The London,Sugar and Slavery exhibition was very interesting. It laid down the facts of what was happening at the time, without going into the blood and gore behind the events. The even handed approach of showing how slavery came to started, who made the money out of it,through the freedom bill, and up until today with statements of how racism effects people today.
As a black man it hit home right at the beginning when the host was talking about the how we were named and mine came out as how one to further disenfranchise my namesakes from their origins.
I must admit it left me with a thirst for information. More is known about what happened in America and the West Indies than London. A need to know how were black people treated as slaves in London and when the freedom bill was passed, is missing (the blood and the gore).
It give an insight of London life at the time and that was good. Personally I will use this exhibition as a start of the life of a black man in London. Thank you Museum of London Docklands.
