I have been to Merah numerous times and I am surprised at the user reviews on here.
We have never had any issues with entry and the tables. Get there early enough and they are happy to accommodate you at any of the tables they have available. It is expensive but no more than other London clubs.
The music is spot on and the staff have been friendly enough in my experience. I was accused of stealing a bottle of Vodka from a table the last time I was there, but the staff were polite and effective in resolving the situation.
Definitely planning to return soon.
Dreadful club - very overpriced and the whole "celeb" thing that the club thinks that they got is very far fetched - I've seen more celebs around Simon cowell bum. Staff were stuck up. Place was dead until midnight. Julian Bennett needs to keep his hands to himself. Defo wouldn't got their again.
perfect word "Pathetic", the security is ridiculous they pushed one of my friend so badly just bcoz he just walked into the private area. Its the horrible place I have ever visited
I visited this club at the weekend for the first time. It was a friends 21st and we had booked a table for 15 of us. Originally we were told that the table would cost £1000, which was fine until we arrived and they raised the price to £1500! Not only that, but we also after paying that had to pay £20 entry EACH! Even the girls, which usually if you are in before 11pm (which we were) girls go free. They insisted that the reason we had to pay is because we had a table- therfore didn't have to queue for as long! I found it rediculously expensive and I realise that London is an expensive place to go but this wasn't even worth it!
We arrived to a tiny table in the corner, which sat about 6! It was on the dance floor in the way and the drink prices were crazy!
I would not recommend this club to anyone I know and there are much nicer clubs in Mayfair/London to attend that you would have a much better night!
Totally agreed. I went to an exclusive party for Chinese on 10/11/2011 for the first time. Was made waiting outside for 50 mins. Got in the club at 12:45, and found that it was not as packed as other good clubs like Mahiki. I was also wondering why they made people waiting outside for so long when the club was in fact, 80% full.
The security staffs were definitely the worst I have seen in London clubs. I was pushed by one of the security staffs from behind as he wanted to get through. I turned around and told him not to push me. The kind of normal conversation really. He replied that he didn't and asked me not push him. Then I was forced out of the club at 2:30pm with my coat still hanging in the cloak room. I went to the front gate again and tried to reason with the security guards on the door. I was told that I was forced out because of mis-behaviour, and they started making rude jokes at me. Totally rediculous considering that my friends and I have taken 2 VIP tables. A few other fellows (guys and girls) were chased out with similar invalid reasons.
I work in the financial industry and is a frequent night-clubber in central london (Mahiki, Funky Budda, China White, Bond etc). I have to say that I definitely had the worst experience at clubbing last night - being kicked out wiht an invalid reasons.
I thought about writing a complain email. But after reading the recent reviews post by other users, it seems that it's a common practice there.
I agrees with stephW and it was my last time visiting Merah.
just recently went to meerah. had been there 2 years ago and it was OK. but my friend wanted to go again so we all went. myself and 4 girls. we waited in line for about 40 minutes and then were swiftly let in. still don't get why they make us wait so long as if the club was full, because it was still relatively empty at around 1. the music was OK but the place was just dead and tacky. you could easily make out the tables that had promoters on with a few cheap girls who were there for the drinks. this place has no class and is def not a place for myself or my friends.
there are so many clubs in london that are more fun, or more classy or edgy that i really dont get what the vibe is meant to be there. perhaps its just a hangout for promoters and free drinks... whatever, all i know is thats the last time my friends or myself go to merah.
I don't think people understand that with these kind of clubs you are ALWAYS advised to get there at 10pm to avoid disappointment! I'm not a promoter or a frequent club go-er but I know what its like! Merah, China White, Movida they're all the same - all good clubs! I'm mixed race and have gone to all of these clubs with white, asian and black friends and have never been turned down nor have I had any grief from any of the bouncers. If you want to have a good time you have to make the effort to get there early and to look nice too. Considering all guestlists offer free entry and drinks for all women before 11/11.30pm I think it is only fair that we make the effort to put our dancing shoes and glad-rags on!
