This club is so over-rated. I was hyped up for PvD on Friday the 21st and despite having pre-bought tickets I ended up spending the best part of an hour in a queue to gain entry with several hundred other freezing punters at 1am in the morning. If they are going to make people queue with arctic winds coming in off the Thames the very least they could do is set up a few outdoor heaters or have entry from inside the O2. Once inside it was a free-for-all queuing system to exchange tickets for entry vouchers and then the nightmare of the coat-check queue. What idiot would set up such a small coat-check for a massive venue which effectively ends up blocking entry into the club? Expect to spend about 2 hours queing for various things during your night here.

For a purpose-built club they got this seriously wrong. The venue is absolutely souless and the walkway above the dancefloor is just gimmicky. Anyone who thinks that this is a super-club on par with Pacha Ibiza or Space is completely deluded. Lighting was average (where the f@&* were my lasers!) but to be fair the sound system was great - although not as fantastic as some reviews would have you believe. The vibrating dancefloor was also kind of cool but somehow reminded me of dancing on hollow wooden floorboards.

Overall disappointing - this place could have been something really special but absolutely missed the mark. Would not be coming back here unless it was summer and there was a fantastic line up.

You should have got there earlier! Who goes to a club to see someone like PvD on a capacity sell-out night at midnight and doesn't expect to get stuck in a queue!!??!? Also, a tip for you - don't queue in the main cloakroom section, go round the corner where the queue is tiny, you'll cut out about half an hour off your wait time to stick your coat in. I went on the same night but got there for 10pm and got in with minimal wait times. Welcome to London! You can't compare Ibiza clubs to London clubs, you muppet, Ibiza is a totally different animal. Compared to places like Ministry and Pacha London this is a great club! I agree they need heaters though, it is bloody cold by the Thames. Or at least a barrier to keep the wind off. Still, I had a great night on Friday and will definitely go back. PvD blew the roof off matter! - Report

Agreed with your review completely. What kind of muppet thinks it's acceptable to go to a final destination club at 10pm???!!! - Report

A-mazing! Caught Jon Rundell and Paul Van Dyk's sets here on Friday night and is was one of the best nights out I've had in a long time. The sound system is collossal! My whole body was vibrating in time to the massive tunes the guys were throwing out.

The walk to get there was so cold I though I might die and the queues to get in weren't great (luckily I was guestlist so jumped the queue - it's defo worth pre buying tickets!), but once inside there's no queue for the girls toilets and only a short queue for the bar. It was totally worth it - I'll be going back again soon!

I went to Matter a couple of weeks ago and thought it was brilliant, the music is great! There are a few downsides like they really should have more stairs and getting home is a bit of a pain. But the drinks are not a ridiculous price and the atmosphere was great. If you want to avoid the cloakroom q there is one round the back that was empty when i put my coat in.

Reading some of the negative reviews on here you know that the "I didn't like it" crowd are still missing their much smaller 90's designed clubs (sic). However, the majority of 'clubbers' in this century! Will realise that this is very much the way forward for 'superclubs'...The club is huge, very SPACE like... and the setting really does look like a film set from a futuristic based film... and that vibrating dancefloor...phew!The queues getting into MATTER need to be sorted, I know it's a security issue, but come on guys & girls... people will be frozen while standing in a queue the wrong side of the Dome 'wall'... perhaps they could organise a internal position for the queue? Bars are busy, but the staff do their jobs well under the huge pressure. My suggestion for attendees is to arrive via tube/bus or boat! And head for a bar inside the Dome about an hour before you think you might like to get into the queue... did I mention the 'Q' lol. Those driving to the Dome [02 arena] would save themselves a tidy few quid if they parked in the Sainsbury shopping complex area which is about 10 minutes wall away from the O2... that big tent thingy... for anybody who may ask how you get from Sainsbury to the Dome! Oh... parking is free at this 24 hour sipermarket, wey hey!Give it a few months and this club will be very much part of the UK clubbing scene... and will then become one of the top three clubs nationwide. If you're coming to London for the first time, or for a short holiday break, this club would be a better option than the 'Ministry of Sound'... this is because of the size of the club and unique surroundings. For some MATTER will be like marmite... you'll either love it, or hate it... I for one loved it... and if Space, Pacha etc in Eivissa is your 'thing' - this club is for you.

Matter is a great venue shame its so big & the Q's for entry, cloakroom, toilet & bars are huge. I spent most of the night Q'ing for something. It was so bad when i got home i waited outside my bathroom forgetting there was no Q... LOL

I don't know how they could design a club from scratch and yet get it so wrong. True, the place has an amazing soundsystem, but that's about it. The club is utterly soulless and lacks any character whatsoever. The smoking area is a barren strip of tarmac sans seats or heaters, and the bouncers are a joyless bunch who seem to pass the time telling you to not wear glowsticks, wait for your friends, or have any kind of fun.Really simple things seem to have been screwed up. The venue was built from scratch, but there simply aren't enough staircases to get between the floors, leading to the farcical scenario of bouncers trying to maintain order as people push and shove to get onto a different floor. Disabled loos have locks that someone in a wheelchair can't reach. How can such rookie errors be made when building a new club?If it was in central London, I'd be prepared to give it another chance. But it's not. The place is an absolute mission to get to, and even harder (and longer) to get back from. Boats are £5 each way, so you've effectively paid £30 before you're through the door. I can't see why I would ever bother making such an effort to go to such a mediocre place again. The place is trading entirely on hype and the Fabric name, and when this dries up, the club will be in trouble.

Justice set was amazing but sadly Matter was not.

Sounds ace on paper – high tech speakers under the dancefloor, catwalk above the crowd, women only toilets, long bars etc etc….

But in trying to build the ‘perfect’ club it lacks any real personality or sense of fun, like a new build house everything is built to spec and nice and new but completely soulless.

Ridiculous number of staff telling you what you can’t do also kills the atmosphere.

Luckily we were guestlisted so didn’t have to queue but we knew people who were waiting well over 2 hours to get in! Not a good way to start your evening.

Combined with a long trek home – many people in the cloakroom/taxi queue were seriously underwhelmed and certainly felt it was not worth it despite a great line up.

The clubbing equivalent of going to a gig at Wembley arena.

Just want to know if any of you were disposals of The Cross, in particular Type, my fav club or The gallery at Turnmills, which was another great club RIP. If so how does this club compare. And for all those that were arguing about what's the best club, well its simple 'It's the one that you personally enjoy the most' everyone likes different things!!
