The ViewLondon Review
Mishmash is without doubt another jewel in the crown of Clapham’s burgeoning bar scene. The VenueLoyal to the styles of its sister bars, Alchemist, Nectar and Play, Mishmash is a mecca for 70s' chic, with comfortable leather sofas and retro wallpaper in gold, red and purple hues. The venue itself consists of a spacious room with large windows, a bar, DJ booth and a few tables out on the pavement.
The AtmosphereOld movies projected onto the walls lend Mish Mash an arty vibe but the overall atmosphere is light-hearted and fun. A young, well dressed crowd drink and dance into the wee hours and even the security staff are polite and helpful.
Music-wise the DJ spins an eclectic mix of funk and party tunes to a receptive crowd. Don’t expect anything cutting edge, but do expect to dance.
The FoodThe menu is predominantly carbohydrate based, Italian finger food, perfect for a quick bite or shared as bar snacks. The staff are extremely friendly, the service proficient and the prices pretty reasonable.
The DrinkTruly delicious and unusual cocktails created by the same mixologist as those in Alchemist are expertly made and well presented. A generous Happy Hour, with prices that would have been considered modest even ten years ago, is a good opportunity to sample some of the more unusual offerings, such as the Japanese selection, and is excellent value for money.
The Last WordMishmash is an excellent place for a night out, if you want to avoid the prices and crowds of the West End without sacrificing style.