We start to queue for Merah before 11pm (10.40) , first, a rude welcome from the security guard who was shouting on people like a shepherd on his sheep.. then we arrived at the door at 11.15pm where a woman looked us one by one asking heels and checking the dresses, ( maybe she should have checked herself first...) they wanted to charge us 20 pounds ( we were 10 girls) because it was 11.15pm, we left, and of course one of the promoter was saying " yes we charge and what, anyway you will spend 20 pounds of drinks inside so pay it at the door its the same" wahou merah club Friday 29 October 2011.
just because merah has velvet curtains and loud music it does not mean that it is a elegant upmarket club. it is so fake and horrid. terribly uncool. sad music. dull dull dull. it should close. simply.
Hilarious nightclub!Headed here with a group of friends after a brilliant house party; leaving that party was mistake number one. One of the guys in our party worked as a west end promoter and had organised for our group to be the guest list . This perhaps predictably meant very little, given the fact the the queue for the guest list was still about fifty or sixty people long. But we said- "sure, lets give it a go, see how this pans out".. That was mistake no. 2. After being told lots of rubbish by door staff, they eventually organised for some of us to move to the "sacred" other queue. Shorter but still a wait. Again, sheeplike, we waited until we reached the top of this queue.. Only to be told by a ten year old with a clipboard on a quest for self validation that our names were in fact NOT on the mythical guest list, and of course our group must have fabricated the whole thing in a desperate attempt to be cool enough to get into such a prestigious place. Oh please...we left the queue vowing never to grace that place with our presence again. Okay, so maybe not that hilarious after all. Mistake number three: not believing earlier despite having read all these reviews previously. But consider yourselves fairly warned! Why educated talented beautiful people continue to degrade themselves by going to places like this in London is beyond me.. Perhaps I'm missing something.
I wish I could give this club a 0 rating as well....my cousin went to this club on a night out with 9 friends, 1 boy and 8 girls for her friends 19th birthday they waited for about 45 minutes then when they got to the front of the line they paid but were turned down after they paid because they were black they then transferred her and her friends to another club....I think this is absolutely vile the fact that they think it is acceptable to treat young girls and boys this way....it is illegal for them to take money and then not give the service that they have been offered and to be told that they have to pay a further £20 to get into another club.
I went to Merah on Sat nite and had the best time, my friend booked a table for our mates birthday and they looked after us. I saw some reviews below so was not sure what to expect but they are strict on the door with dresscode but its the weekend u should make an effort!
I just wanna inform all who will be thinking to go to MERAH club that is shit club and there's no point to waist Ur time . Tonight i spend there for 1:30h waiting outside the club and i been turned off right on the front door without a reason. There was a Blondy witch outside the door just look at me and my friend face and announce that we not gonna be entering club, i feel so humiliated, discriminated and i will never ever advice no 1 to go there. Even Gaddafi regime in Libya have some loyalty but in this club nothing left, u fell that they treat u like peace of shit. So think twice if u will decided to go there.
dont know anyone who still goes to Merah. we used to go to the club when it was Crystal and went a few times when it opened as merah. it was ok. classy and fun but nothing exceptional. it had a good image with the top stars that used to go jayz and jls and Rihanna went when it was first open but went to merah a few months ago and will never go again. it is now very boring and the few people there are mainly kids. i asked around and the only celebrity they have had in a long time is katie Price. there are many clubs in London that are so much fun Maddox, Tramps,Boujis, and Chinawhite (ok some nights) .
I really wish I could give this place 0 stars but it doesn't seem to be an option.
Went here on Friday night with my friend who is a regular. Waited in the queue for about 20 mins which isn't too bad except it would have only taken about 10 if the bouncers didn't keep letting people jump the queue. When we got to the front, the host lady took my friend to one side to tell her that I wouldn't be allowed in because they only wanted slim girls. Yes I am a size 18 but I'm a Geordie girl and never go anywhere without being done up to the nines - and I can guarantee you I get my fair share of male attention. Having said that, it's neither here nor there how I look really. I think it's absolutely disgusting that this club is essentially treating women like prostitutes to draw in rich men that will buy them drinks. This is 2011...women can take care of themselves thank you very much. This club certainly lost out on a lot of business from me - did I mention I was a Geordie?! - and has also lost a regular customer in my friend.
Discrimination of ANY kind is unacceptable and I can guarantee that I will NEVER go to this club again!
Went to Merah with a few friends, as we were on a guestlist and stood in a queue for 20 mins that didn't move at all! There were at least 50 people out there and it was ridiculous. Ended up at MAYA down the road which had no queue yet was packed inside with great music and fun people.
