlist, so I was quite surprised to find that all the tables were reserved in the bar for Old Friends and there was some sort of guestlist in operation.
The staff were very rude, surly and unhelpful. My friends were not let in after 9pm despite the place still being fairly empty. I would definitely not recommend Mahiki to anyone. If you are not friends with the owner but like rude, mean and nasty staff and a crowd that leaves a lot to be desired then this is the place for you.
I just spent a Saturday evening at Mahiki and were it not for the company of great friends I think I'd have ended up slashing my wrists. The only plus note was a pina colada which I did enjoy. Other than that, the deco is pathetic, the waiters are the slowest and rudest anywhere in London, and the crowd attending the venue ... well, what to say? God help us from that bunch of cheap and cheerful chavs.
I checked the dress code for Mahiki prior to visting and I was advised that - actual quote - model looks would have helped in case of a queue. Model looks? The initital look I took at the crowd once I descended the steps, revealed a bunch of very badly dressed, loud, dreadfully behaved folk who seemed to have come out from a pub round the corner. And that's probably due to the very reasonable price of the drinks I suppose.
One word describes Mahiki - arrogant! Mahiki stands for pretentious, rude, arrogant idiots, and I don't just mean the staff. Their VIP area has no indication that it is a VIP area so the snobs drinking champagne in that area, no doubt paid for out of Daddy's wallet, were rude enough to tell me to step away from their area. All whilst the staff, despite assuring you on the telephone that you have an area, decide to give away tables that are meant to be reserved for you.
The staff, the service, and the drinks were crap, and the people were ugly and arrogant. I wouldn't go back there ever.
I went to Mahiki bar and boy was it an expensive night. I would agree that some of the cocktails were good and worth the money, but some were not so good. I had a good time as I got pretty drunk and forgot about how rude some of the staff were. That was a mistake.
My suit jacket was taken off a chair and given to someone else. They then proceeded to tell me that they did not check jackets in without handing out a docket, forgetting that they just gave my mate back his coat.
I have called Mahiki everyday and left messages hoping that someone would A) answer the phone or B) return my call. I got through today and was told to call back as the lady who answered was in a meeting. She told me to phone between 9 and 5. I guess those hours must be the hours that they don't answer the phone. Genius.
My friend had her birthday at Mahiki on Saturday and we had an amzing time. The club had so much energy and was full of fun and cool people. The drinks are amazing! You have to try the Treasure Chest cocktail for 10! We will be back at Mahiki this weekend!
I had a brilliant night at Mahiki this weekend. It is so unique. The cocktails are amazing. I recommend the Lovers Cup, although beware, they are all pretty strong. But it was all good at Mahiki and I ended up dancing the night away til three in the morning. I will definitly be back. Thank you Mahiki
