I found Matt & Matt on this very site whilst looking for a bar for my birthday drinks at the end of last year.
My friends and I had a wicked night at this bar. I arrived with a mate as it opened and met 'the Matts' who were really friendly and had reserved some seats for me, as I'd requested. My first drink was on the house and this trend continued throughout the night, with myself and my mates all getting a fair amount of free drinks and shots - I think Jellybean vodka featured somewhere!
The bar's open til 3 so it's great for a mix of drinking...when it opens... and dancing... as soon as the music starts!
Definitely recommended, although getting there early is best if you want a seat as it's fairly small.
A great find.

What to say about Matt and Matt? I only wish there were more places in London like this one. It is friendly, has a down to earth atmosphere, and no one is pretending. Matt and Matt are just so friendly, it makes you feel so good, like being at home. The music is excellent, especially when I play there.

Matt and Matt is fresh and funky. I went there on a Thursday for the open DJ night, and I'd advise you do the same. The bar had a friendly atmosphere with a nice serving of funky house. At around about midnight the mood at Matt and Matt changed to incorporate some hot breaks, but the tradition for house was strong making this the ideal night to excite.

What a brilliant place Matt and Matt is. It is the friendliest place I have ever been to in Islington. You feel very welcome and relaxed, a great place for us girls to meet up without getting the usual bothersome ugly men trying to chat you up.

You can hang out and relax on the sofas at Matt and Matt with a great range of happy hour drinks, or it picks up a bit later with good DJ music.

No review since March 2004? I can't believe that. Since jumping into Matt and Matt accidentally four years ago to take cover from the rain, I have never looked back. Matt and Matt is friendly and unpretentious with a seriously laid back, back to basics attitude. If you're after plush surroundings and expensive cocktails then this isn't the place for you. If you're after a hassle free night, a funky house music play list and two barmen (owners) who will look after you all night if you buy them a tequila, then Matt and Matt is the place is for you. Enjoy!

Matt & Matt is a real gem of a place in Islington. The atmosphere is relaxed and upbeat and the staff are partial to giving away free drinks to their favourite customers so practise your best smile! The upbeat music played at Matt & Matt without the club atmosphere is perfect for a weeknight evening for those out for a tipple only.

Wow! Matt & Matt is a refreshing bar in Islington. Better than the rest. Cosy atmosphere, friendly staff and punters. DJ Shifty was playing at the time I went - some retro electro, which is a change from the usual Garage nonsense. It's on my list to revisit.

Matt and Matt has to be the friendliest bar in London. No mean feat, given where it is. The staff and owners make you feel completely welcome and the relaxed chilled out atmosphere is infectious.

There's a really cool Taxi Driver(the Robert DeNiro film, not London cabbies), theme running through the bar and comfy sofas and chairs scattered around giving that "Me casa est Su casa" feel. The bar has a really strong rotation of DJ nights that doesn't usually pander to the "what's trendy this week" brigade. But instead chooses DJs who have a real passion for what they do. More people need to know about this place, but not too many!