Don't go to Merah, its a dive - the people queuing looked younger than me (I've just turned 18!) Go to somewhere like Mahiki, MAYA or Amika - never had a bad time there!
Merah has got to be the tackiest club in mayfair. The fact it is allowed to run parallel to an amazing club like Chinawhite disgusts me. I have only been there once from early on in the night and had to wait 30minutes to be allowed, i usually go at 2.30am to see my friends and its awful! the worst thing about merah is the age of the guests in there. typically on a Saturday night there will be at least 50 14-16year old girls and about 40 boys of the same age. the bouncers don't ask for ID and if they do they don't check the pictures well enough. Most of the girls at my school choose Merah as the club to go to because they don't need ID to get in...these girls are in year 9 and year 10. as a 19 year old i don't feel comfortable clubbing around underage little children. I'm frankly shocked the police haven't picked this up yet and punished the club. If you're looking for a good night in London don't EVER choose Merah. Go Jalouse, Movida, Maddox or China White.
Do not bother going to this club if you are white / English. The bouncers are big black racists, they discriminate and reject people on colour of the skin, if you are foreign you could probably get in wearing nothing. What a joke a ruined night,
Avoid if you don't want to be waiting in a non moving queue for 2 hours!
Me and my friend [both attractive females in early 20s] arrived at 10:00pm as advised to take advantage of the Free entry for girls before half eleven, and we was stood in a non moving queue for 2 HOURS!
Only to be told by the black bouncer who seemed to think he owned the place by constantly walking up and down the queue shouting at people to "get in line" that my friends ID wasnt "sufficent" enough.
By than it was midnight and we got into Cafe de Paris without any problems!
They really shouldnt advertise as opening at ten as they dont let people into about 12!
Never again!
with friends went clubbing to west-end couple of weeks ago. planed to visit two, maybe three clubs that night as we were on a guest-lists. First club was Merah, we arrived around 11.30 there was a que and we had to wait around 10 to 15 min but as we looked hot:) there was no problems to get inside afterall. the club was busy but not packed just enough space to mingle and dance, stylish people , mixed crowd different age different background but everybody seemed enjoying, music wasn't cheesy so we stayed for a drink at the bar. bar staff were really friendly and funny:) drink after drink at the bar then on the dance floor until my night ended there where it started. we had so much fun in Merah that we didn't had to go further. met interesting people as well oh and the laser show was amazing I really didn't expected to see that! in general atmosphere was very uplifting that night. definitely will recommend this club to everyone who plans to go out in central London.
We went to merah on saturday and we had wicked time!!!We were a bit late, large group of people(13) and we had no problem with getting inn.The door staff were very nice and organized. We didnt manage to get a table as the club was busy but still we had amazing night. We were geting drinks from the bar so we got to know the bartenders and they are really cool...thanks a lot guys for making our night:)the music was great, good looking girls and handsome boys-just nice!We definitely gonna come back:)
Was ok a little empty but decided to leave when I was made to wait and pushed back from the toilet because katie price needed to pass! Not the queen, not Rhianna or some hollywood star, bloody Jordan. Thats all fine but some people couldnt care less about the very very minor celebs that littered Merah (ex s club 7 members, very minor "pop stars")however, the problem was when I left. I asked the bouncer to get me a taxi, which he did immediately, but this driver took me past my house, would not stop, and tried to snatch my bag! Luckily as I had to open a moving car door others saw it and the police were there very fast. So note to Merah- do not alienate your guests who don't care that some twat has showed up. Dont overly make a fuss of silly "celebrities" whilst pushing other guests out the way. And do not allow kidnapping robbing unlicensed taxisto be recommended by your bouncers!
went there on a Friday night, got there early que literally did not move until 10:30 by time got to the front it was 12:15 and we were told capacity was full we even had a table and i was not willing to pay for entry when they claim girls are free before 11pm. most pointless night of my life, waited around for so long, thank god for the promoter we were with sent us somewhere else where we did not have to que up for nearly 2hours.
