I'd have given it 0 if I could. If you're looking for a place where you can actually have a few drinks and have a dance then don't go here. It's one of those places that is more like being at a cattle market. The bouncers are rude and talk to people like they're something they've trodden in and the only way you're going to be treated like a 'customer' is if you flaunt them some flesh and flutter your eyelashes.
Their dress code online isn't clear enough and they will be as picky as they want. Then when you go home and change your offending mates attire they'll only find another reason to try to refuse entry. If your face doesn't fit then they will look for a reason to try to refuse entry be warned. You could be sober (as we were) and still if your image doesn't fit their judgement then don't expect an easy time getting in.
The bars are over crowded. Don't expect to get a drink within half hour of standing there. Again if you're a girl, aim for the guys serving and flaunt a bit of flesh (see what I mean about cattle market).
Once you've got your drink the actual music is alright but you'd have a better night elsewhere. My advice is.. head for Oceana. At least there there's more bars and more music choice.... and a little more respect for being a human being.
Was at Mccluskys recently, and again, where do you start with this?
Bouncers are thugs, fact. They have no care for anyone but themselves, chew gum and virtually spit it in your face, one of them was so rude to a girl in our group, that she wanted to leave before we had gone in. When I piped up, I too got told to **** off.
Drinks are slightly overpriced for there, and it is very very chavy. bar staff seem reluctant to serve even though this is there job, and they do not know what they are doing half of the time.
This was the last time I will go there having been once before, never again. It needs to be shut.
Mccluskys... hmm where do i start. This is most possibly the worst club I have ever been to in my entire history of promoting and DJing on the London club scene.
The bouncers are aggressive, and unreasonably hostile, one even told me to "**** off" as I tried to move past him to go out for a cigarette.
Inside- the floor is carpeted, and sticky, the club is decked out in that tragic Wetherspoons interior trying so hard to be classy but failing miserably.
Inside the club is full of overweight Hollyoaks rejects and stella swigging groups of lads preying on the vomiting skanky girls that congregate outside in the que.
The music is dire, unless you like 50 cent and Akon and the DJ talking between the tracks "Are u ready for the weekend Kingston???!!"
I was, but now I just want to go back to my nice flat in surbiton and get away from the horrors that seem to accumulate inside this small, cramped, low ceiling-ed, sweaty, classless establishment.
I gave this place enough chances, I've been there 5 times in total, to see bands thinking "maybe tonight will be okay" but it never has been.
The only good thing, about this God- awful place is the Thursday night New Slang, where they play actual good music, such as indie electro, the vibe is taken up a notch as thursdays attract the Kingston 'art school Nathan Barley crowd" But even that is better than the usual tacky disgusting people it attracts most other nights of the week.
New Slang, Go back to the Works, then you will have mine and my friends attendance and support again.Take it from someone who has lived in Kingston, DJ's up in the city and has promoted house and electro ngiths for the past 4 years. Avoid it. Unless you actually want to catch an STD.happy clubbing xoxo