I've seen clubs which have larger ques and have got people in within 30mins.
went there for the 1st time for my 21st 5th March 2011. My friend had sorted out the guest-list through his brother who is a promoter around west-end. We got there for 11.30pm. there was a big que for people who weren't on the guest list but we must of waited 5 Min's max to get in through the guest list que. women on the glist was happy, smiling, very welcoming - no probs. club was pritty busy when we got in. The issue of the night was that they had over booked the tables - which was a piss-take however they offered us some little table near the entrance where i wouldn't want to sit as people walking past you 24/7. they then offered us same size table on the dance floor which was better and another alternative table on the outer ring of the club. we took the one on the dance floor. really good service with the personal waitress and the girls organising the table weren't rude. pritty helpful. the layout is a bit weird as they don't have a main dance floor. its spread out in little patches. but when your drunk you probably don't care where your dancing as i was stood on some table. one or two idiots and few gold-diggas but no issues. music was dance/funky house mixed with rnb. pritty commercial but goos night. expensive like all clubs but your paying for the service.
Merah! Well what can I say? For starters they tell you to arrive early because they open @ 10pm me and my friends got there at 10.30 and wasn't let in untill 12.30 they didn't start letting people in until 12. So I wasn't impressed with that! The music is ok abit year 2000 however on a positive it does have a good vibe of people that are out to enjoy themselves with out any drama : ) overall its ok.
This club is a joke, they tell you to get here early but don't let people in. Been in the queue for 1hour and the queue has not moved at all!!
I went to Merah last Sunday and thought it was going to be packed because they had an afterparty for NE-YO. To my surprise there was probably less than 300 people inside, but what an AMAZING night.First NE-YO turned up with Alexandra Burke, then Trey Songs followed by Chipmunk and Jason Derulo. I felt like I was at the Grammy awards. Pity the stars section was roped off and only people with the gold wristbands could go through, but still got to watch all of them from a distance. I love this club and loved it that it wasn't that full. I was quite happy with staff, the bartenders was very nice.Would recommend it to anyone if you can get in.
I planned to celebrate by birthday in Merah. I was told by the promoter to be there at 10pm earliest as the queues get long after plus ladies get in free at 10.30pm. We got there at 10pm, waited in queue & they wouldn't let anyone in & as soon as it hit 11pm they start letting people in. Its so the ladies pay £20, they are conning people and I also saw so many rudeboys offer the bouncers money and they let them in. Finally we got to the front & the bouncers told us we r not allowed in the club for no reason. This ruined my bday & i will never ever go to that shit place again. Never in my life have i been humiluated that much. Its all a political game in that club, awful. Would not recommend anyone to go there at all.
I went like last October and then again last month and had the funnest time of my life!! was absolutely mental, was packed and amazing drinks.. however I went again last week with a couple of friends, 4 white girls, 3 blacks and 1 Asian.. my friend was a promoter and she tried to get us in and the lady with the guess-list list just looked at us in some weird way and didn't let us in! how weird is that! the staff are generally snobby and horrible but once you're inside, its beyond amazing.. also I saw many people get turned down because what they were wearing was 'too casual', judged based on what jacket you wear!? what if you are wearing something sophisticated instead? gosh.. horrible staff at merah.. but its actually good inside.. so people if you want to go to this club, I suggest wear either macs or blazers..
last time i went to merah was a russian night , like 2 weeks ago,& i"ll tell u ,guys,it was one of the most enjoyable nights out,the music,people,atmosphere- amasing, the service was fantastic, everyone looked happy & had a lot of fun, maybe the only bad thing was waiting in a huge queue, but it was some russian star performing,& too many girls, felt myself like in a harem, but in general i enjoyed a lot
I went to Merah for the first time to celebrate my birthday late december breaking away from my usual clubs (movida and Whisky Mist) and I have to say , never again. It was a bad experience from start to finish and here is why. I made a table booking with Merah at an agreed price, my guests arrived before me and embarrassingly get told at the door there is no booking for me. So after freezing for a half hour, I rushed over only to find that they do have my name but they would now like to charge double for the table. It was 12.30am, my guests were cold so I had no choice but to agree to it and go in. Things got no better inside, after being shown to our table it took 40, yes 40 mins to get served. This was despite telling three different people we were waiting to order drinks and after 20 minutes the manageress coming over to apologise and say someone would be with us shortly and the reason for the delay was that they didn't know I was there. I'm not being funny but how on earth did I manage to sit myself at one of your tables, be shown to it through a booking and still have no one realise I am there with 10 people? What an insult. My night carried on, and after all this I was probably in the worst mood ever on my birthday no less but it was about to get worse. Time came to settle the bill - and guess what, they had the cheek to charge cover for me and my 10 guests on top of all the minimum spend I had agreed to, despite me breaking the spend by 300 pounds or so. I would love to speak to the manager of this establishment about business ethics and service, that was by far the worst treatment I have ever received after 15 or so years going out and I paid for the privilege. Thank you very much Merah
Shit pretentious .... I work with events and my main priority is customer satisfaction and guarantee of a fun happy night out. Merah I felt left out, took important clients there and they were very rude to two of my clients as they were dressesd more casual. Luckily my young good looking rich clients said if their friends couldn't come in, the whole group would leave the club.... As they knew we would spend a lot they let everyone in..... Of course we lost the excitement and decided to leave.... Went Maddox where I know the manager and we had a wicked time. Will never go back to Merah and even worst take clients or friends there
i used to go to Mearh a lot. it was very glamour and elite. i went twice recently, and had a bad experience both times. the place has become messy and old and most of the people there were quite trashy. sorry merah, i have crossed you off my list for good.
Merah is joke! After reading all the negative reviews I spoke directly to Charlotte S who does guest list for the club. I wanted to celebrate my 27th on the 6th Nov and explained we are not a bunch of kids and what do we need to do to have hassle free entry to the club and avoid being treated funny at the door. She said just make sure you meet the dress code and arrive early. So we did, all glammed up. It was meant to be free for girls before 11pm. We arrived at 10pm, there was a queue outside and bouncers kept telling us it will open in 10min (3 times!) Then at 11pm they started letting some people in and obviously charging girls as well cos it's past 11! The guy at the door said 'it's business' and didn't give a damn people were queuing for over an hour! Seeing all this we decided to leave that place for our own respect, went to Embassy instead and had a great night! And also, according to Charlotte, people who write negative reviews - do that to vent their anger because they weren't allowed in as they didn't dress properly or some other reason. I can tell you, it's not the case this time - we wanted a glam night out with our long legged model girls in ysl shoes. So avoid Merah unless you have patience and want to risk to be treated like rubbish for the service you're paying for! ;)
I went for my birthday on the 2nd of October, and had the worst night of my life! We had a table in the club and were planning to spend alot of money. At 11.30 all the power shut down and we were left sitting in darkness with no music and no information on what was going on. We were then told half an hour later that due to a power cut we all to get the hell out. No apology was given and we not offered any other options. I had alot of friends waiting outside all the bouncers were so rude and all the boys were not refunded there £20 door charge! I go out in london all the time and must say that I will never go to Merah again. The lack of service was horrid and the staff have no idea on how to run a westend club. Worst night ever! Please do not waste your time or money to go somewhere which has no managment skills and no graces.
3 of us went for my birthday yesterday. The door manager asked what guestlist we were on, we told her. She looked us up and down and said, "to my discretion I am not letting you in", then stormed off!! We thought she was joking at first! The manager, bouncers and promoters were all cool to let us in, except for her. I definitely won't be going back there anytime soon!!
club was amazing but only if you don't slip on the slipper floor and cut your hand or get any injury. i cut my hand an no one helped even when there were 4 bouncers next to me. and when they said go to cloak room for first aid they told me to get out. went outside and no one who worked there helped nor thought to call an ambulance, and hand to pay for my own cab to the hospital.
i got 6 stitches and the club didn't help me one bit, looking to have a word with the manager come Wednesday. please ensure you stay safe in there because they don't seem to care about peoples health, only there wallet.
the only thing they gave me where tissues and get out sign.
Went on Friday for the first time with a group of friends and we had an amazing time. Jls were also there - they're so hot!
Terrible club, Worst I've ever been to in a long time.
Not only was the music dire the atmosphere was so uptight and dull I wanted to fall asleep.
I don't understand what people mean by the "elite" There is nothing elite about anyone who goes there, They're all completely boring people who live boring lives trying to look pretty which isn't hard.
It is nice not to have drunken idiots all around you but its also nice to have people with a little spark of life and not the worlds most stuck-up, dry and lifeless people.
The design is terrible, its ugly and the bar is in a really bad place. The music is generic and dull. This isn't a good club so avoid it at all costs unless you like idea of being surrounded by people who are more boring to talk to than a brick wall.
The only one good thing was the high class drugs you can buy quite freely there, The cocaine was flowing and everyone was sniffing it up like gold dust.
In london for the first time.
The girl with a clip board was really rude to me. But eventually i got in and had fun.
Will probably go back.
